    DUDE. Lord of the Rings miniatures and Speed Paints are literally the most niche Venn diagram I'm looking for online. You've hit the nail on the head. I know you've probably already painted the Fellowship traditionally, but I'd also LOVE to see your take on painting them with Speed Paints. I'm not the best painter anymore, but this would help me achieve amazing results with the least amount of effort.

      haha thank you! Painting Middle Earth minis is my main focus for the Hobby so i plan to do a lot more with that. Currently im going through the Fellowship (the original plastic set) but started them pre speed paint - so i think i will carry on that series with out for now. But you never know i may do more fellowship at a later date with speed paints :)

    I'm more of a "traditional" painter, but I'm hoping the Speedpaints will help me power through my backlog without fussing and fussing over each model to the point of a standstill. Seeing you get each figure done so efficiently is very encouraging. My box of Speedpaints is due to get here on Monday or Tuesday!

      Yes they are a good set, i myself pretty much follow the 'base, shade, layer, highlight' rule so for me this was a bit different. However i think i can incorporate them into my normal painting style for some good 'speedier' results - like you i have a backlog that needs to get painted. I dont like seeing a mound of plastic minis haha
      I hope that you will have fun using them! :)

    Can't wait to try this out myself, I'm still waiting for my mega set to ship despite pre-ordering in early February 🙄
    I'm thinking of using the technique you've used on the shield but to create flames on some flaming skeletons(D&D).
    Also really love the fact you use Army Painter paints as I've just switched to AP warpaints from Vallejo and I'm really liking them.
    I can't seem to find any other AP friendly channels?
    If I could make one suggestion, I'd love to see the paint labels stay on screen longer but that it just my opinion.
    Again, I'm impressed with your production quality for such a young channel 👍🏼

      Yeh, i switched over to them from Citadel and prefer them, especially the pots themselves - just less wastage for starters!
      I could be able to tweak that, thank you for the feedback. Might not be in the next video or two as it will take me a couple of hours to go through them all and export them out on my side as i custom made them haha
      And thank you, i did a lot of research on the video side of things before starting as i wanted to create something that would be both visually interesting but informative, as well as have some of my personality in there at the same time :):)

    Great video.
    At this point of time I primed all 40something minis from BloodRage black and added a drybrush layer of grey and white on them ( I did it quite rough for some dramatic effect).
    Over the next few days I want to use only speedpaints to get them done and I have set an overall timelimit of 50 hours for the whole game to be done. Usually I paint very slowly and carefully and this game I just want go brave and creative to get rid of the fear of messing up.
    If I get the whole package done in under 50 hours, the rest of the time will be used to amp up the quality on my favourite models.
    Keep the speedpaint videos going, I really like that you try to experiment a lot with them while a lot of people have written them of due to the reactiveness and them being used to Citadel contrasts.

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  2 года назад

      I think its a good idea that you mentioned getting rid of the fear of messing up just being creative and having a go, but then if you finish early you can always go back and add some extra bits on your favourites!
      Please do let me know how you get on and send me a picture or two as well- they would great to see!
      Yes i shall keep on going with them as i've now integrated them into my day to day usage of painting minis.
      I will be adding short videos onto my ko-fi creator page too, i did one recently to a question that someone had, so please do check that out if you think it may benefit you with more content! :):)

      hmm good question, the citadel ones would look ok, most of them are a good fit - with some of them being maybe a mm or 2 too big - but i don't think it would look off or really noticeable. I cant think of another brand at the moment- but i have seem them floating around on Etsy! and they are less expensive than the GW pack also :)

    Great looking paint job, I am a bit confused though, you seem to have added lowlights with the dark wood, but isn't the speedpaints designed to do this themselves? It seems that you are just using speedpaints as layers and washes.

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  2 года назад +1

      Thank you very much! Yes indeed, after playing around with them on the previous video i found them to be so much more than just a 'one coat of paint is all you need' solution, and if you wanted to use more of the range you can do, so i created this combination of effectively a basecoat and wash - but using speedpaints.
      By just using 1 paint, such as the Malignant Green would work to a degree, but by using other colours in the range can give some nice depth to a miniature and the Dark Wood was perfect for that to give it the final appearance :):)

    Love the paint scheme. It looks awesome. I'm really excited to get my hands on these paints myself, I do have one question though, I'm new to the use of a hairdryer when painting but I've been told that it's a good tool. Any tips on how to proceed with this?
    And how long would you estimate that the drying time is?

      @SwordsandBrushes  2 года назад +2

      Thank you kindly! Yes I really wanted more colour but still keep that ghastly ethereal look to it. And I’m super happy that I finished 20 in no time!
      For the hair dryer, I would say to NOT use the highest heat setting. I tend to do mine around the middle setting and just do a few seconds at a time. And just keep looking to see how it goes (depending on how much paint was used last) you will get used to it fairly quickly I think :) it’s just a good little tool to help out now and again :)

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  2 года назад

      Ah a very good question, i could have expanded on that near the start, it is not quite a drybrush. I added a small amount of paint, and dotted it onto a sponge before applying it to the miniature. The softness and width of the brush then applies the paint onto the miniature smoother than a drybrush technique.
      I believe its my cave troll video where i go a bit more into depth about the make up brush technique if you get a chance then please do have a browse and i hope that would help :):)

    I just clicked on the next video and got the answer to my previsou question abot painting those undeads. Really great job!
    I am impressed by how thin and accurate your highlights are with what seems to be a "large" brush.
    Doyou mix you highlighting paint with water in order to dilute it and prevent a too strong difference of colour withthe base paint?
    Why do you use water to dilute your green, Couldn't medium do the same with a better covering capacity ?

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  2 года назад

      Thank you very much, and also you have some very good questions! :)
      Yes if i remember correctly i used a 'Army Painter Regiment brush' which is i suppose on the slightly larger side of their brush range.
      Most of the time i stick with what i have close at hand, as long as it has a nice point to it and can get the job done then thats all i need :)
      Oh yes i always use a tiny bit of water when using the normal paints just to have a bit of flow to it, if i use a significant amount then i will add it into a description as i do the video to help others follow along. In this instance the yellow highlight was painted quite thinly because it is a bright colour, traditionally without speedpaints i would have done 2 highlights for sure, but the yellow is all that was needed in this case.
      I used water with the Absolution Green to make it more transparent than what medium would do, it was more to turn it into a wash. You could achieve something similar if you use more medium, but you only get one of those pots in the set. So i will make it last longer by using it sparingly when needed :)
      I hope that helps! :):)

      As I discovered to be more interested in the process of painting than the stage, that I have a painted mini, my focus went to "no rush, everything count" approach. But I have to admit, that means I tend to be overwhelmed during the process, and tired near the end of it. And the time spent is not worth the result (but worth the pleasure while painting). But i get better every time. I usually don't like shortcuts, because results are messy or visibly not that interesting, but the cloak on your mini looks great, and the staining looks natural. I don't know if I would feel like I did it on purpose, or that the procedure of staining did it for me, and it simply worked out. But I enjoyed your video very much, and it got me thinking...

      Thats great to hear, it's also good to improve as you go, learn something new or just try something different :)
      I have in the past spent what i think is too long on some miniatures and when they go on a shelf i am happy with it at first - but the thing that inspires me is a nice looking army and i think thats what i wan to do now with my time :)
      Im glad that you enjoyed the video as i try to show/explain different methods/techniques and of course tips and tricks, and hopefully they will be of use to someone out there that would like to give them a try.
      The main thing i think should be, just enjoy it and have fun in the hobby. Meet some cool people that are like minded and have a chat with and play games if you are into that :):)

      They were done with a slightly darker theme in mind- just to make the ghastly green stand out a bit more and "lift the miniature" from the basing scheme.
      The colours and grass were the following;
      Apply sand first,
      Matt Black (base)
      Monster Brown (drybrush)
      Gorgon Hide (drybrush)
      Dry Grass glued on in patches

    Hi there! I love the color scheme and the techniques used here! One question, would you make any additions or changes to the king of the dead mini? if so, any thoughts on how you would make him stand out from the rest of the army? Thank you!

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  Год назад +1

      Very good question! When I do purchase the King i think i would add in some Purple or Red to certain areas to give him a more Royal Appearance and make him stand out more to the generic warriors.
      So the armour - especially on the chest, the helmet - or even some areas towards the bottom or the robe/cloth would be a good way to go! :):)

    Why are you using water instead of Speedpaint medium?

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  Год назад +1

      I found early on that using a bit of water reactivates the paint slightly which is already on the miniature - This allows the colours to blend together a bit :)
      You can use Medium but i found that it would act more like a glaze, and i would have to do more brush strokes to get a similar effect. Both would work however, just depends whichever you are comfortable with :)

    "You can spray the miniature with a coat of varnish in between the layers" - well, the problem is: my Vallejo Acrylic Matt Varnish reactivates Speedpaints also very well :|

    • @SwordsandBrushes

      @@SwordsandBrushes I like them because the have a high defense value and enemies have to take courage checks. Along with the King and the Heralds, I think they are a formidable foe. Also the Pelannor starter kit has them. I've also developed Minas Tirith, Mordor Orcs and Uruk Hai armies. I play against myself (no friends) and I'm still working out the strengths and weaknesses of all the armies. I split my time between playing and painting. I love them both so much. I paint my armies with particular color schemes - Red=Morannon, Dark Grey=Minas, Moss Green (mostly)=Dead, Mordor=Navy blue, Rohan=Forest Green and Uruks= Black. These are just the Basic colors but, all of them get a full detail treatment. I wanna see if the speed paints can help with the overall tones and then add details to the models.
