I noticed that the dead animal bits kit has a bunch of shark jaws and teeth in it. I couldn't help but imagine what you could do if you were to take those teeth and kitbash the Red Wake. And I know I'm not the only one who wants to see it. 😁
So the new sanguinary guard kit is great for any jump pack infantry except the sanguinary guard unit. Got it, lmao. I do like it for this, and I probably would like it for Raven aguard as well
Lovely job. You’re right that the new SG are not awful in a vacuum. The problem is we know what came before. If they had been released under a different banner, they’d just be another ok marine unit… who now come in boxes of 3…….
@@PeteTheWargamer I think the issue is that Sanguinary Guard are very much meant to be extremely angelic. The old models were definitely too busy in my opinion, but the entire point of the unit was the wings and the masks, and the wings are basically gone with the masks being largely downgraded. Everything else is an improvement, but those two things are the real issues, and personally the only ones I've ever even seen people complain about (aside from the nipples, but that's a separate thing)
Oooh! I've got one of these guys going as well (custom Jump-Chaplain). In my case, I used the Reiver Lt model as a base, and it has included some of my most extensive kit-bashing I've ever done! I replaced both legs from the kness down with Assault Intercessor legs (I happened to have a spare pair that ere almost exactly the same pose as the Reiver Lt's normal legs), adjusted left arm with a different weapon (Plasma Pistol), completely replaced right arm, holding a custom Crozius that was made from a Necromunda Orlock Sledgehammer (plus extra bits), and a third party "Chaos Raptor" style Jump-pack (with some of the more obviously Chaos elaments trimmed back, but keeping the bone motif, because Chaplain). Finally I've topped him off with a Mk.6 'Consol' Helmet that was poached from a 30k kit (via Ebay). He will be leading my equally custom Vanguard Veterans (Who use the 'old' Assault Jump-packs on 'Assault Intercessors on foot' models, and wield Chain-Axes and Storm Shields). ~JD
The new sanguinary guard kit are a fantastic veteran jump marine kit, and to be honest, after seeing this I will probably get some even though I didn't like them at all at first. It'll be easy enough to just kit-bash or sculpt some more appropriate wings, as after seeing how you've used the sculpt, that's the only bit I really miss from the old ones. Another banging video, really making me think outside the box with my models.
Love the kitbash and the usage as a jump chaplain! Definitely giving me ideas for using the New Sanguinary Guard kit in my own kitbashes. Though it is still an utter disaster of a kit to replace the Sanguinary Guard.
Loved this kitbash + paint job Ive always wanted to make a jump knight and I think I can do it with the Stormhawk Interceptor kit making the wings into a sort of jet pack for the knights. Would love to see somethin like this from you one day ^_^
A big tip for improving those san guard is removing those bulky pouches round the waist of the model, it requires a bit of careful cutting and some smoothing out with a knife/sanding (as they are attached not options) but creates a much cleaner look and makes them look far less chonky. I actually quite like the new San Guard, they just need a little kitbashing to add a few more bits too them, just some ornate shoulder pads or different heads, either from the old kit or 3rd party stuff does a lot.
This is great but I don't think I redeemes the Sanguinary Guard kit at all. You could do more or less the same thing with a Jump Intercessor as a base, which would be a fair bit cheaper.
I absolutely love the way you painted the purity seals in this build! I always do mine in red and normal parchment colors, but that's a really cool paint scheme for them.
I watch every one of your videos, even if I have no desire to do the same kitbash. So many little nuggets, tips, and tricks in here. And the work you do is phenomenal.
Excellent mini, I will admit I wasn't the biggest fan of them, but after talking with someone we came up with the idea that these sanguinary gaurd now reflect Dante where as the older ones reflect Sanguinius. Again great conversion, helped me look at them in another light 😊
Great video as always. I think thats probably the most reasonable take I've heard on the new Sanguinary Guard kits, them being minimalist in their greeblies and flourishes making them really good for customization. As a side note, I'd really love to see your painting take on some hot jump pack exhausts some day, maybe in a future build! The Chaplain looks amazing as a whole, but I can't help but feel like the exhausts are a bit, I guess, lifeless?
I do agree that the new sanguinary guard is a better kit than the old one if you are intending to do heavy kit bashing and not use them as sanguinary guard.
I’ve never minded when a model has some of its ornate features stripped in a newer model. I always feel it’s the space marines preference when it comes to their armour. The worst thing with the new models was the lack of big wings for me. I always imagined these units to descend onto battle behind sanguinius all looking like angels coming to help the mortal men. Take away the wings and they are just plain jump pack intercessors. Don’t see why GW didn’t keep the wings but scale the armour back, they would also take in the money if they made more upgrade sprue sets with loads of options like the black templars one or even more.
I like the Sanguinary Gaurd as Vanguard Vets and kitbash bases, thankfully I have an idea for what I want to use as Sanguinary Gaurd that being dawnbreakers as I'm planning on using a unit of 10 in HH
When I first looked at the thumbnail I thought you recreated the pose of the old Lemartes model, and yeah it's mirrored, but definitely reminds me of that. I love it!
This just reminded me i need a primaris jump pack for my own kitbashed chaplain. I made chaplain cordae, the only known chaplain to succeed in one of the most difficult rituals a raven guard chaplain can undertake. To go into the mountains of khiavar naked and unarmed and slay the mighty rok. Sounds easy for a space marine, but these birds can cut a fully armored primaris marine in half with their claws and puncture armor with their beaks as well. He was granted the honor to wear the rok's bones on his armor, for the 19th velieve it to imbue the warrior with the spirirt of the great bird I read "jetpack battle priest who wears a bird skull" and new i needed to make him
I'd like to think that this chaplain was one of the brother-chaplains to the one who Lucius the Eternal slew at that fortress monastery in the warhammer animation.
Hey Pete, love the videos mate, I especially enjoy the way you talk us through the process. I’d like to know your thoughts on painting parts on the spruce?
Can you do a video on Duncan's paints? I've noticed the majority of the paints you use are now his. Are you sponsored? Are they now your favourite paints? Are you just trying new paints? How are they different/compare to Citidal/Vallejo/Army paints/AK? etc.
My suggestion for kit bashing is mechanical tyranids. I know it's not very specific but I had the idea of making mechanicum units with nids, and then I thought about Tauyranids and Necronids
I was saying to my mates that even if the new Sang Guard aren't super ornate they're great for customisation, also true for the new Corteaz... kinda, those legs are chunky.
The saguinary guard armour is good for veterans, but for the most elite, symbolic and chapter-specific unit of blood angels, they really deserved better. These are soldiers who (after his death) represent the might and power of sanguinus himself. They're also comparable to AoS Prosecutors and the Sisters of Battle Seraphims, both of whom have more imposing armour. If unaugmented humans in the form of the Sororitas can fight with wings on their back, why can't the superhuman Astartes? But that conversion is great, the painting is awesome, something that I'd expect to see in a white dwarf (although I haven't bought them since they changed from the A4 magazines to the booklets that removed all the bits that I liked).
Idk I like the idea that after The deviation of Baal given that the sanguinary guard we’re reduced to a single member. In the rush to rebuild the legion they also had to rush to remake the armor so it makes sense that they’re not as detailed and storied as the older sets.
@Pete the Wargamer, No gene-seed extractor? Also, the parchment for the Purity Seals looks odd being grey instead of the customary tan color. Great conversion!
Good to know that I’m Not the only one who’s perfectly fine with the new sanguinary guard, like they’re not great but I feel like the hate is undeserved.
brilliant as always - however I'm not a fan of using these regular reiver-helmets for chaplains as I always see a reiver-helmet. I know that it is REALY hard, to find anything else fitting and kitbashin a new helmet with skulls doesn't work mostly either but....yeah. I think the problem many people have with the kit is the general new warhammer-look with all the chapter-specific-character more and more removed - it makes more sense for selling models, but...yeah. + simpler models are more easy to paint, more new-gamers, more sale....
I know its been years but do you perhaps know what colors you used on your "Kitbashing A Grey Knight Kill Team" Video I love the look of these Grey Knights
The only problem I have with the new Sanguinary Guard kit is the fact that they ditched the old winged jump packs for the little derpy fins with wings painted on
Regarding the redeeming of the kit, it presumably would have been cheaper to start with a Jump Intercessor, given that the embellishments effectively hide most of the Sang Guard underneath? I’m yet to be convinced of the new Blood Angel kits. Stylistically they are a downgrade sadly.
Not necessarily, the Jump Intercessors have little difference in their armour from your regular Intercessors. Their shin plates are flat and featureless, as are their arms and mid torso. This makes them a little more boring if you're looking to create a unique leader type unit The fact that the arms also come without hands also opens up the possibility to use non-weapon hands. Something that would be trickier with the regular JI kjt
The fact that your defense of the new Sanguinary Guard came down to “they are good as long as you don’t use them as Sanguinary Guard” is pretty ridiculous
Am I the only one who thinks that the ribcage details looks like a facehugger? This chaplain is gonna need to perform some more Rites of Purification to cleanse the touch of filthy xenos off of his armor...
I can't wait to get to a point where I can use a $60 kit of 3 guys just for kitbashing. :) I still hate the Sanguinary Guard's new kit. I loved the crazy ornateness of the old kit. Everything in Blood Angels just got boring this edition. We lost our flair!
To be fair, if you were to buy the kit and repurpose the models as three leader units (e.g. jump captain, jump chaplain, regular lieutenant) it's actually cheaper than buying their equivalent kits separately.
The new design is way too simplistic, especially when you compare it to special units from other marine armies like, Black Templar's Sword Brethren or Dark Angel's Inner Circle and second, there is no value for money. The new Sanguinary guard stand at RRP £37 for 3 models (so, roughly £12.33/model), whereas the old Sanguinary guard were about £28 if memory serves right, for 5 models with almost 100 bits per box! In comparison, Inner Circle DA stand at £37 for 3 models (so again, 12.33/model) and the Sword Brethren stand at £40 for 5 models (£8/model). In closure, I believe that, with the current GW prices being similar to buying shares to an up-and-coming Whiskey distillery, it's better to start a Black Templar army, as there is better value for money and GW has shown way more love and attention to detail to that army's range and ruleset (I mean come on! You open the latest BA codex and on the first pictures the Sanguinary Guard have obviously wings, whereas the models don't!).
Looks good but when you have to cover it with every other kit to make it look good it doesn’t make the kit redeemed, still terrible. Really like your conversion work, that’s allot mor work than you give yourself credit for with the ribs but it does look damn good.

The desk ! The James guy that does big electronic robo builds. Used his as a word lift lol . Look so sturdy

Lore acurate tyberos.
His armor is a mix of terminator armor and dreadnought parts, kitbashing him is the law
Kinda makes me wish we had a Jump Librarian/Lieutenant/Apothacary we could just...take the whole kit and make three separate units with haha
If you swap out the Jump Packs for regular SM power packs then you could use them as any leader unit 🙂
Well the game has become literally no model, no rules. So expect those models to make a return once GW ever makes a model for them.
Agreed -we need another lieutenant
Yup we are definitely past due for a new lieutenant!
Shame for my sanguinary priest
I put all the effort on his backpack once I added wings and a jump pack a year ago haha
So the new sanguinary guard kit is great for any jump pack infantry except the sanguinary guard unit. Got it, lmao.

Hey Pete, love the videos mate, I especially enjoy the way you talk us through the process.
I’d like to know your thoughts on painting parts on the spruce?
I made one using lemartes, gave him the skull helmet from the biked chaplain and removed the blood angel symbols. Looks great

Hey Pete after the Titus conversion I’d like to see a mor action posed Calgar done or the rest of Titus’s team
Excellent!
I would like to see more kroot kitbashes, maybe some vehicles.
I'm slightly surprised this guy didn't end up becoming a Raptor, but still fantastic work
My only gripe with this kitbash is the crozius but I am a die hard traditionalist when it comes to those so I can’t judge off of personal taste
Going to do a jump pack captain with either this kit or a tornus the redeemed. Using custom bits off etsy as well.

I just realized, Dead Animal Bits is gonna be perfect for a Legion of the Damned Army
awesome, glad you did a Chaplin in Jump pack goodness
@Pete the Wargamer, No gene-seed extractor? Also, the parchment for the Purity Seals looks odd being grey instead of the customary tan color. Great conversion!
You're thinking of an Apothecary, Chaplains don't do the gene seed extraction.
Awesome! 👍🏻
except for the fairy wings, i kinda like the sang guard sculpts ... I don't even play BAs tho, so that might be why
What are the chances we might get some Dark Eldar kitbashes in the future? Would love to see an Archon or Succubus.
Super awesome Pete!! Unfortunately green purity seals are HERETECIAL
Very cool.
Sigismund as a dreadnought PLEASE!!
I just slapped a jump pack on the basic chaplain, added an iron halo to it, and called it a day 😅
Exorcists baby!
Ah yes, Sanguinary Guard that becomes good only when you use their bits to NOT MAKE A SANGUINARY GUARD!😂
I think it's just perspective, if you have a problem with following assembly instructions like me then it's a great kit with lots of potential uses 😂
Id love to see you make more raptors units maby a dreadnought?
Can we get a custom terminator apothecary? Either that or primaris tech marine on bike would be fun. Love making custom characters.
Good to know that I’m Not the only one who’s perfectly fine with the new sanguinary guard, like they’re not great but I feel like the hate is undeserved.
brilliant as always - however I'm not a fan of using these regular reiver-helmets for chaplains as I always see a reiver-helmet.

Yeah, can definitely agree that youve redeemed the kit
A new version of Logan Grimnar in the bigger armour or Bjorn the Fell-Handedif he went redemptior
I want to see an ogryn wielding a chaos space marine to beat down more csm's
I know its been years but do you perhaps know what colors you used on your "Kitbashing A Grey Knight Kill Team" Video I love the look of these Grey Knights

What brush’s do you use?
Kind of surprised you didn't do this for your raptors though
I’ve kitbashed a Phobos Chaplain and Apothecary for my Raptors.
Where can I get your dead animal bits kit?
I love the weaponry in the kit but feel the guard are a bit too bulky in places and could use some actual wings
thinking of doing a flayed one Necron lord with elongated body, after reading the twice dead king books. No idea how so wish me luck
Death of saints kitbash?
Im actually kinda sad you didn't take the chance to make him a Raptors chaplain.
I have already made one of those 😉
Death company go brrrr
Literally googling this 2 nights ago
How does he shoot his gun?
The dude is wearing futuristic armour and a jet pack, I'm sure they've figured out a way for him to fire a gun on his wrist 😂
@@PeteTheWargamer I just assumed there was an in-universe explanation.

Love the video how about guardsman hawke
The correct term is "tactical rock"
But there is more than one, so it's a tactical rockery 😉
@PeteTheWargamer aim for tactical boulder next time!

It's both the Librarium and the Excorcists chapter :)
