    Hi! I used trifold pop rivets to install handles on my kayak. The first handle went perfectly. When I installed the second handle, the rivet gun didn't break off the rivets. I tried to snap them manually, but they just bent. Then I tried to cut them, and now I'm stuck with sharp little numbs. Help! How do I remove them to start over?

    • @CornishKayakAngler
      @CornishKayakAngler 28 дней назад

      Oh no! Rivets can be a pain sometimes if they don’t break where they should. Chances are the rivet has compressed fully but just snapped up the stem rather than at the base of the stem. I have had this happen occasionally and find it’s best to use a hacksaw to cut the stem level. If you have snipped them off then use a file to smooth off the sharp nub that’s left. Failing that, get a sharp drill bit the same diameter as the hole for the rivet (usually 5mm) and drill out the rivet until it breaks up. If you find the rivet starts spinning as you drill into it, get some pliers to grip the head as you drill into it. Once the rivet has been drilled through and disappeared, then you can start again. Hope this helps!

      @CornishKayakAngler 2 месяца назад

      In what way is it worthless? This very connector is still going strong several years later as part of a battery box (battery gets disconnected from these connectors regularly for charging). A drop of solder will certainly make for a stronger connection at the terminal though, although the crimp seems to be holding fine for me at the moment.

    It’s always a good day when there is a new video on your awesome channel! Yay! Thanks for another really informative video. I still need to get a Bixpy setup for my Hobie Revo 13. It gets tricky in these parts (in the US in Maine) as I would need to get my kayak registered like a motorized boat if I want to affix a Bixpy. Seems worth it though, even if I will only be using it every once in a while.

    • @CornishKayakAngler
      @CornishKayakAngler 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the comment! We don’t have the registering issue here in the UK thankfully. Would you mount the Bixpy off the rudder, or go for the ThruHull Pedal Drive Adaptor if you get one for your Revo 13?

    • @houseofvelma5
      @houseofvelma5 Месяц назад

      @@CornishKayakAngler, I definitely think I will go with the ThruHull adaptor. I recall that it seemed to behave really well on your Revo 16, so I am hopeful that it will be a good addition to my 13. It will be nice to have a backup option when I end up going way too far on the way out and my legs decide they really need a rest….😂. Thanks again! Mac

      You can get the bearings separately from a Hobie dealer (they may have to order them in), although make sure the bearing housing is not worn and causing the bearings to wear away. If the housing is worn then it’s best to get a whole new spine assembly (which includes a full set of bearings)

    • @CornishKayakAngler
      @CornishKayakAngler 3 месяца назад

      Yeah it would be quite obvious when using the fish finder in the water. There would be lots of interference on the screen. Micro air bubbles aren’t too much of a concern, but you wouldn’t want a big patch of air sat beneath the transducer. In practice it’s rare to introduce a big air bubble as long as you aren’t rushing the job of applying the sealant/adhesive.
