Thank you for making the video. I watched it several times to prepare for the job. Mine has a second choke cable that was in the way of the valve cover coming off, so I had another step to deal with. The torque value for the 8mm valve cover bolts is 80-106 inch pounds. (Not foot pounds.) I was recommended to torque to the lowest value first, so set them at 80 inch lb with the new valve cover gasket. Because the new gasket is rubbery and thick, the low setting of 80 in lb felt fairly tight so I'm leaving it there and will check them after about a week of driving, to see if they should go a little higher/tighter. 93 in lb would be right in the middle between 80 and 106 in lb. I thought I would go to 93 in lb, but since 80 in lb with the new thick gasket feels pretty tight, I'm stopping there for now.

I recently got a x90 with this motor and the engine ran great, but was covered in dirt and oil. I cleaned it and exposed an intake manifold leak and possibly a valve cover leak. Runs horrible now, so hopefully doing this and the intake manifold gasket will correct it. Started at it already, but my fingers need to do some yoga to remove some of these bolts!

Thanks for this video! Super helpful.
So 1 year later, how has it been? Any leaks after this reseal? Also, it didn’t seem like you used any rtv or sealant anywhere. Is that right?

Well it has one wheeling trip on it since then unfortunately so can’t give a solid review. But as of now no leaks. And correct I did not use RTV

Always take a few minutes and clean off the valve cover and motor before removing the valve cover. Dragging the throttle cable over the cover and hitting the wiring will cause dirt and crud to fall into the motor. You should be cleaning it up anyway so why not do it first. Regular oil changes will help reduce the varnish under the valve cover and the cylinder head along with valve components.

Never clean aluminum with oven cleaner. Lye dissolves aluminum.
