I am 28, and since last year it has been my signature scent. I love the classy side of it, its sharpness and softness at the samde time, and how people can smell it on me whilst it doesn't get too strong for my nose, smelling in waves during the day. A great office scent also.
Oh my goodness. I am so glad that you stated Gris Dior is more on the gothic side. This is exactly how I felt when I wore it the first time. I envisioned a vampire on a dark rainy night wearing it😁. Some people say it is fresh. I don’t smell anything fresh in the fragrance. I love Chypre perfumes, so Gris Dior is a favorite alongside Miss Dior Originale.
I love Gris Dior - it’s my scent of the day today. When I wore it last week, a young guy told me I smelled amazing, and wanted to know what it was. I always seem to get complements when I wear this 🤗
OMG I agree. This fits the vibe of Jenna Ortega. The two celebrities beside her are Maya Hawke and Joseph Quinn who are part of the Stranger Things cast (also a dark series).
Everything old is new again! I definitely see the younger generation “discovering” classic chypres, especially those like Gris Dior and POAL that have a modern edge. The cool kids want in on the sophistication and class!
I know while it’s the same chypre family but it strongly reminds me of Diptyque Eau Capitale minus the strong bergamot of Eau Capitale. I know everyone experience perfume differently, but the dry downs are almost identical and since the the short lived “Gris” effect only lasts 10-20 minutes. I am more leaning to wear it. Matière Première Radical Rose is my current Queen of Chypre, though. Great analysis, Sebastian!
It’s so funny you say that as I wear Gris and have just bought Eau Capitale. The latter is definitely bolder and much longer lasting. I like having both as twists on a chypre to wear at different times. Now all that’s left is I need to graduate to POAL 😊
Gris dior is one of my favourites together with oud ishbahan and tobacolor. Unfortunately they increased prices ,again, from 240 to 265 euro for the 125ml
Hi, I just bought a Gris Dior 250ml for 150€! Sometimes people receive parfums and they didn't like it at first impression and they sell it! But I've got a good deal! 😬😬😬
I've tried Gris Dior several times. While I find it pleasant enough, it hasn't as yet called my name to buy it. Now, Portrait of a Lady was something else, that was love at first sniff. From the Dior PRIVÉE Collection I'd say my favourite is Patchouli Impérial. Such a powerhouse this one.
Would you consider doing a summer cheapies video focused on unisex/women’s fragrances? I love your taste in fragrance and I got Joop Le Bain on your recommendation (it’s awesome!) but I’m feeling floral and tropical vibes this summer and my wallet is feeling light…
I liked the fragrance before the hype. I learned about it from Robert Marawa, one of the most well-known sportscasters in South Africa, when he visited our Durban studios. I now possess the bottle.💫
Yes! Big fan! Right now, if I could only keep 3 perfumes from my 200 bottles collection, Gris Dior would be in. Don’t ask me what would be the other two, I can’t decide! 😆
I have from this collection Dior Diorissima which is a fantastic frag, even if it is considered a female parfum i wear it regularly. Nice review Sebastian.
7:56 I feel like the contradiction makes it even more appealing. It’s like in interior design when you mix styles. If done right it’s more beautiful than if you decorated using one style. Opposites attract
Hi Sebastian, haven’t seen these ads but I believe once upon a time chypres were modern and bold. It’s great if trends are changing. Chypres are so different now with the reformulations anyway. Great if trends got away from the sweet stuff young people are wearing generally. Hooray if these modern chypres are up and coming and promoted with mod faces and music. Thanks so much for yyourr contributions.
@9:00 Two of the others are Maya Hawke and Joseph Quinn, both on Stranger Things, also quite a dark series, particularly for younger audiences. So I'm thinking Dior's marketing department might be onto something, might have done some study and found some correlation between people liking these actors' characters, and a dark classic smelling fragrance like this one. Strong enough that they decided to go for it even with a costly ad campaign like this one.
GD has been one of my signature scents for about 3 yrs or so and I paused too re the recent advertising campaign. I enjoy it but find it super interesting that Dior is focussing on GD
Actually, Chris at The Perfume Nest talks about this often, as she loves patchouli. Really Chris and Sebastian are the only perfume channels I follow. Would love a collab!! 💗
I have a decant and I can't get into it. Maybe it does smell a little dated to me although I know it's very current and I want to love it. It sounds lovely and I truly thought I'd enjoy it. Not yet but maybe in time. Great review.
I think Gris Dior is a good fragrance for younger people as well. To me it is a modern “vintage” smell, and I like that a lot. I’m in my end 20’s and after smelling it once in a dior boutique in French I immediately reached out for it when I was back in Amsterdam. To me it smells so sparkling fresh and bright in the opening, while I think it leans a little bit more to the feminine side it will suit men as wel (like me) and it is totally unisex. Now I wear it as a mood uplifting fragrance. And since I am wearing it, 3 male friends bought it as wel because they liked it so much on me. So, I can see why Dior advertise with younger people. However, I think the influencers/celebrities take part in the commercial just for the money like most of them do, but that is another discussion topic i guess. Gris Dior is my #1 Dior privé fragrance (during the winterseason vanille diorama is my #1).
Hi Sebastian, my name’s Chris, and I watch your videos daily! Highly appreciated informative and just all around great! You’ve introduced me to so many fragrance houses. I’m forever grateful and thankful. This is my second time….
Yana talks about it on The Scented. I ordered a small decant of it from her. It is incredibly elegant and beautiful. The only issue for me is I don’t have a Royal Ball to wear it to. Lol. To me it is red carpet material. So so stunning and formal. For sure a man in designer tuxedo could wear it too. ❤❤❤
Montaigne is Avenue Montaigne where Dior was first established. I think it's still the headquarters today. It's named after the philosopher. The gris Dior = Dior Gray is the same color as Montaigne Gray = Trianon Gray that he liked so much. To me it looks different from the colour of the perfume (but it's still a blue-ish gray)
I really enjoy Gris Dior but I am glad I only purchased the 40 ml bottle because I have received six 7 1/2 ml travel size bottles of Gris Dior at checkout as freebies or with Dior Beauty promo codes….since Christmas with 4 purchases of various beauty and frag items. It seems Gris Dior has been offered at checkout as a freebie more than any other fragrance.
On me it lasted on my skin more than a day even after a lot of washing, I was surprised! I am definitely going to get it if I don’t like the new release that they seem never going to release any.
Thanks for the new video! Never tried gris, will do it. Sebastian, I've never seen you've told about the Mona di Orio brand a lot. Do you like it or plan to review the brand? Such an awesome niche, classic brand
Hello Sebastian, I am a fan of your work. I would like to know if you are able to share recommendations for fresh, fruity fragrances without floral notes. Preferably effervescent ones or those that represent fresh fruit in their best (not synthetic) form. Also, it would be great if you gave us recommendations for cacao juice fragrances. Thank you.
This is why I love you and your channel. I was thinking Portrait of a Lady when I first smelled gris Dior. Chris recommended this one and it doesn’t last on me, and oak moss reads masculine on me. it’s ok but not a love for me. ❤
Montaigne is an 18th c French writer and philosopher and also the name of a famous shopping street in Paris where one of the main Dior boutiques is located. Mountain is montagne.
I found this is an interesting smell as well, and the longevity is eternal on me. But i’m not sure what others may think. Still, i wear it as much as i want, because i believe perfume is personal. 😂
I’m young and it’s been my favorite since 2019, and will be my favorite for a long long time,it’s a classic and unique which makes it appealing to people who want to standout whilst being minimalist still, and `minimalist’ is a big deal to this generation.I also think they changed it up a bit, this purple looking juice isn’t the same as the first I got which was clear, also noticed it has less oak moss and more rose but I love it still.I think young people are gravitating towards the uniqueness and versatility of this as well.
Liked the video Sebastian, very informative. On a side note can you do a current top 10 or 15 Patchouli fragrances I have been exploring this scent lately, I bought Obvios Un Patchouli and Molecule 04 + Patch, also I have TF Patchouli Absolu & Javoy Psychedelic. I ordered a sample of Patchouli Magnetik from ZGO and sadly it leaked first time ever. Been looking at Patchouly Profumum Roma. Cheers Brutha 😎
i love gris dior ! i find it interesting because it’s actually a very safe solemn & overall pleasant scent - nothing exciting but it is intriguing in a quiet way. it could also be popular due to its inoffensive office friendliness, day to night versatility, & light but not juvenile expression. there’s a particular warmth to it that grounds the scent giving it a sophisticated & mature leaning vibe. i find it very refined & elegant, as suited to cosy woollen winter wear as to light summer linen shirts. the others in the privé line are less exciting to me. i know that i liked lucky when i tried it a while back during its launch but it’s not as mysterious as gris dior (& the name isn’t a draw either). i wasn’t aware of the campaign with jenny o. but to be very honest i don’t know her either 😅 i’ve no tv or netflix & ads could also be different depending on the country we’re based in.
there was a pop-up in LA for Gris Dior that was very well done. the perfume educators were incredibly helpful to speak to as well. i wish this scent had been an immediate love because the case it was sold in for the event was beautiful. it wasn’t sweet enough for me the eventual dry down was surprisingly soft. i’m grateful the pop-up introduced me to the privee line which i really enjoyed so i’m happy to start exploring them. Tobacolor is my favorite. 😊
I love Gris Dior! The current marketing is meh, but maybe it will get a new group of individuals loving perfume. Prices on everything these days are crazy.
I have a small 40 ml bottle of Gris Dior but it came in a large leopard box. I think those young people in the ad campaign were there for the money. I presume that Dior is trying to reap in some younger people who probably never heard of Dior.
The story about gris montaigne is about the flagship dior boutique situated at avenue montaigne. The boutique is in a very iconic warm grey which became very dioresque. I'm assuming the montaigne family did not like dior using their name for a perfume
House of Dior states that the name was changed for the 70th anniversary of the house. They've never taken the Montaigne name off their bags or other so named products. So if there are remnants of the family from whom the street is named are likely cashing in, not opting out 😆
Continued from below: watching this video, and I meant to tell you before that I have this one from Dior and the first time I smelled it on another person, she was an early 20-ish, very chic and stylish young woman go a date at a really nice restaurant in Downtown Detroit. Apparently the youngsters enjoy this one as well 😅
I feel Dior is really pushing Gris Dior these days, at least here in Europe....loads of ads, young celebrities in marketing videos...I wonder why they're highlighting it all of a sudden.,,
I happen to experience Feve Deliciuse being a monster silage perfume 😍 also Jasmin des anges lasts ages on me. Gros Dior is a like and not love for me. I understand and admire its unique quality and blending, but I prefer this scent on someome else. Must be my skin chemistry messing with it a bit too much 😉😉
@@ThePerfumeGuy yes, because as Vincent explained Montagne and Montaigne are two different words. The street is named after philosopher Michel de Montaigne, 16th century philosopher. Avenue Montaigne is highly symbolic of French chic. This is where you will find all luxury brands and Plaza Athénée hotel for instance.
Dior just had to stick with only Jenna Ortega. She wears this fragrance as her signature scent and is very compasionate about the fragrance. It fits her perfectly indeed.
Roses in perfume can have so many different scent profiles. The kind of rose I don't like are the ones that have a strong body odor smell to them that some associate with sex. Combine this with patchouli or oud and this BO smell, to my nose, is amplified even more and it always reminds me of fragrances my grandmother wore in the 1960's while she was in her 60's and came to live with us from Cuba.
I was on a trip to Switzerland this winter, at the Dior boutique in Geneva, the sales associate told me that Gris Dior is by far the bestselling fragnance of the príve line. Maybe Dior is targeting Gen Z, cause it shows that this generation tends to spend more money on luxury items than the previous generations.
I sold my old bottle of Gris Dior one month ago, because I was not wearing it at all and didn't like it that much. Now ad champaign and hype made me to try it again, and I fell in love with it. Now I need a bottle, but Dior rose prices. F***
Montaigne is the name of the street of a Dior Boutique, avenue Montaigne, not Mountain that mean Montagne. Really enjoy the Dior Privé collection, i have 9 of them
Maybe it's a good thing that younger audiences are exposed to more complex fragrances than just the safe, non offensive, boring freshies 🤷♂ even if they do it for the money , imagine Johnny Depp as the image of Black Afgano... suddenly niche is in vogue! I'm not ready to get into the Privee Collection, too expensive, I don't want to go into that rabbit hole. Thanks for the video Sebastian!!!
Gris Dior is elegant. The scent reminds me of a stack of freshly printed crisp dollar bills/paper money. It’s a scent that I associate with people that are old money; effortlessly classy, refined and elegant. The new ad campaign is odd. It’s not a new money scent in that it’s not flashy, rebellious, throwing money around and looking for the paparazzi to snap them.
@@ThePerfumeGuy perfume is quite subjective. Isn’t it ? I love the smell of Oud Ispahan but the only time I wore it, I couldn’t even enjoy my dinner. All I could smell was the perfume. Even made me mildly sick 😔I still have the bottle but only smell it and never put it on. I got la colle noire afterwards (way more rose and a hint of Oud) and that one is bearable…
Yes I believe they stopped producing the 450. But I have a strange feeling they might bring it back. Might be due to covid I believe and the limitations on glass and production etc.
dear Sebastian. I am looking for some dupe or perfume similar to Cruise Collection Escale Aux Marquises by Dior. It is sadly discontinued and I haven't found anything similar since. Any suggestions from your side? I trust your nose and hope you'll be able to recommend some great scents in place of this amazing (in my humble opinion) perfume. Thanks in advance!
I’ve tired Gris many times. I have an almost full bottle of Gris Montaigne. I’ll smell the cap every now and then… I never got much out if it honestly. And I am extremely surprised by the advertising (and celebrity endorsement) behind this fragrance lately! 🤷🏼♂️

Allsaints perfumes, no one seems to be talking about them
Portain of lady is the worst fragrance , in my collection, is not bad is just too much of grandmother's fragrance
Gris Dior, one of my favorites. Wasn't love at first sniff but it really grew on me. Dark & stormy 🤍
I am 28, and since last year it has been my signature scent. I love the classy side of it, its sharpness and softness at the samde time, and how people can smell it on me whilst it doesn't get too strong for my nose, smelling in waves during the day. A great office scent also.
Gris Dior is a perfume I will have all my life. It’s a ‘desert island’ ‘top 5 for life’ for me. It’s extremely beautiful to me!!
That's awesome.

Totally it's perfectly fitting of Jenny Ortega as Wednesday! :)
I really enjoy Gris Dior as a professional fragrance. Perfect for the office!
Awesome.
I quite like gris dior. As you said as well I think it fits Jenna ortega quite well, has that dark feeling about it!
Totally!!
My first LOVE from this line… Normally a VANILLA lover, bit this one spoke to me❤
I love Gris Dior - it’s my scent of the day today. When I wore it last week, a young guy told me I smelled amazing, and wanted to know what it was. I always seem to get complements when I wear this 🤗
No one can smell me, whenever I wear it… Do you spray more then.. Lets say 4-6 sprays? I would love my surroundings to smell this beauty😅
@@sidselalbertsen898 Probably about 10-12 sprays 😆

Love this fragrance! One of my favorite in the CD privee line. It’s a signature scent for me
Everything old is new again! I definitely see the younger generation “discovering” classic chypres, especially those like Gris Dior and POAL that have a modern edge. The cool kids want in on the sophistication and class!

It’s so funny you say that as I wear Gris and have just bought Eau Capitale. The latter is definitely bolder and much longer lasting. I like having both as twists on a chypre to wear at different times. Now all that’s left is I need to graduate to POAL 😊
Yes! Totally agree with everything you said. My favourite is still the Gris Dior, a bit ,more wearable for me.
I agree, so similar to eau capitale!
This smells like a rainy day to me. A feminine leaning version of LV Orage. I love them both!
Gris Dior is my favorite from Dior! I also believe this fragrance fits the look/personality of Jenna Ortega. :)
Gris dior is one of my favourites together with oud ishbahan and tobacolor. Unfortunately they increased prices ,again, from 240 to 265 euro for the 125ml

I like Gris Dior. As you said there is not any fragrance smells like this.
I sold my old bottle of Gris Dior one month ago, because I was not wearing it at all and didn't like it that much. Now ad champaign and hype made me to try it again, and I fell in love with it. Now I need a bottle, but Dior rose prices. F***
Oh no.
Are you going to talk about the Precious Elixirs from Dior?? Haven't heard you talk about any of them, is it because they're oils?
This will be a good one. Retro goodies
Montaigne is the name of the street of a Dior Boutique, avenue Montaigne, not Mountain that mean Montagne. Really enjoy the Dior Privé collection, i have 9 of them
Gotcha!
I suppose because of the all the confusion of Montaigne vs Montagne they changed the name. Makese sense! ;)
Off topic, sorry. Will you be reviewing Roja's Taif Aoud and Isola Blu?
Maybe Isola Blu. I haven't gotten my hands on Taif Aoud. Also I sampled it in London when I was there in January! :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy fyi, Isola Blu is apparently just Oligarch rebranded
Yes I have heard this too. I have Oligarch so will have to compare.
I wore this today a sample that is and it does not last so I will just continue to sample
Love this fragrance so much. Thanks so much for reviewing it. Keep them coming Sebastian.
Bro, please let me know if there is an alternative to MFK OUD EXTRAIT de Perfume? I really like it. The problem is price.
I'll have to do test it. I don't think I have it currently. But perhaps do a video yes. Stay tuned! :)
Absolutely!! :)
Johnny Depp is the face of a Dior fragrance. The fragrance is Savage
Many many people raves about this one- I beg to differ.
Oud Ispahan is beast mode. Isn’t it ?
Never!
I love chypres, and I love gris dior
Awesome. It's a great genre for sure! :)
I just bought a 450 ml two days ago since 450ml is out of production now ❤
Yes I believe they stopped producing the 450. But I have a strange feeling they might bring it back. Might be due to covid I believe and the limitations on glass and production etc.
I hope so, the lady she working at Dior told me that 40 ml size is out of the production too.
Do gris dior came in 75ml bottle?
dear Sebastian.
Sadly I never smelled the cruise collection. Sounds like I missed out. It's discontinued? That's a bummer! :(
I was waiting on this ! Haha thanks !!
What oz bottle is that if you don’t mind me asking?
250ml
Hi everyone! 😉 I'm very happy, i just bought a Gris Dior 250ml for 150€ ! My mind is 🤯 haha I think it was a good price!
Thanks for sharing!!
@@ThePerfumeGuy Thank you, for doing great videos about this amazing world of parfums 👏🙏
I’ve tired Gris many times. I have an almost full bottle of Gris Montaigne. I’ll smell the cap every now and then… I never got much out if it honestly. And I am extremely surprised by the advertising (and celebrity endorsement) behind this fragrance lately! 🤷🏼♂️
Gris Montaigne was because Avenue Montaigne ( most expenses place in Paris ) 😊
