    I think it’s the white wire-where is the white wire? Is it loose somewhere and possibly touching ground as we is shaking?....

      A little late to the party as this video is 7 years old. This was a bad butt splice connection on the ign power wire to the box. Solved by soldering all the msd connections.

    Hello buddy I'm having the same problem or similar. With the msd box is hard to start and when it does runs at idle for a few seconds and then it dies. I put another box is an accel 300+ and it's start good but same thing few seconds and the engine dies. This is driving me crazy and don't know where is the failure. Also thought that it was my fuel pump but is not.

      Danivw55 hey bro just get a HEI distributor and call it a day. Check this out. I has a MSD ignition. They are great but MSD has a failure rate that nobody really talks about. I have a 79 c10 and that msd ignition drove me insane. The issue was the box. I just went old school and now it cranks every time. MSD is very sensitive. If 1 thing is wrong the system will not work properly. I love MSD but it's just best to get a HEI and call it a day.

      Jaquan Derricotte thank for the reply bro. I think the problem is the reluctor ring Inside the distributor. The magnetic pickup don't make signal to the box. It's very weird really

      Bro I would just get a HEI. But good luck.

    i'm years late to this diagnosis.. please inspect your ground connections..
    1. Negative battery post to the engine block..
    2. Negative battery post to the body.
    3. Engine block to the body.
    inspect is not really just a visual.. its a Take the fastener out.. wire brush both sides of the ring terminals.. wire brush the studs.. wire brush the bottom sides of the fastener heads. reinstall
    4. Thick black MSD box cable to the engine block or cylinder head. with an engine with 2 heads.. run a cable from the first Thick black wire on one cylinder head or the block to the second cylinder head.. what you think the spark vanishes from the spark plug.. it has to make a complete circuit back to the MSD box via the black cable. failure to connect the Thick black MSD wire to the engine block can result in a blown up MSD box as the high voltage negative may try to travel thru a positive circuit thru the 14 volt electronics with 50KV.
    why connect both heads together.. do you want the high voltage spark going thru the cylinder head.. thru a head bolt and threads in the block or across where a head gasket or intake manifold gasket is touching. causing electrolysis..

      I believe the instructions say to connect the thick black wire to the battery.

    • @waynep343
      @waynep343 4 года назад

      @@D-Mayor absolutely. be my guest. but.. if the spark path once it jumps the gap in the spark plugs.. has to go up the big battery cable to the battery terminal to connect to the Big black wire on the MSD.. would it not be better to connect it directly to the heads and block. shortening the spark path.. electrons like to take the shortest path.. its your car, your MSD box and your wallet that implodes when the msd blows out leaving you somewhere between your driveway and rancho cocamonga.. or worse... just short of the finish line..

    • @D-Mayor
      @D-Mayor 4 года назад

      @@waynep343 if that's the case why not just ground it to the body where the MSD box is mounted?

    • @waynep343
      @waynep343 4 года назад

      @@D-Mayor sure... so the spark return path will now.. be.. spark plugs. head, engine block, negative battery cable, thin battery cable to the inner fender then around to the firewall or inner fender .. or directly to both heads..

    did you find problem ?

    • @ProjectMataHari
      @ProjectMataHari  8 лет назад +2

      +Sam Hopson Yes. Some MSD boxes will spark once when they first receive power from a hot in run source. The IGN power wire to my box was butt connected together, it did not have a good connection and the vibration of rocking the car was enough to make and break the connection. This also caused it to drop spark while running killing the engine. Soldering all connections fixed the issue.
