I love that the backsplash goes with the shower. I was thinking do the wall to the right of the sink.
I took that trailer light hack one step further, so I guess not as much a hack as in install, but wired up a switch in the rig that turns on all my marker lights. Good Hacks JD! Keep up the upgrades, those are my kind of video :-)
You can do the same thing with a flat blade fuse between the top two pins on the light cord and it’s safer because it gives you a fused connection!
I really like the back splash in the bathroom. What about continuing the back splash onto the right wall (the wall with the light switch)?
Love the backsplash as is in the bathroom, I wouldn’t run it up the wall any further.
Agree with Denise .. do not run it up the wall.
Agree...adding more horizontal begins to shorten the room.
Tall people need it all the way up and across ceiling too.
Agree on the height but why not put it on the right side too? Is the side wall immune to getting hit with water? I think it should be on the side too. Just my opinion.
Pat
Looks good. I'd leave the stick on tiles as they are. Like the trailer light mod!
Your quick connects look so much easier than mine. I quit using them. I will look into how to change them. Thank you!
Part of the fun in purchasing a new RV is "tuning" it to your personal likes an needs! The other factor is resale, not only will it possibly add to the value but sometimes make the difference of them buying your RV over someone else's!
But then , there's Murphy's Law, "What you purchased to upgrade this RV WILL never fit the next one!" ..LMAO!
Keep up the great posts!
This video was very helpful. The next time you are in Michigan, please stop in and help my husband organize our RV storage.
Thanks for the hack. Jumper and stick on tile are my favorites
We did the back splash in the kitchen of our fifth wheel and my wife love it.
Thanks for the jumper tip, I would leave the bathroom the way you have it now. Looks good.
tile all the way up YES .... thank you so much for your videos
I like the bathroom tile. I also use brass 90 degree connectors with shut offs for my water connections. Since I’m seasonal in our Brookestone 395RL I only have to use the shut off when I leave the campground.
I like the back splash totally changed the bathroom. I would however make it go up to the bottom of the cabinet. It will help with any water splashes on the material wall so no discoloration. I’d leave the sides as they are. To me it’s a back splash not wall decor. Nice job. And thanks for the tip on the breathing material for under the mattress. Great video!!
Its looking fantastic. Your shower room back splash is just right. The lights are better .looking good.
Running off to check the mattress today. Lots of good ideas. My best hack was adding another access door to the basement under the bathroom. Tons of previously inaccessible space there. Keep all my emergency tire changing stuff there. And extra cables and hoses. And I can crawl around anywhere now.
An even easier way to power up the running lights is to use a 15 amp fuse. It fits perfectly between the two connectors on the 7 way plug. Also, not a fan of the tile on the kitchen island, but I really like it on the kitchen and bathroom back splashes. Thanks for the great videos.
The trailer light trick is awesome I learned it a long time ago if you want to make it more permanent get a female 7 way and jump 1 to 7 it looks really cool on an airstream
Mattress tip is exactly what I was looking for. Thank u
Looks good in the bathroom JD. I'd put it on the wall with the light switch myself.
I like the back splash as is! Less can be more, it looks awesome now. Liked the light hack, and had never even heard about the mattress moisture issue, so that was nice to learn!
Id leave the strip the way it is looks really good
Backsplash looked GREAT!
I just received another pack of those tiles from Amazon today.
It will be more than enough to finish my kitchen.
Now I know what to do with it rest.
That backsplash looks great.
Thanks for the idea. 👍
You can light up the trailer to find it in the dark and annoy your neighbors.😁
Yes, youre sticky tiles are perfect in the bathroom, no more needed.
Its contagious, i added stone sticky tiles to my fireplace wall and it looks fantastic. Thanks for the great idea for the quick connects, thats gonna be my next move.
A simular hack to the wire jumper is purchasing a "bus flasher". The bus flasher has angled terminals that plug right in the RV harness. This is great if you need to leave your RV on the side of the road and run for parts or something. The tail lights flash as a hazard but all the lights flash as well. If someone hits your rig with all that light flashing they are blind... lol
As usual, your videos give GREAT ideas of how to personalize an RV!!!!
Tile looks great. Might do that in my RV. I have used the hooks down below to store my hoses and power cord for years. Works great and out of the way. Thanks for the other ideas JD.
Use an automotive blade type fuse( the large style works from say 80-90s cars) instead of the jumper wire on your light hack. It fits between the two connectors on the plug just fine. Might have to bend one side just a little. You have no protection from battery to trailer lights since that projection is provided on the tow vehicle.
Just ordered the bed mattress mat. I never thought about condensation building up under the mattress. Thanks for another helpful video!
Another hack on the running lights jumper is to use a turn signal flasher. It will plug into the same terminals. You need to make sure it is for tour bulb style, LED or incandescent. If for some reason you need to unhook camper on the road an night, this makes your camper visible.
JD, some really great hacks/ideas; gonna implement some (i.e., jumper to ck lights, stick-on tile, mattress spacer) right away. Thanks so much for sharing!!
Y'all Be Safe!
I love to see your small (and cheaper) hacks!! It’s the little things that make things so much fun to go camping!
I never knew human sweat can produce mold! I am considering buying the mat!
Great video! Love the hangers in your compartments...we're still outfitting our new 5th and I have extension cords and hoses coiled and laying down. The jumper wire for the lights is genius! I like the back splash low, which leaves the lighter wall above to reflect light and it works well with the cabinet trim color. Great work!
Add backsplash to switch wall !!! Utilize jumper wire to check brake and turn signals!!!
That really makes the bathroom pop.
Great information, love the back splash😀
I’d put the tiles up the sides along the mirror, as well as on the side wall beside the sink. It’s easier to clean tile than the RV wall material.
Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference. Nice video!
Wonderful hacks. Run the tiles up beside th mirror.
THANKS, all great hacks :)
Love your vids...
Loved the bathroom tile, looks great as is, don't go higher. I would consider tile on the wall to the right of the sink as well (same height).
Love the stick on tiles in the bathroom, nice choice. I would keep it straight across as you shown it.
Backsplash in the bathroom.......... Mint! 👍
The more upgrades the better. Seems like you can pretty much do it yourself, so that's good too. Thanks.
Tile looks great! All the way to the top!
Man JD, you come up with the best hacks ever. I love the bed underlayment. The bathroom backsplash is gorgeous. Leave it where you have it, any higher would not be backsplash. I'm still on the fence with the pull out drawer in the basement storage area. The rack and carriage use up so much side space just to pull things out a little and add extra weight. Thank you for your tips.
All good ideas. Going out now to look under the mattress!
Lot of great info love the light jack and the bath thanks ,keep them coming
I like the back splash. I think I will do that to ours. I have I around the stove, but think I will change it. Looks very nice.
Put two heavy duty eye bolts on your Goose Box, and hooks on both ends of your safety chains. That way you can leave your chains connected to their loops in the bed. Much easier to hook up and unhook at Box.
Loving the upgrades especially the decorative tile backsplash. I'm thinking about putting some in my travel trailer now.
Learned about the light from a video last year. I like the quick disconnect. The backsplash looks nice and I had no idea about the mattress thing.
I think it looks great can't wait to see if you keep it or continue up with it either way looks great much more personal.
Love the back splash!
I use a flat automotive 5amp fuse and bend each leg at an angle and plug that into the wiring plug. It will fit in there nice and snug. Its safer with the fuse, and I leave that in there all night to light up our site without being obnoxious. Bonus, you can use your camera system as a security system , just bring the monitor into your camper, I'm sure we all have 12 volt adapters, its all powered up with a simple fuse.
A 10A blade fuse achieved the same result as the jumper cable you made with the added benefit of a fuse! (Referencing the powering of the market lights so that your cameras are on)
Awesome ideas, new projects for my 5thwheel.
Great hacks! I like the splashback as it is.
I Love the tile in the bath, I would run it all the way up to ceiling just to look like a whole complete wall, love your vids
A hack on a hack! Adding a flasher to your jumper makes a great Christmas light display in the campground!
Love the backsplash in the bathroom, I’d leave it as is. The running lights hack is a new one for me, I’ve always wondered how people lit up their RV’s like that and now I know. Thanks JD. Oh.. The folks of “ Our Not So Perfect Lives” are to possibly inquire about figuring their pin weight of their new Cougar FifthWheel and GMC Truck. They went to a scale and had the truck and trailer weighed.
That back splash is great.
I've been thinking of doing that and extending the one around the stove top.
Great idea on using the mat to get air circulation under the mattress. I need to do that. We are on our first 5th wheel RV which we bought used. I tossed all the old mattresses and replaced them with bed in a box memory foam mattress. In reading about the memory foam mattress, I found many of them have a fiberglass mat that will deteriorate and produce tiny fiberglass particles. The ones I bought are not supposed to have the fiberglass... I bought bag style zip up mattress protectors that product against the fiberglass, dust, mites, sweat, etc. The bathroom tile looks great, add it up the side walls also.
Great hacks. Especially the stick on tiles, I had that idea also but didn't try it yet. I wasn't sure the sticky tile sheets would stay on the wall. Did you have to prep the wall board with anything? I will now! My dealer told me about the light check hack when I bought the RV. The mattress vent pad was new to me and I will probably be doing it before we head to Florida for a stay there. Thanks for the great info.
I used a good quality stick on tile in our RV bathroom. Easy, looks great but many sheets have separated from the wall after the first winter ( gets down to at least -35 Celsius here quite often). I've tried gluing it back down with different glues but nothing has worked so far. I did not prep the wall before installing. Thinking of trying Weldbond (sp?) next for gluing vinyl.
All great ideas. thank you for them!
I run the lights like that when we are at the race track. There’s hundreds of rigs crammed in like sardines and the kids (and mom) know to look for the one with the running lights on. Gen set keeps the batteries topped of, so no worries about running them down.
The bed vents are a great idea will check that out
A suggestion for trailer lights. A hack I put on every trailer I own. Purchase a 7-way (or whatever vehicle side socket matches your trailer wire) and install on the trailer. This does a couple of things. Keeps connections clean and free of mud dauber and moisture. Also, self cleaning wiping action occurs which helps on the tow vehicle. Next, I like to wire the marker lights into a power connection so I can turn them on, but I also tie the turn signals into a flasher relay so I can have 4-way flashers even when the tow vehicle is not connected. Example, having to get a couple tires repaired on side of the road. I can disconnect tow vehicle and still have flashing 4-way. On my utility trailers I wire the 12V Battery + and ground into a disconnecting plug for charging the brake booster battery or the utility battery (dump trailer, etc).
re: bathroom tile, the height is good, maybe add some on the wall to the right of the sink too.
Great tips, thanks!
Cool tips! I had no idea about mold under the bed. It makes sense now that you've said it but it's not something I've ever thought about!
Very nice hacks and upgrades to really personalize the trailer. I have used the jumper wire trick. I stopped using the quick connect because it seemed like they were getting minerals built up. Note I didn’t have a filter at that time. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
Yep bath backslash is perfect how you did the install.
Backsplash looks good. I'd leave it as is. Solid advice on the mattress barrier, I'll be doing that mod for sure.
The backsplash looks nice. I also like your hacks.
Your bathroom looks good with a back splash.
Awesome looking back splash bud 👌
Yes, I found yuck under the bunkhouse mattresses.
I used the same backsplash in the kitchen when I remodeled our fifth wheel
We put a fuse in the 7way plug and it's great for finding your rig at night in an unfamiliar rv Park!
Like the ideas, as for the bathroom backsplash we think instead going all the way up the one wall, keep the same height and just do the same height on the other wall side from the sink.
I always appreciate your forethought
You can just shove a 15amp fuse in between the two pins on the trailer plug and it will do the same thing. That's how I turn on my running lights at the site.
Awesome back splash in would go all around the medicine cabinet
Back splash looks good. I would do the side also.
Instead of a wire use a 15 amp fuse. Or for fun when you're parked, use a flasher plug in. Bring the tile out on the right.
when I drove truck ,we used that trick with a wire jumper for light or a quarter sets dbles/trip;es. lv backslash where it is. thanks for your channel
I like the back splash
Put the tile backsplash on the right side of the sink at the same height. If you can, cut a strip for the corner to hide that trim.
We have only taken 2 trips in our first ever travel trailer. These are some great hacks. I am definitely thinking about trying the mattress hack, but am curious if the material will stay in place on a Murphy Bed, as I have a Flagstaff Micro Lite 25 BRDS. I really like the hose quick connects and your use of the hooks in your storage bays. Lastly, the backsplash in the bathroom really makes it "pop".
Very nice upgrades. And very entertaining as well! The backspace in the bathroom looks great. My only concern is the peel and stick adhesive coming off in the Texas heat while your unit is in storage. Thanks for the tip on the trailer lights.
For the lights I use a 5 amp spade fuse.
I am gonna try that tile Really looks nice
Like the tile the way it is. Did something similar to ours also.
When we have campers around us leave their trailer lights on all night, we call them "Wonder Lights" - We wonder why they leave those lights on. I do have a plug mage to test all of the light on my plug. Works great and saves time when I have to replace a corroded plug.
Wrap around the bathroom mirror it looks so premium after the tile wrap
I like the bathroom backsplash and think you should keep it below the medicine cabinet and not up higher.
