Everybody who read the book before the movie came out: *it wasn’t scary enough...*
Everybody who watched the rip-off: never again.
How can i find it on the internet
I know right. The book terrified me when I was a teen, I loved it!
Yep, that's why I never saw the movie; I had read the book first and thought it looked too tame.
Also, fuck the screenwriters for adding a random boy character because *Heaven Forbid* boys have to empathize with a female protagonist!
I wish the film was scarier. They also changed some scenes from the book, which I didn't really like, like the part where Coraline goes into the cellar and finds her puffy, deformed Other Father down there.

Fun fact coraline's name was originally going to be Caroline, but neil gaiman made a Typo and he liked it better so he changed her name. Also, the book wasn't written to teach kids a lesson. His daughter liked scary stories, and they were renting the pink palace at the time so neil gaiman made his character(caroline/coraline) live there so his daughter could map out coralines surroundings. Several years later his other daughter suggested publishing the book. And the rest is history.
Interesting :o
In the book doesn't the old man call her Caroline?
@Miss Misery Yeah they mispronounce Coral nine way to much
Noice :)
Wait i just noticed... I thought that WAS the name damn..
Hey, Coraline kinda sounds like Caroline... *let’s make a movie about that.*

Sometimes I really feel that's what these people think xD

Can someone tell me what that link above me is?
LMAO YEAH!
But it gets worse since Coraline's book was going to be called Caroline, but the author misspeled it when he was writing the book for his smallest daughter. In the end he tought it was way more interesting as Coraline.

@@williek08472 no, that was when people remembered the title differently. This is completely different.
as a Portuguese person watching this, i feel flattered that spark thinks in spain they speak portuguese, you're correct though, "Brujerias" (its pronounced Brurrériass) does mean witchcraft, but its castellano (casstellhano- pronounced) the so called "spanish" hope it helped, great video!!

Hey Saber! Anxela's bomb-ass website is actually in Portuguese, not Spanish. But hit me up if you ever need help with Spanish translations!
EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that the language on Anxela's bomb-ass website is Galician, not Portuguese as I thought. The only reason I thought it was Portuguese is that, being a native speaker myself, it was clear to me that it was not Spanish, and shared a lot of words with Portuguese. Today I learned that Galician is native to Galicia in northwestern Spain, and though it can be understood by Portuguese speakers, it uses Spanish spelling conventions, making it a completely different language!
Of ALL people, Charriii is here? You are the last person i thought i would find in one of saber's vids.
As far as I’ve been able to read in Saber’s video it IS actually spanish. Unless he showed another website I’m unaware of, that does not seem like Portuguese.
@@goneridingbebacknever
Same, i couldnt see all of the text (its very tiny) but yeah its all spanish, atleast what i read.
@@goneridingbebacknever it is Portuguese, both languages are incredibly similar, to the point that you can almost understand both by only knowing one. The thing is that both are similar so you can understand the context but not enough that you can make an accurate translation word by word.
I read the text and actually, it is in Galician (One of the minority languages of Spain), it is a mid-way between Spanish and Portuguese, sorta
what I love most about this movie is that when the VA does other signings people always jestfully dunk on her for this film and she’s like “yeah I deserve this”
I thought that nothing could scare me more than the Beldam/Other Mother in the movie (I'd say even the book, but in the book she sounded honestly hilarius as fuck everytime they pointed out her expressionless-stare, don't know if this is only in the italian translation), then I found that ripoff and I kid you not, I was ready to go and call the Beldan "mom" after some of those creepy models (especially that weasel-thing).
At least Coraline was even funny (like Wyborn's name joking about the fact that he was "born" just in the movie to give her someone to talk to while in the book he's not there) and not only creepy.
13:54 - Just put Coraline there and you have a random crossover that I'd watch just for fun.
This movie is the reason why Coraline doesn't like to be called Caroline.

@MustyYew LOL SO TRUE
Fun Fact: It is well known that Coraline began as a mistake. When writing his novel of the same name, Neil Gaiman had originally intended to name his young protagonist “Caroline,” but mistyped it. Liking the sound of it, the way it sounded close-but-not-quite to the intended, Gaiman decided to rechristen the character. It’s was a smart move, not only because it makes the title stand out, but because of the way it reflects Coraline’s journey through a world that’s familiar but slightly off.
Edit: Where the hfil did all these likes come from?!?
Another tale of making use of a small error.
I didn’t know that, that’s interesting.
Gayman
Fun fact number 2: the director showed it to his daughter to see if kids would get scared, and she said she wasn’t scared, so it go the green light. Later though, she admitted that it had scared the living shit out of her, but she didn’t want to disappoint so she said it was good.
As Saberspark mentioned, there’s actually a small joke in the film, where the characters in the home (namely The Great Bobinsky), who calls her “Caroline.”

Coraline is a rare and well-done form of children's horror and man do I LOVE children's horror because you need so much more creativity to make a pg rated movie scary vs an R rated movie, which is basically just add all the gore and you're good
I feel like that can be said for almost all genres. Children's comedy has to be well thought out and not the same sex joke over and over again. Children's mystery can't have the hot adults making out in between every scene but is able to focus on the story. Even Children's fantasy is better in my opinion because it's well thought out worlds that have deep plots and not Game of Thrones sex appeal. Of course I'm talking about the good examples because there's a fair amount of Children's garbage

This movie never actually wanted to be a ripoff of Coraline. The name of the movie was Brujerias, and the protagonist is named Malva. Just in the english translation " Caroline " is a thing.
The artstyle is a bad adaptation of a typical european Children's book, it doesn't come close to Laika designs.
I don't think this movie is a ripoff, is a bad movie indeed but pretty far from a coraline ripoff
I've been to a presentation someone from Laika put on, and it was really interesting to see the process that went on to make Coraline. At least for Coraline's face, it was two parts aside from her eyes. If I remember correctly, each piece was 3D printed, hand sanded, and each freckle hand painted. Then they used cgi to hide the seam between the pieces.

The movie is still childish and overall bad, but it wasn't intended to be a ripoff. I don't know why this marketing shit happens so much, but it's very disrespectful, even if the movie isn't really that good
I'm guessing because there's a character that just sort if happened to look similar or had some sort of similar location, background, etc. And it's a lot less effort to ride on someone's coattails than to market the film on its own merits to an audience that has an entirely different cultural experiences and views on things.

Mom I want coraline!
Mom: we have coraline at home
The Coraline at home:
Don't trust a grandma who gives you one of her "remedies" from her van.
Coraline: Keeping you up at night with sheer terror and fear while having a great story and great visuals
Caroline: Keeping you up at night with sheer disappointment and confusion
Edit: Jesus how did I get this many likes?
And bad animation and visuals (im talking about “caroline” btw)
Yes
Caroline is the one that keeps me up at night with sheer terror, & fear... while also making me angry as all heck knows.
bruh, they couldn't even change the name to idk carol? they thought switching o and a would keep them undercover-
Lol
To be honest this doesn’t really look like a rip off of Coraline but instead a different movie that just made a poster that ripped off the look of the Coraline movie poster. That’s about as close the similarities I see between these two movies.
Same thing happened with an Indian movie called “Kiara the Brave”.
It was originally called something else (I think Super K?) and the title character Kiara has little presence in the movie, but she is a princess with red hair and a green dress, and it came out around the same time as Pixar’s Brave, so she was used in the advertising in some places.
Lewtoons did a video on it
I AGREE!
@@sirGuy1995 LMAO
18:05 IM THE TRASH MAN, I COME OUT, I THROW TRASH ALL OF TH- ALL OVER THE *movie*
also Saber trying to say Brujeras is the cutest thing ever lmao. Lives in my head rent free
My niece loves this movie so much, that she jumps in excitement while saying “Coraline Jones!” It is real shame that she saw the rip off version while my mom was taking care of her while my niece’s mom was working. My niece kept saying “That’s not Coraline”, she didn’t throw a fit but even she knew that was rip off
Jorge Cruz 😂
When I had my Netflix app, I would watch Coroline all the time
That kid is a girl of culture 😔👌🏼✨
@@moved.6963 Bro my niece did too
Listening you trying to pronounce “brujerías” was quite interesting, and yeah, it basically means witchcrafts in Spanish.
I was just about to comment that
Yup 💀
As a person who's native language is spanish, I just can't stop laughing at this, he didn't even get close to the actual pronunciation jajajajasjsjshsjjsj
Yes I'm from mexico btw
@@Otterwithadarkside Jajajajajajajaj Lo que dije en español estaría escrito "Bruferrirras"
6:26 So, not only are they ripping off Coraline, but they’re also (kinda) ripping off my show BEN 10?!
the "dw i am already tracking your veichle down" thing literally sent me. wth man.
The book "coraline" was even more terrifying then the movie. Should definitely check it out
i wish more people would. i was actually mad at how much they watered down the story in the film, i'm assuming to make it more widely family-friendly when the original was more of a preteen-teen kind of story. not a challenging read but content-wise really terrifying. i like the movie for what it is, and i hate to be THAT guy, but compared to the book i dislike how much LESS creepy the movie is.
When I heard that it was gonna be stop-motion, I was so excited! I was like *this is the perfect medium for this story* and then I found out a lot of the same people had worked with Tim Burton and I was like *this is going to be AMAZING* but then I watched the movie and it was so... silly. It still had *some* horror elements, but... it could’ve been so much more. It should’ve been.
@@katehucks774 silly, that movie scared me as a kid.
@Kane The Critic obviously
Aw yeah i love how (from what i heard) in the book they imply that the Beldam, although she has some control over this other world, the tunnel itself is like an entity and you wonder what exactly makes her so terrified of not having more eyes
