Thank you so much. Horses can be a real treat to paint. I loved making this video and I’m blown away by the positive feedback I’ve had from it. Thank you for commenting it honestly means so much!
..some really good ideas there , I'll give this technique a try , ..so many different ways to colour our horses , years ago I painted 54mm horses using the oil paint on , wipe off technique , brilliant if it works but a bit of a mess if it goes wrong , ..now I layer my horses in 28mm , painting the leather and horse furniture first , and painting the horse flesh in between. !! , thanks for a great tutorial ,
Thanks for this awesome comment. I’ve heard about the oil technique but have not tried it for myself yet, it does sound very messy indeed. Maybe it’s something that I’ll take a look into in future. It’s a great idea to pint the leathers and bits first as you can really focus on pushing the colour of those horses further afterwards. Thanks so much for watching my friend I appreciate it.
Great tutorial Dan, we sometimes forget how often we have to paint horses, I liked seeing the variety of different styles! Very good for inspiration! 😀
Thanks again for your awesome input mate. Your right, horses are something that we paint a lot of in our fantasy games. It’s something that is a big feature of most fantasy armies but it’s also something that is easy to forget. I’m glad you enjoyed this one and hope I can make other useful tutorials like it in the future. Thanks again bud, take care and I’ll see you soon!
Useful and pretty, but you’ve left the job half done! 😁 What about the muzzle, nose, eyes, blaze, hooves and of course the socks? The vast majority of horses have white socks, typically on 1, 2 or 3 legs but rarely on all 4. The biggest problem I always have is to make the reins clear and distinct from the horse’s coat - hard to do when they’re two slightly different shades of dark brown!
Thank you for a great comment my friend. I often paint with lots of different brands and have favourite paints from each one. I find it helps to expand your colour range and helps to build up a great collection of different shades too. Each one has its own unique style and the paints are all different consistency that allows you to use them all in different and unique ways. Thanks so much for dropping by, watching and commenting my friend I really appreciate it 👍🏻
A fantastic video thanks Dan, Peanut Butter is my favourite a lovely horse! It's going to make me dig out my 90's Citadel painting book and reread the horse chapter I think they go into painting dappled horses too.
Thanks a lot John. Lovely to hear from you again my friend. Peanut butter is my favourite too! It’s a lovely colour with bags of character. I bet that old citadel book is an amazing nostalgia trip and I can imagine it’s a lot of fun to go back through.
That's fantastic! Good luck with your Union Cavalry my friend, I bet they will look brilliant. I'm glad this video has helped you out and thank you so much for the lovely comment.
Hi David. I use very simple, cheap synthetic size 0 brushes. They are called “ROYAL” soft grip. I find them very good for paint flow and details. They are easy to clean but also very hard wearing too. Hope this helps you out my friend 👍🏻
@@garywakeley thank you. I’m so happy to know the video has helped you and offered you some cool new ideas. The brushes are royal and langnickel that are available from the works 👍🏻. I mostly use size 1, 0, 0/5
That first Horse is a cross between a Camel and a Llama .Or a carousel horse . Warlord use the same mould for Marshall Ney figurine . What a Shocker . Someone in the city hasnt seen a horse when they designed it
Wow that’s a great bit of info there my friend. I had no idea the horse was used with different brands ( Gw and warlord ). That’s actually very interesting considering how much he likes to try to keep everything “in house” these days. Thanks for the fun little comment and of course watching too 👍🏻
