    Very nice techniques! I've been painting horses like this: After a basecoat of a dark brown, I do a light dry brush of SILVER, being careful to only brush in the direction of hair growth of the horse (this will generally follow the curvature of the muscles); afterwards, I do a top layer of chestnut ink. This simulates the shiny effect you see when a horse has been running or working hard.

    Pinto horses seldom seen, better to play safe and make most horses chestnut or bays brown with red brown tinge. Usually darker works best, such a burnt umber. Lower legs from just above the knee, tails and manes black. One to three white feet, sometimes white marks on nose. Pink mouth, nostrils

      oh no i wouldn't say that at all, i find in this hobby there are multiple ways of doing something, just find a method that works for you and try something different now and again :)
      Most of the time i would try to leave things as a sub assembly - such as a rider for videos, that way they don't get in the way of the camera shot and/or i can get my paint brush in without having to get my head in front of the lens haha

    What would you do for black horses?

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  Год назад +1

      Good question!
      I have a black horse and white horse video that i want to create to follow this one up. I have not put pen to paper yet to get some initial ideas down for them.
      But i think a useful strategy would be to have a couple different highlighting colours - such as a bluish grey, brownish grey in mind for them - as soon as i come up with something then i shall make the video! :):)

    Can this be done with horses that are primed gray? If i basecoat the whole horse afterwards in dark brown or lighter brown. New to painting

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  Год назад +1

      Absolutely! Spray primers are a great way of starting off a model, and with coloured ones out there now it's nice to get a close enough colour to start with.
      That being said, grey is a nice neutral colour :)

    Normally all horses have the mane and their tail having the same colour.

    Black horses are the the worst to paint, ring wraith mounts.

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  2 года назад +1

      I think not only that, but they were a bit annoying to put tighter, there is such a huge gap between the metal components. I do need to get some for myself, and I have black horses for a video idea too :):)
