    As someone who has first hand experience with the TT and various other road racing circuits across mainly Ireland and the UK, and these kind of bikes I can say with confidence that this game is very good at simulating the ease of which these bikes get unsettled at low and high speed's. Also the visuals blurring and lighting is nearly spot on, maybe a little over exaggerated.
    It is extremely easy to throw one of these bikes down the road and at a place like Isle of man, that is a very easy way to get yourself Un-alived.
    Ive lost 3 very close friends to road racing. I won't share there names but 2 at the TT and one at the North West 200. And I almost lost my father. Luckily he's still with us and 100% fit and well.
    I love the bike content and appreciation Jimmer! If you ever decide you do want a go on a race bike, be it on road or off id be happy to help you out!

      as someone who used to ride bikes, i find videogames cant really deliver the sensation of riding a bike. for cars its close, but bikes always feel way more wonky. i think while you get a good understanding of a car through the steering wheel, the handle of the bike is only like 15% of the feedback you get from it. might be a good simulation, but delivering the simulation to the user is lacking big time

    One fact which perfectly sums up how wild the Isle of Man TT is:
    the cushions and straw bales aren't supposed to protect the riders when they crash into a lamppost at 200 miles per hour. They are there to protect the lamppost. The rider has no chance either way

    • @lyianx

    • @Person01234
      @Person01234 Год назад +4

      Why say something so ridiculous. Not every crash is at 200 mph, some of the bales and protection is there for when someone has an upset at lower speeds, the cushions aren't great but they're better than slamming your spine into a stone wall. In some cases they're there to try and control the bike so it doesn't spray as much debris and go flying uncontrolled into the spectators. Nobody cares about a lamp post, if a lamp post gets taken out they'll just replace it. Cars and bikes crash all the time all over the world, governments around the world haven't put up bales and cushions to protect their precious lampposts.

    I race bikes and even have a championship under my belt, and I have to say, this game is HARD. Also yes, on bikes you need to set up much before you actually start a corner, getting your body in position and the weight balanced correctly to then set the suspension and enter the corner. I think the game mechanics expect the same but it's hard to wrap your mind around when you're just holding a controller.

So far in our eyes every single sim rig as got it wrong from the very start. The one in development, even powered, can be rode like you were actually on a bike. Powered it's basically identical.

You can learn a *lot* about weight, brake distribution, and momentum management, consistent throttle in turns, and so on. I wouldn't say go race and push your limits, but consider taking a safety course, finding a nice comfy (comfy doesn't have to mean fast!) bike and a safety squad to ride with and go explore the countryside! It's a new way to enjoy something you already love :)

      A 125cc supermoto-anything (not chinese) is essentially the 1.6 Mx5 of motorcycles. You never really are going fast enough to do any real damage, unless you fall asleep at the wheel throttle pinned, and all the grip and fun you could ever want... until you get used to the power and start looking at 450cc race bikes and tyre warmers. lol
      Cheaper than cars and you can fit more of them in the same livingroo... er.. space.

    …as evidenced in your video the bike also seems to pivot about its center of gravity - the bottom washes to the outside of the turn, the top leans to the inside and the middle stays right about where it started.
    It’s like juggling a hockey stick with a 50lb weight on one end.
    Also, the fascinating thing about a motorcycle’s handling is that they are a product of their primitive technology. Riders have gotten so used to their weaknesses that they have developed their riding styles to exploit the bike’s weaknesses. The forks flex, the steering rake changes when the bike brakes hard, so turn in is LIGHTNING fast when braking. And to get the bike to rotate you either have to hang all the way off OR throttle up and get the rear wheel spinning.
    It’s uncanny, and extremely dangerous/

    • @retrasoentertainment3683
      @retrasoentertainment3683 Год назад +3

      you have pretty much summed it... As a biker I can only say don't try to trail brake until you have some experience, if by any chance you try to add lean angle as you have your front wheel full loaded for hard braking you're going to loose the front. So yeah, this bikes are land rockets, but every single motorbike can feel like a beast to tame

    • @233kosta
      @233kosta Год назад +2

      Any free body will rotate around its centre of mass when a moment is applied. Riders make excellent use of that fact when countersteering.
      Think body roll in a car. Except here it's on purpose and you want to roll in the direction you want to go. So you turn the bars left to roll right, gets you aroubd the right turn.
      As for balance, the rake angle on the front takes care of that. The way it's set up, the wheel tries to turn into any lean, thereby correcting it. Essentially static stability. But it only works when you're going faster than 15-20 mph. Less than that and you have to stabilise it yourself.
      The more rake angle you have - the more static stability there is. And it's harder to tip in at speed. So racing bikes have a bit (or a lot) less. But still you have to countersteer quite a bit harder to lean them over at TT speeds vs regular road speeds.
      Body position is also important. In a nutshell it allows you to lean the bike less for the same turn. So you can turn tighter or go faster.

      Riding a real motorcycle is super super fun. Once you get up over 15-20 mph you actually turn the handlebars in the opposite direction of the way you want to turn to make the bike lean. You can shift your body weight around to completely change the way the bike handles. I also think he should give it a try. In USA you can go to the MSF Safety Course (in PA its free!) and get like 5 or 6 hours of seat time and learn everything, they start you off walking the bike across the course just feathering the clutch and by the end you will be doing figure 8s inside a tiny box. I like to go and do it every 3-4 years so I can thrash a little 250 Honda Rebel for free.

    Raced bikes IRL for a fair few years, did about 120ish races. It’s definitely easier to gauge your timing IRL. The way you steer a bike is by pushing the bar closest to the corner, away from you, effectively turning the opposite way. That’s why the onboard almost looks like the bike is swinging around the camera. This means the bike falls into the corner, obviously you can do it by just muscling your way down, but counter steering is much quicker. It’s so violent sometimes that you can feel the bend in the handlebars at high speed fast changes of direction and bars completely snapping in this situation has happened too. (Leon Haslam coming into Sterling, Brands Hatch ~2019/20 I think)
    Worth experiencing bikes one day, there’s absolutely nothing like it and nothing more thrilling!

    One of the things about the rhythm of riding a bike on twisting turns is that you're not just using the handlebars to steer, you're moving your whole entire body left and right with the curves. If you imagine that you have to shift from hanging all the way off the bike to the left ALL THE WAY to hanging off to the right, you can imagine that it's not an incredible fast movement. You have gyroscopic forces you're fighting against as well. If you keep in mind that from "steering" (with the analog stick) left to right, the motorcycle isn't just being turned left to right, but the rider is completely shifting their body, it can help you visualize how to flow through corners. You have to realize that it's not instant, but a gradual shift in the turn.

    Im a lifelong car lover and have picked up motorcycle riding a year ago, and i can say that riding motorcycles is one of the most fun things ever. It’s something everybody should experience. I still like cars more than motorcycles to be honest, but now i can’t live without either of them.
    Riding on the Isle of Man in RL would be a dream, but only on normal speeds.

    If a car racing sim is a painting of a race car going around a circuit then a motorcycle sim is a painting of someone riding a unicycle while balancing a ball on their nose. Still very difficult to do but it has very little in common with the real thing.
    This game really captures the senses of speed and danger well but no motorcycle racing game has ever felt good to play to me. I started riding motorcycles over 15 years ago and I love racing games / sims but bikes just seem to be impossible to get "right" in a game. (no idea what that means btw it's a feel thing)
    Riding a bike is a full body experience. Like riding a bicycle. You don't think about where to point the front wheel in order to go a certain direction - you just do what the bike needs.
    The motorcycle will tell you what it needs so clearly that it may as well have been your own body letting you know that your arm can't bend any further. Other times, especially if you're pushing it, everything is fine until it isn't. The TT guys knowingly pushing the limits with all that furniture around is just nuts. My absolute biggest respect to them and their families. Hats off

    With bikes you want a later apex. It's really important to make as long of a straight line as possible because they accelerate so quick.
    Fun fact, motorcycles accelerate faster in a turn on the side of its tire. It plays into the gear ratio and the smaller circumference of the outside edges of the tire gives it a shorter gear ratio, meaning stronger acceleration. This means it's important to accelerate before you even get out of the turn (in a competition)

    I’d say from someone who has ridden bikes for a long time, driving a bike in a game is different then a car and a car game. With a car game, the feeling of the weight transfer and how it is responding can be somewhat ignored, or replicated. A bike, that isn’t possible and it’s essential which is why it’s hard to feel when you are tipping, when you should turn in and how hard.

    Then in his words... It went in slow mo.
    He hit the floor and kicked the bike away. Then slid on his back with his eyes closed.
    And he came to a stop.
    Bike was in bits.
    His leathers, back protector and helmet was trashed and now live in a display case along with a photo of him sliding on his back in a cloud of bike shrapnel that someone took.

    Love the sense of speed (and danger) - biggest gripe is that yes, when you are going fast you better be tucked in behind the windscreen, but turning on a bike involves moving your upper body, and seeing a bike leaned way over without the head of the rider moving out from behind the windscreen kills it for me. You need a control system where one thumbstick controls the lean angle of the bike, and the other thumbstick determines the rider's position on the bike.

    The tires have plenty of grip and it's not about the contact patch. Modern track day tires that anyone can buy will get you to about 1.7g in a corner leaning at around 55 degrees. Braking we can only hit about 1g before the rear tire comes off the ground and steering takes a bit longer than a car.
    It is really hard in game with a controller. It's much more intuitive in real life. VIR North is fun and I actually used Ride 5 to learn the track before doing my first track day there.

    Every experienced car driver (think 10 years plus) that came to me and said "I'm getting my bike licence", my reply is always it will improve your driving. None of them believe me, but a year on from passing their test and with some mileage on their own bike behind them they come back and say, " WOW, my driving has gotten better." Bikes teach you so much, things you thought you knew will be refined or even redefined. Be they smoother throttle control, braking technique, even road reading skills & instant decision making, that beforehand you thought were good will all simply just step up a notch. It may even aid your real world racing career as you learn how to apply a higher concentration level for longer periods of time, because you have too. The biggest threat to any biker beyond their own control is the car driver who refuses to see you even after they've looked in your direction.

    Interesting how you described the rythm of riding a bike. I guess i never thought about it but yeah there is a delay in steering compared to a car. Would love to see you do the training to get your motorbike license jimmer, no need to even buy a bike, just the training would be some top notch content.

Cornering on a bike is a fine art, you use tip in and turn on points. Also to answer your question about keeping throttle on etc, when you hit the brakes you tip into the corner still using 15-20% brake power (trail braking to load the front tyre More grip) then you crack the throttle to settle the rear tyre to make both tyres under load then start the exit lift the bike and put the throttle on to drive out. Only thing you don’t get on the game is the Thrwap of items going past in helmet view at High speeds.. nice lap though hummer

Yes cornering a bike is something special and the more weight/mass the bike has the more you notice that on weight transfer. Certainly when flipping from knee to knee on a left to right or vice verse. So I'm swapping my weight off to the side just before I'm turning in. One thing you really have to watch is passengers. Some freak out on a big lean and lean away, and that can be disastrous. Hence it would always be my first rule to say to a new pillion rider. Keep your body level with mine.
