About 5 years ago I bought a 2008 w204 c220 and I've been doing the services myself. Thanks to you Alex... I always thought that mercedes would be complicated to work on but man, I have been fortunate to learn how easy it is.. I've just recently had to pull a leaking injector. Replaced the copper seal, cleaned up the carbon and put it back in within an hour! I couldn't believe it as I thought I was fudged... Thanks for all your videos over all these years...
OJ is definitely the best friend to have around-great sense of humour and a heck of a great fellow! Awesome video Alex, hope your son had an awesome time
13:01 You’re an awesome problem solver, Alex. It’s little tips like this that keep me hooked on this channel. You could have easily had alternate careers in Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering.
Glad to see two people that mesh work together, my own life has daily drama and watching you guys relieves my day. First and foremost that's what's this is all about!
I toured the Mercedes plant in Alabama when it first opened like 20 years ago. They had this big open house event where you could test drive M Classes and they even had one of the Lost World Jurassic Park movie cars there. It was so cool.
Alex, trail hack for a bottle jack. Most cordless drills with a standard drill chuck will grip the extension rod that the tire tool turns. It can save you time effort and sweat when manually jacking especially in stages
This is good stuff. Im always happy when i get the notification for the new upload and not many channels can keep my attention for more than 40 mins lol. Keep up the good work brother.
I drive an 08 ml350 daily and it got all the power i need after like 3k rpms. My brother uses it as a tow rig and i use it for my 12 minute drive to work everyday. 177k and still strong!
U finally sold me on that drying towel. I got your sponsor ceramic coating kit too, about to coat my freshly painted LS swapped foxbody I did with my grandpa! Much love LSC.
Alex, I gotta say that this is the best video you've uploaded. I like your videos, but this just this was just awesome. Watching you fix cars is one thing, but the smile on your face was priceless and the work you did to make this day with your son was outstanding.. OJ is awesome too. Do more of these videos brother. It really makes the content you produce that much better. Does OJ have his own channel? He seems like a solid individual, a person that you want as a friend.
It's about time you brought back this ML rig. I was really looking forward to seeing other videos with it. These vehicles have open difs, but the 4Matic system makes up for lockers. Love the video
Love seeing diversity on the trails! As a pointer, you can air down your tires to around 15 psi for both better ride quality and much more traction off road (hard to tell what they were at on camera). And if you ever find yourself searching for scenic trails through KY give me a shout! My group goes out all the time and know some amazing places and fun trails
Alex and crew + Oj + father-son fun!? Great fun for a video and teaching lessons to youngsters yours and around the world to always aim for their dreams and aspirations and never quit!! Great show, thanks Alex and company!
I was doing this in the summer of 1984 with a brand new Bronco II Eddie Bauer edition. A buddy of mine got one for hs graduation. His dad was a Ford exec like many in the Detroit suburb I lived in. The place that we did all the off roading is now filled with homes.
I miss my ML55.. Did amazing in the sand and on the trails out here in Vegas. My buddy ended up rolling it, and everything went downhill from there, lol😮😅
Four wheeling is always a great time - especially when trail repairs manage to get you back home. This is definitely making me want to buy a rig and get back out on the trails again!
Coincidentally, I stumbled on your channel a few years back looking for info on replacing the alternator on my wife's GLK350. Who knew you'd be my favorite vlogger...
Very strange about the nut, with lock tight etc. Shows how good the old castellated nut and split pin were. I know there was no option with this nut though. I Would LOVE to get round there with my old Land Rover Trialer, looked like great fun. I was an Off Road driving Instructor for Land Rover for just over 20 Years, the colour of your ML tells me you were going through the dirty water too fast, but then fast through the water is good fun. Otherwise you driving looked good. One piece of advice, when you have wheel spin going on, sometimes turning left and right about 1/4 turn quickly can throw the drive across the front axle finding a bit of available grip. You dont want huge amounts of revs on at the same time though 🙂
I live in Canada.. Toronto to be exact and I'm currently on disability assistance so watching your channel and content let's me live vicariously through you. Being on fixed income is tough as well so doing builds etc isn't in the cards right now. I was wondering if you would be able to send a hat or some piece of LSC merchandise so I can rep your brand and channel up here in the great white north. Lol. If this is something that is doable please let me know. P.s I hate asking for hand-outs or charity but I figured I'd give it a shot. Thanks again for the great work.
As a lifetime off-road guy, I highly recommend carrying a small chain saw and hedge trimmer with you. Something everyone used to do back in the day. Fallen trees and limbs, stuck in impossible positions, clearing up overgrown trails. Really makes a huge difference off road..
I've been watching older videos and I realized I don't care what car it is,I just really enjoy Alex working on cars and explaining what he's doing. One of the best quality channels on RUclips.
For the upper ball joint nut issue... double stack and add another nut or ideally drill a hole for a cotter pin and castle nut. We've dealt with these issues for years in the Can-Am mud bogging community
Off-roading isn't really my thing, but fun to watch the carnage of things breaking! Also, get that alternator rebuilt (or DIY it and it's more content), it'll be a heck of a lot cheaper than replacing.
This was an amazing video Alex!!!Great footage of the impromptu repairs while out on the trail with whatever it takes to get back safe. What great memories made with the family off-roading. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Fix the abs sensor wire. Even with esp off it still uses the wheel speed to brake slightly on individual wheels so the open diffs act like a limited slip. That’s why it still does well off-road with the open diffs.
You're awesome Alex! Oh and the hard to easy scale is ALWAYS 10 is Hardest! LOL. I just did the Voltage regulator on my E46 M3 and it was so much cheaper than doing a full Alternator swap! I think most if not all Bosch alternators have that as an option. Very cool. ROCK ON!
Nice to see you guys up in Droummond. Im up there all the time, If yall ever wanna get out more and see more of Droummond, I can assist with that. Most of the beauty of Droummond is located off the island, via boat to another island. Fossile Ledge is also a great trail to test your 4 wheeler lightly. Just about any lifted 2wd or stock 4x4 will make it.
I had my alternator die at the racetrack, bought one from a guy for 20 bucks and it charged, but got about halfway home and it started making a noise like bolts being thrown against the side of a metal shed above 2500rpm. Made it home ok, but when I felt it by hand it definitely had a slightly crunchy feel to it, whereas my good spare was 100% smooth.
My Land Cruiser transfer case doesn’t hold a ton of gear oil, but I’m a nut about changing it I probably do it at least 2 times a year. Same with the transmission fluid, I used to never change mine but it’s so easy with a drain plug I do it all the time. always looks new now but I still do it.
Thanks for another great video! Love the content and I just bought some much wanted items off your website site, can’t wait to use them and also bought a few other items I’ve seen you use for automotive tools, thanks again!

1 hour of Legit on a saturday??my day just got better
Nice one Alex - AMG performed really well- Great to see OJ again, what a cool dude that cat is.
I can hardly believe how well you did compared to all the purpose built vehicles! Great job, Alex!!
Glad to see two people that mesh work together, my own life has daily drama and watching you guys relieves my day. First and foremost that's what's this is all about!
I always rebuild alternators for peanuts. It's usually either the bearings, the commutators or the regulator. The coils almost never go bad.
150amp alternator..
What a beast ...
Wow the "bolt bottle jack" hack was really smart. Will definitely use that some day.
I toured the Mercedes plant in Alabama when it first opened like 20 years ago. They had this big open house event where you could test drive M Classes and they even had one of the Lost World Jurassic Park movie cars there. It was so cool.
Alex, you can turn off the auto-central locking by holding the unlock button for 5-7 seconds with the key 'on' engine off. Quality mod for sure :P
It sounds like a pre 80's pinball machine in there!
Keep at least 3 pieces of 1'x2"x8" in the back. A 3 gallon garden sprayer with water comes in handy for spraying off parts, hands, face, etc.
Alex, trail hack for a bottle jack. Most cordless drills with a standard drill chuck will grip the extension rod that the tire tool turns. It can save you time effort and sweat when manually jacking especially in stages
Great job on the bush fix. Good thing OJ was with you.

Just a tip, once the nut in on and torqued, drill a small hole and cotter pin them. Keeps them from vibrating out.

22:05 That's an important point =D The AMG ML wasn't really designed for offroading with GIANT TIRES =) It was probably engineered for some offroading with stock size tires, but mostly for handling and good grip in snow and ice.
With the power and torque combined with the HUGE difference in forces and loads on the whole driveline with massively oversized tires, it's a wonder the thing doesn't just eat axles and transfer cases the first time one of the rear wheels slip.
Remember that larger diameter wheels will increase the load on the whole driveline almost exponentially, because there's a longer lever (the diameter from the center of the wheel to the outer edge) resisting the power/torque and also the shock loads while offroading.
Although true.
I'd trh ML is in low range that would increase the torque of the engine.
..
Also there usually some redundancy
(over engineering )
built-in to the drive line
On 90s cars it could have been as high as 80%..
I'm sure Mercedes drive lines are pretty strong...
