  • An Overpowered (OP) build for a Multi-class D&D 5E Rogue-Ranger that has a massive initiative modifier. Possibly kill a Dragon in the first round and make your DM hate you.
    Also an alternate build with 3 levels of Bard for way better skills, higher initiative, but doing a little less damage.

    Jeremy Crawford has stated that favoured foe and hunter's mark cannot stack. According to him your only allowed to concentrate on one thing no matter what it is called

    Great video, thank you!
    I'm currently playing an Assassin/Gloomstalker in Tyranny of Dragons as a Cultist Killer. Xbow Expert will allow 2 shots per attack action per round (don't have Extra attack yet) at either close or long range at targets with cover (assuming you don't have anything in offhand and not using bonus action for anything else). The Assassins 1st round surprise ability has been very situational and may have been able to use once in the 7 levels so far. I went variant human to get the free feat at 1st. Definitely fun to play and can dish damage, take the xbow away and he's still able to help

    Technically, you get sneak attack one time per “turn” not “round” 8:55. So by this premise, the larger your party the better (more turns = more opportunities for sneak attacks) to satisfy the wording of the feature. Just saying.

    I have used a build that is similar. I do a 1 level dip in Fighter at the beginning and choose Archery for +2 to hit and 2nd Wind, I can use any weapon, and I choose Acrobatics and Athletics.
    To be honest, most DM's I've played with, only bother with Acrobatics and Stealth, they usually just say, "yes, you hear something sneaking up on you, or, you recognize that language", to keep the game moving and not have to roll dice after every question that is asked. If I try to jump a 6 foot gap, they are going to say, "you made it".
    I've DM'd and I do the same thing. If a Rogue asks if he hears anyone following, he is obviously listening and being perceptive. I'll only use a perception roll, (which I will make), if the Rogue hasn't said anything, and I think there is a chance I think he would have heard it. I don't tell them what the dice roll was for, and I keep it on the down low, as if I was just tossing a dice at random.

    Cap your Ranger at 5 levels and take one level of Twilight Cleric . 300 feet of darkvision and the spell Faerie Fire . If you have Sharpshooter or an Oath bow you can be shooting in the dark from 300 feet away ignoring up to 3/4 cover . I am not sure if there are any creatures with darkvision , devil sight , tremor sense etc out to 300 feet .

    Couple of corrections:
    Going first in combat isn't an auto crit. Auto crit only occurs if the opponent was surprised.
    Hunters mark and favoured enemy don't stack.
    If you want a character that does as much damage as possible on the first round, then I would probably go fighter/gloomstalker. Fighter can allow you you to action surge and if done on the first turn, you get to have the extra gloomstalker again. So even at level 5 with 3gloom/2fighter, you get a total of 4 attacks. 2 more levels to get extra attack, and you'll be able to attack 6 times round 1.

    • @gregbanks5624
      @gregbanks5624 2 года назад

      I think he was referring to the Assassin's ability to auto crit when the the target is surprised and hasn't acted in its turn yet

      @@gregbanks5624 attacking someone before they go in first round of combat as an assassin only gives you advantage on that enemy.(which means if the attack hits then sneak attack is applied)
      it DOES NOT also make it an auto-crit if it hits. its an auto crit only if theyre surprised when you hit them.
      also elven accuracy costs an asi because its a feat

    Ranger subclass Hunter with 3rd level ability Giant killer lets you sneak attack as a reaction, a great dip for rogues, you'll be melee of course, in half plate with a shield and Zephyr strike spell and dueling or defense styles. Ignore the first round surprise shenanigans as with your reactions you'll be doing more sneak attacks through the adventuring day and can choose a more interesting rogue subclass. But yes, ranged is fun.

    Am playing an aberrant mind sorcerer with the plan of focusing on telekinesis type spells, or things that can be flavored that way, like Reverse Gravity. I really am not a fan of the upper level subclass/class features. Have considered hexblade (don't want to step on the warlock), soul knife, psi knight, and maybe bard? Suggestions?

  • @YourBoyNobody530
    @YourBoyNobody530 2 года назад +2

    One of my favorite builds is a arcane trickster/blade singer multi class. It does a lot of damage with shadow blade, booming blade, and sneak attack basically guarantees advantage with access to familiars and shadow blade and has very high AC with blade song shield and mage armor. You also have access to a lot of utility with a good amount of spell slots and your a rogue so skills are aplenty.

    • @YourBoyNobody530

      You can also swap blade singer for other wizard subclasses like chronergist, enchantment, illusion, divination, or war magic for differing effects.

      Or, they can tailor it however they wish, and when they do, give a caveat. If you think you can do better, then do better. Going by RAW is retarded anyway, because the DMG literally says "these rules are guidelines, not laws"

    Is there any way we can get an actual level by level build guide for this along with, exact stats with point buy, and when and where which skill proficiencies should be chosen? It's a long road to level 20, and I for one would like to know (or see on paper) each step to be taken along the way to keep this build at its maximum damage output whether you're at level 5, 12, or 17.

    Now add some fighter(Champion) levels for extra attacks and action surge, elven accuracy, like rogue/4 ranger/4 fighter/12 for 8 crit hits, you got like 300 damage without the magic stuff

    • @Finnssssss
      @Finnssssss 2 года назад

      This or same build in video with just 3 Champion instead of Bard in the second option. Going 12 Champion though gets u the same bonus to initiative with Remarkable Athlete at level 7 as you would get from Bard Jack of all Trades and of course crits on a 19-20.
      Regardless, it's all about Action Surge with Dread Ambusher. On that first round, RAW, with Action Surge you actually get your Dread Ambusher extra attack twice as you are taking the Attack option twice.
