    I just went through this last week on my Jayco 5th wheel. The lady at E trailer didn't know anything and just wanted to issue a return label. I called Sumo Springs and sent them pics of my mounting issue and they had a Tech call me back. He said I'd need to install a different leaf pack plate that is narrower to fit the bracket. I said that's not happening and that Sumo Springs needs to offer bigger brackets and longer bolts for a solution to the customer. I hope they see this video and realize they better do something about it. They didn't seem too motivated from my conversation.

    Installed both the Blue Sumo Springs and the Road Armor equalizers on my 2019 Imagine, without any issues. Took my time and had both done in a weekend, with a couple of bottle jacks and a bunch of patience. The handling, ride and vibration isolation is fantastic. I would HIGHLY recommend both upgrades to any travel trailer or 5th Wheel.

    I appreciate you taking the time to show stuff that doesn't work as well.
    This is the problem with 'one size fits all' solutions. There's too much variation in RV manufacture, but after market parts builders don't want to take the time to have variations, because buyers screw up measurements all the time and they end up reshipping more often than in your case.

We just finished up a 28 day 6500 mile vacation and the brackets are still perfect. When Called etrailer for advise the suggested trimming the plate so the Sumo would fit.

    Looks like if you take the nut off the through bolt that it would expand enough to go over the plate. After you get it past the bottom angle then it should close enough to get the nut back on. You might have to loosen the sumo a little to help it expand then twist it back tight afterwards.

    Okay a suggestion! Because I've used similar product on pick up trucks! By put a scissor jack between leaf spring and frame to left / separate gives ANYONE enough space to install THIS system! One side at a time! Plus by doing so you t get enough space to also use the spacer plate! Which on trucks where proved for the difference between 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive trucks! Because I was pulling have loaded trailers (horse trailers ) I chose to use the spacer because very hard to adjust horses around in trailers based on weight! Those systems worked awesome while LOADED, but empty did give a very stiff ride which I'm use too anyways

    This system wouldn't fit my 2008 Keystone Raptor 299MP. My issue was the spring plus bracket with no spacer was too long. This is one specification that is not called out on Super Springs or eTrailers website. The instructions do not specify the minimum distance from the leaf spring plate to the frame. The Sumo Spring with bracket is approx. 6 1/2" long. With my axles unloaded I only have 5" between the plate and frame. eTrailer did accept a return. The only charge was for the prepaid return shipping.

    I don't understand why you would want the Sumo Springs since you have the Road Armor. The Road Armor gives your suspension more vertical travel, while it seems the Sumo would restrict vertical travel. To me they seem to work against purposes. Please explain what I am missing.

  • @denhammkc

    I installed these and long story short ASSEMBLE the bracket and spring on the spring pack top plate. Put the 2 halves on the plate insert bolt in center that super spring screws on then insert the bolt that clamps the 2 halves of the bracket (loosely) attach the super spring, tighten all up and good to go. Super spring actually had to make me special bracket due to my spring top plate was extra wide for the shock kit I installed.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  3 года назад +1

      Ok, so the bolt is 3.25" long, so even if you tried to slide it through after installing the backers, it's not long enough. Also, the brackets require the bolt to be inserted through the bottom before you can assemble it on the plate, so how did you accomplish this? Also, the slots in the brackets do not allow them to be slid apart beyond 3.25", how did you accomplish this without making new brackets? Finally, in order to screw the spring on top, you would need to raise the RV an additional inch, did you somehow install yours considering all these factors?

    • @denhammkc
      @denhammkc 3 года назад

      @@BigTruckBigRV yes , I raised the frame of the RV with the 6 point Hydraulic leveling so the wheels were almost off the ground plenty of room then between frame and spring pack, then put the 2 halves on, put center bolt in, screw the super spring on loosely, then put the clamping bolt in last and tighten it all up. My top plate is extra wide as it came with the aftermarket LCI shock kit, I sent Superspring the measurement and they made me 4 outer brackets that had longer top pieces that the center spring bolt goes through, this kept the spring centered on the frame. I still had to assemble each in place. The only problem was the rocks I had to lay on at my storage place when I was installing them.

    I have Sumo on my F150. Yes there is 1/2 or 3/4 inch gap when unloaded. And there's no gap when my camper is hooked on.
    Are you saying the 5th wheel will "squat" that much to the point there's no gap?
    If you leave a gap there once you hit a bump and the Sumo will hit the frame it's like hitting a brick. It actually makes it worse then stock suspension. You need to know how much the 5th wheel will squat when loaded because you don't want a gap there. It will make it very bouncy ride.
    I can tell my F150 was smoother without Sumo now it rides more like F250 but it only squats 1 1/2 inch.
    There's no telling how the 5th wheel will ride because nobody can ride inside. My experience with Sumo is they help with the squat but not convinced the ride will be smoother.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  3 года назад

      The instructions with these is that there is no gap when installed.

    • @henryford2736
      @henryford2736 3 года назад

      @@BigTruckBigRV that makes sense. However on pickups there has to be a gap because the Sumo is not supposed to effect the suspension when not towing. But it does if that axle moves more than an inch hitting a bump. Adding the Sumo to the 5th wheel will make the suspension stiffer. That would mean stiffer ride.

    thanks for this, I am curious though, other than a relatively easy install, what is the advantage vs installing heavier spring packs? Sumo's look to be around $250 per pair, you can buy spring packs for $60 each so for the cost of one side of Sumo Springs, you can upgrade all 4 Spring packs, yes this is much more labor intensive, but it a solution instead of masking a problem.

One issue we have is that whenever we drive on a road that undulates a lot, the trailer accumulate swing to a point where the cabinet door opens up because the cargo is swinging like crazy back there. I'm hopeful that new brackets will be available for these so I can make them for.

    So wait, you still posted this video knowing that you couldn't install that unit? But at the beginning you were acting like it was must see tv. You have officially become one of those RUclipsrs that care more about views than content. 👎

      Lol is that what you think? I believe it's that I went into this project believing it would work. I found out I had a fitment issue on my specific RV (that other buyers might run into) and felt it was worth informing my viewers honestly. Most RVers may not encounter this problem though. You've become one of those viewer's who thinks everything is a conspiracy and trolls channels expressing your opinion. Cheers to that.

      @@BigTruckBigRV You could have waited until you got a fix and posted this video with it installed. It's not as if you were doing it live. And I have no idea what that last part is about. Yeah, I have nothing better to do. Glad I had this little interaction with you, it's told me a lot about your character. Get well soon.😕

      Back at you brother. Character is often more defined by the instigator. You made assumptions with no factual basis for it. And to answer your question, I'm not even sure the manufacturer is going to make a fix for it. Many commenters indicated the same issue with no resolution offered from the manufacturer except to replace the top plate, which is something I wouldn't do either. So, I hope they offer a revised product BUT if they don't, I want folks to know what challenge they may potentially encounter. That's being honest and ethical. Sugar coating the issue and waiting an indefinite amount of time for a manufacturerer solution is being deceiving.
