The second time I had a bad Opti-Spark on my 93 Firebird Formula, I said im done, and purchased the Delteq Ignition coil conversion system. Kit came with Cadillac Northstar coils, Valve cover braket system, and a new pigtail to connect to the default optispark connectors. Didnt even need to remove the old optispark, since none of the connectors were connected to it anymore. I eventually removed it when i did the electric waterpump conversion, but that was about a year later. That Delteq ignition coil system was a phenomenal life saver. Car ended up with a common build for those LT-1's, CC306 cam, AFR 227cc heads, 52mm TB, Ported LT-4 Intake, built forged 383 with H beam rods, and supporting mods. Also had a 150 shot kit. Tuning was a bit wonky since it was the old eprom, and i never went with a different ECU. Car had the supporting mods for the engine build, and suspension mods. upper and lower control arms, pan hard bar, sub frame connectors, tubular k member, 3.73 rear gears (yes I stupidly kept the shitty 10 bolt) and Eibach Sportlines which gave it a beautiful drop on its face. It was a beautiful car, and I miss it. I still have love for those LT-1's.
As someone thats done several of these optisparks. Please note that the waterpump shaft seal is prone to leaks. It’s probably where most of the leak came from. Additionally the new seal has to be installed a certain way as its double lipped which requires the lips to face outward and requires a special tool to install. Ill post a link.
Also, if you guys are doing the person in need car giveaway. I have a great person (single parent mom) that needs a car and lives in Chicago Absolutely legit on the need. Let me know if you want her contact info.
If you leave the whole snap up without cutting it off, you can push the oil pan up and it will hold both the gasket and the oil pan in place while you start he other screws. Then you can just remove them with your fingers and put the last 4 bolts in. I did this on an explorer and it was awesome. I was able to save the snap ups for re-use as well
My 92 did the same thing, MAP sensor was bad, bought my 92 with a update opti spark thank god, upgraded fuel injectors and wires, racing spark plugs and wires, next i will be adding a supercharger and NOS... great vids, us corvette guys need more of them...
I’m a recent subscriber and I must say, it’s def my top 3 favorite channels to watch. I spend most of my days off just watching this channel and thoroughly enjoy learning from it. Never thought I’d want a V-8 Mercedes in my life but, I find myself wanting one badly now! Keep up the good work Alex!
I don't know what it is but this C4 has me addicted to it. Maybe since I was born in 1990 it was always a car I saw but dang I love to watch the C4 videos.
I had the same issue with my 1995 Corvette, my brother had bought an aftermarket Opti and it was bad, the bearings were shot, I am glad I saved the old Opti which tested good, just needed a new cap and rotor, bought an Accel and it been golden since!
dope watching this corvette come to life, i worked at at adesa where it was before it went to copart, really wanted to hear it run in person but glad to see it going to good use. good work!
You are very courageous buying this modified C4. Ignition and fuel injection system were very sketchy theses years. But I enjoy as much as you do fixing these cars one at the time and getting stranded! Keep your authenticity! Well done guys!
I admire peters recommended taste test, and how he always convinces you to do it. 😂😂 you need to trademark that on a shirt @ 30:15 “ does it taste bad” 😂😂
I just bought a BDS 10-71 with intercooler and forgot how heavy it is. Replace small block with 540. Everything is still in boxes and I got sick. So enjoying your channel.
2 things that help a ton. Magnetic tray and Purple power. PP is way cheaper than degreaser. In do love amsoil products though. Another key deal when you first get a vehicle to repair that's old like the C4 is just go ahead and degrease the engine bay when you first get it. Thanks agiain for all the awesome videos that I like, share and hope everyone follows.
Can't say it enough times, love the long videos where we get to see the final product of all the work you did instead of how other RUclipsrs brake it up in small videos of 12 to 15 minutes so they can get more viewers per video because people want to see the final results and have to wait weeks to see it. Also, I have been using the word Funangle, if that's even how you spell it, for years. Example, I need to Funangle this fricken part back into place, and I live in AZ 😁. Go Kari Lake
Finagle is not just a Chicago thing, we use it in North Dakota also... Like the video can't wait to see the finished product... Have watched all so far...
One of the best ways I have used to get a crank bolt out is to take a long breaker bar and correct socket, put it on the bolt and the other end of the breaker up against the frame, then take and bump the engine over and itll break the crank bolt right loose with no damage to the car or your hands.
My friend Greg had a car that looked identical except for the color quite a few years ago. In case you are still looking for information on the body kit, his was a Greenwood Corette, also with a Procharger. If memory serves me right his was a 383 stroker.
Had one of those 94 and that color. There were 1385 of them made in that color for 94 if I remember correctly. There was a color before that and another year they called Black Rose. I had a custom Targa top and bought a Lingenfelter spoiler for the rear. Mid America sold many of the aftermarket parts back then. I bought gold embossed letters to place inside the rear lettering. I loved that car, but sadly didnt get to use it much living in the north east. Stored 6-7 months out of each year. Everyone loved that color though.
I believe I saw older stock forged SBC connecting rods in that engine instead of the factory LT1 Powdered metal rods. Since internals were interchangeable with the older SBC they might have thrown a set of TRW L2256 forged flat tops in there- hard to say... +1 on the LT4 heads.
Happy to see you're Feeling Better Peter! Long Time Subscriber. Alex, just Thank You! My Dream is to Exchange keys with you One Day on a Car I helped you work on. Rain, Sleet or Snow you've been LEGIT!!!
I just took my 67 289 .30 over balanced and blue printed Mustang notch on its first run after rebuild and she had been sitting since '12,even tho I cleaned the fuel tank she still stopped up the filter.Might be part of your problem with this C4.
Just like a ball mouse, and as far as I know, scroll wheels up to today. Also the way the machining centers I run track the x/y/z movement. There is an encoder on the back of each axis drive motor, but instead of slots there is a thin clear disk with little black stripes on it. Made by Mitsubishi as well!
In the heyday of the LT1 I got down to where I could swap one on a C4 or F-Body in about two hours. It would probably take me a day now lol. Awesome content! I had two Ruby Red 93's, one automatic and one manual.
Honestly, I have owned so many diesel based parts cleaners, and believe me they work great, but the absolute best parts cleaner that I've ever used in my life is the one that I got from Cintas. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I had one in my shop and their parts washers use a live enzyme cleaning solution and it worked better at cleaning engine parts and oilfield used parts than anything that I've ever seen. I put an extremely well used set of cylinder heads with over 200k miles on them and I let it run under the normal spray for about 15 minutes and it melted the oil staining out of the aluminum and it made them look brand new. It even started to loosen the carbon in the combustion chambers. I have never seen another parts washer work like that one.
Getting ready to buy a 92' C4 Monday. Drove it down the highway a ways. Doesn't seem to have any problems. However, the Original Opti-Spark is still on it. I wanted to get the link you said was down here somewhere. I searched for it, and couldn't find it.
47:45 it looks like the belt is routed the wrong way. The pulley has ribs on it but he's gone around the wrong way, I wonder if that pump is running backwards
I think you’re right Alex. Your exhaust sounds like it’s clogged with a bananas in your tailpipes 🤣(remember that movie). That classic deserves an upgrade. You basically have a new motor with all the parts you and Peter installed, so why not make it sound meaner!!! Looking forward to seeing the next video 👍
Waiting for the next episode to find out... did the thing that random clip under the intake fall off because it didn't have a clip? Sure sounded nice when it was working right though!
I wonder how a C4 would look if it had a retro 63 Vette split window rear hatch??? 😂 Idk why that just crossed my mind out the gate a couple minutes in when it had a rear shot of the C4...
I would have absolutely had the injectors cleaned and flowed before reinstalling the intake. There is no individual cylinder injector trim in the car i believe

My long cranks were fixed by a fuel pressure regulator replacement
The harmonic balancer is the car wizard correct in what he says you have to remove ?😅
Everyone should have their own "Hype Guy" like Peter. That man is a saint!
You two are great together on the channel. Asian respect from a Filipino gearhead

That aftermarket chip should have the factory prom plugged into it at a 90deg to the factory prom port.

Cat parts were used for many things like violin strings, hide glue and bow and arrow strings to flech arrows or wrap bow strings.

Some quality repairs you did there!👍 I’m sure you’ll get the rest in the next video and it will be running mint and reliable as well.

I've been waiting all morning for this one. Time for another cup of coffee 👌
I would never be able to keep track of the fasters and how things go back together. You do amazing work
Such a good job repairing, diagnosing this! Really enjoy these long episodes, a great show Peter & Alex!
My friend Greg had a car that looked identical except for the color quite a few years ago. In case you are still looking for information on the body kit, his was a Greenwood Corette, also with a Procharger. If memory serves me right his was a 383 stroker.
Make sure the vent hose for optispark is secure and in good shape if yours has it, if not you can vent your own.
I had a feeling it was that I commented on the first video and said that it was the optispark but I’m glad you guys figured it out
57:18 pasta, fagioli...good pronunciation, appreciated that from Rome Italy
Can't waite until the next video on this car. Thumbs up!

Gee it sounded ballzy @51:20 bloody loved it....
Very cool project car. Don't give up on her. That car can be a classic sleeper once you get the bugs out of it. Take care
Thanks for the harmonic balancer trick! Considering the aftermarket supercharger and whatnot, the Opti-Spark really wasn't too bad at all.
The optispark ignition is the major (and only) flaw of the LT series engine. It is why many swap to LS or the older SBC engine.
I think i can become a mechanic after watching your troubleshooting
Good to see Peter back.
0:12 Riiight, Peter moved it around redline a few times. Lololol 🤣
Bromance is legendary!!!!
This is such a good series. Awesome car. Great to see it get back on the raod.
Damn just did this on a 96 z28 Camaro LT1 not bad after u do it once. But still damn opti spark was original gm optispark
Loved..."...it's basically a hybrid Toyota!" at 1:00:42!! 🤣😂😆
Happy to see you're Feeling Better Peter! Long Time Subscriber. Alex, just Thank You! My Dream is to Exchange keys with you One Day on a Car I helped you work on. Rain, Sleet or Snow you've been LEGIT!!!
Definitely will share the video with my Dad he has Arctic White 93 and is having similar issues 👍

hi lads for your screws /nuts and bolts you should use a magnet tray...?.realy handy...
The space for repairs is really small but its a good car, love from Nigeria 🇳🇬

Hey, Alex, Peter! It's possible they meant the skin of a big cat. Such as a lion, cheetah, tiger etc. That's the only thing I could think of.
Great work guys, it’ll be all done soon👍🇮🇪
This video brought to mind the line from "Apollo 13":
"What have we got on the spacecraft that works ?"
Gotta love SponsorBlock!!! Effective as always... 😁
Peter..🧔 "What does it taste like?..
Alex...👨🔧 "Like oil and metal..I guess..!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 like your guys quirkiness..watching from 🇿🇦
You’re really giving me 80s/90s American muscle fever Alex. If I end up picking up a retro muscle project, I’m blaming it all on you 😂
Fenagle is used everywhere, I'm originally from CA and I've been using that word for over a decade lol
Lovr you guy the positive and fun vibes are contagiousx❤
In the heyday of the LT1 I got down to where I could swap one on a C4 or F-Body in about two hours. It would probably take me a day now lol. Awesome content! I had two Ruby Red 93's, one automatic and one manual.
Better rebuild the differential . It's only spinning one tire . A Thorsen Locker would be a nice upgrade .
So I noticed when you changed the icm you didn’t put any thermal compound on it which is gonna help keep it from burning up hence the heat sink
Thank you for doing this channel. I'm in heart failure and it really keeps me entertained since I pretty much stay in bed most days.
Enjoy this series

Loved the video, an old C4 is on my short list for a turbo LS swap project, you guys are a blast to watch!
Originally called ABITS “Angle Based Ignition Timing System but Opti became the more prevalent name.
47:45 it looks like the belt is routed the wrong way.
The pulley has ribs on it but he's gone around the wrong way, I wonder if that pump is running backwards
It ran better without the water pump! Shout out my bro Adrian who went crazy replacing an opti on his vette.
I think I remember seeing that car at Woodfield mall back in the day
I know that gunk , that gunk is combination of hot coolant , dust and a little bit of oil to help it stick ;) :D
great work guys love from india kerala keep going
Love how they wast time. You get that code your pulling the pump no matter what.
It’s probably water and a rock from when you were power washing that came through the gap in the balancer seal and crank
"condensation in the oil pan" we legit all just watched him accidentally pressure wash the open seal on the crank xD
Alex, did you forget a harmonic balancer bolt? You showed us three bolts for disassembly but there were only two for assembly. Love your videos btw :)
Looking at all this work and tight space would it have been easier to drop the engine out the car and work on a bench?
Can’t wait to see the electrical cleaned up. That’s a sweet ass car. 👍🏾
Waiting for the next episode to find out... did the thing that random clip under the intake fall off because it didn't have a clip? Sure sounded nice when it was working right though!
You should use Naptha in that parts cleaner.
I love the color
Naptha in parts washer is best, add some atf to keep from drying out gands
Precision torque converter.. That's the only ones my shop orders
Are you kidding me? Thanking me for watching this whole video? No bud, thank you for sharing this experience with us!
I wonder how a C4 would look if it had a retro 63 Vette split window rear hatch??? 😂 Idk why that just crossed my mind out the gate a couple minutes in when it had a rear shot of the C4...
Condensation lol you pressure cleaned with the pulley holder off witch is what seals the front cover none the less good content
peter making you taste every part you take off on cars makes me die laughing 🤣
Cat guts were used to make classical guitar strings.
I would have absolutely had the injectors cleaned and flowed before reinstalling the intake. There is no individual cylinder injector trim in the car i believe
How come you didn't taste the oil lol. I love these kinds of videos.

Corvettes come lt4 fbodys lt1. Looks like someone put stage 2 rods in as well it should have had pm rods
Just like every other comment, not usually a longer video watcher but I do like watching LSC’s even if it’s ruby
I was thinking that condensation in the oil pan from sitting ,would burn off with enough run time?
You gotta dyno it once everything is fixed, my guess is 425hp to the tires.
Might have to rename it, cleetus has a corvette named ruby. I'm thinking "The Red Dragon" 'it's not exactly Street legal'
Have you checked the EGR valve ?
When you need to fix a Chevy, just use a Toyota part...
I like this guy.
I need to come get a ride in that monster one of these days lol, keep up the great work guys! LOCAL FAN ;)
Great video brother
Can't believe Peter missed his opportunity to ask you how does it taste while you were talking about how the oil smelled. I was waiting for it........
Love your content guys
