    ALL of your videos are superb!
    Never even thought to practice anchoring! Just found you yesterday, after searching for info/reviews of the Enigma Kayaks Fishing Pro 12, my first ever kayak, which, after watching your video, I went out bought!!!
    Your content, tutorials, and reviews are truly first-rate, I have already leant so much valuable info, thank you for sharing.
    I'll be tootling around West Cornwall, Fal, Helford, etc, whilst I find my kayaking feet, so, if you're ever going out, and fancy some company...... 😁

    I prefer this simpler system rather than your video with the quick release and buoy… I guess if you need to release quickly you can uncleat the dive reel line, bring back the trolley carabiner and unclip the reel line. Maybe it will take a few more seconds compared to your quick release, but still… in a real emergency, cut it all, I agree with you…

    Hi everything is great and I like the easy steps too set up anchor trolley, I was wondering if the trolley system be able too handle 13lb. Of anchor?

    • @CornishKayakAngler
      @CornishKayakAngler  2 года назад +2

      Yeah it will handle a fairly heavy anchor but you may not want to haul the an anchor of 13lb off the trolley itself. The trolley is more just a guide for the anchor line to run off the bow or stern and you can haul lighter weight anchors with it cleared off. When hauling the anchor with the trolley locked off at bow or stern then there will be pressure on the fittings. I haul a 3kg anchor fine with the anchor trolley set up on my kayak. Heavier set ups will take quite a bit more effort and may be best hand hauled with the trolley line running free rather than all the pressure being on the fittings.

      @@CornishKayakAngler thank you very much for the reply and info, I will just get a lighter anchor, and have the 13lb for back up, maybe 9 lb. Once again you do great videos And explain things very will with expert knowledge 👍👍👍, I also rigged the quick release system that you explain and it will be a life saver.

    Hi, Thanks for all the informative videos you make. They have helped me greatly. My question isn't anchor related, but you seem like a good guy to ask! Can you reccomend a good, stable fishing kayak that is under £1000? (O'r there abouts) Something that can cope with relatively rough conditions ideally. I have seen some that are marketed as being really stable, but are only 29" wide. Is width all that matters when it comes to stability, o'r is it partially down to hull shape?
    Thanks again,
    Mike.

      Hi Mike, thanks for the comment. Hull shape plays a big part in stability, wide flat hulls offer lots of primary stability (this is what most people consider as stability when saying they want a stable craft). Hulls with rounder profiles offer good secondary stability which helps the hull remain stable in rougher conditions - even narrow hulls can have great secondary stability e.g Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro and RTM Tempo. As a good compromise between primary and secondary look for hulls with a tri-form shape - this is a central keel bulge with flatter edges to the under hull and soft chines (edge leading from under hull to side of kayak). Good models to go for are Viking Profish Reload, Viking Profish 400, Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 and Trident 13. All great for coastal fishing and will handle choppy waters and swell. Hope this helps!

    Hi Liam
    So I have the exact anchor system that I bought from cornwall canoes. I'm having issues with evert time I retrieve my anchor the anchor line seems to twist real bad, I always allow the line to go back in the water as I retrieve it. Any info on how I can stop this?
    Cheers

    • @CornishKayakAngler
      @CornishKayakAngler  Год назад +1

      If you have a folding grapnel anchor, I expect the anchor is spinning like a propellor on the retrieve causing the line twist. Might be worth incorporating a strong stainless steel ball bearing swivel (type you’d buy for big shark fishing - AFW make them) down near the anchor to help alleviate it. Usually I hand haul the anchor and throw the line over the other side of the kayak. Once the anchor is at the kayak I unlock the line from the chain (via a karabiner for easy unclipping), then I throw the karabiner away from the kayak and begin to wind in the slack. This again gives the line chance to untwist before you reconnect an anchor. Worth a go anyway. Hope this helps!

      @CornishKayakAngler hi mate, thanks for the reply.
      Yeah I went ahead and a swivel as I thought that may be the issue. But I don't unclip the carabiner when I throw my line over the other side so I guess that's the issue

    Hey Liam, would you kindly recommend a brand or make of diver’s reel.....am in Sydney Australia and am getting confused with online options and, as we are in lockdown currently, I can’t visit a dive shop to inspect nor get local advice. I don’t use an anchoring system much as I mainly fish in enclosed waters or estuary situations, but when I do I would like a safe quick release option. 😀 Carol

      Hi Carol, the brand of reel shown in the video is Osprey - I’m not sure if they are available in Australia or not? What brands / models have you seen? Let me know and I can always take a look 😀

      @@CornishKayakAngler Thanks for replying. I’ve found the Ocean Pro brand that seems to be available in Oz. It’s at the upper end of what I’d prefer to pay at $99 Aus. ( don’t anchor up often......am on the move mostly) The Ocean Pro Wreck Reel might do the job .....I’ve also noticed some “finger reels” but would prefer a handle to wind in. And on eBay there are a few brands such TBest - Scuba Diving Tech Spool Reel with A Thumb Stopper, Scuba Diving Multi Purpose Dive Reel(Two Sizes Ropes)that’s at $48 Aus. Problue 290ft (87m) Dive Reel Orange with clip is available at $45.Others are also available online less than $50, but don’t seem to have a brand name....so perhaps a bit Suss? Any helpful hints would be welcome.

    Do you like your anchor trolley on the left side or right side of your kayak

    • @CornishKayakAngler
      @CornishKayakAngler  2 года назад

      I have mine on the left hand side but only because on my Revolution 16 kayak the paddle holder is on the right hand side only, so the anchor trolley had to go in the left so that it wouldn’t interfere. I’ve had it on the right hand side on other kayaks, it really doesn’t matter and you just adapt to use it however
