Those tickets would be worth it at twice the price - Band-Maid, close up and personal in a relatively small venue, on a tour that's been anticipated for more than two years. It will be crazy good.
As others have said, Misa predominantly uses a pick and throws in slapping whilst hiding the pick. When she does play fingerstyle she gets even groovier in my opinion, she is like them all extremely versatile and will play whatever she feels adds value to the songs. Their versatility is just one of the things that makes them so listenable and makes me feel about rock like I did when I enjoyed certain other great bands from the 60's and 70's.
"Manners" & "Black Hole", the perfect balance between equilibrium & chaos :)
I'm ok with "black hole" equilibrium but calling "manners" chaos... nah ;-)
@@pema22 Haha. Wait till he hears the thrashiness of "Big Dad".😏
Ain't that the truth..
Get the tickets.
Now.
As I was getting into BAND-MAID they were touring the US, and I missed them in NY. I thought, "That's a bummer, but they swing through the states once a year, at least. I'll catch them again soon enough." That was 2019. I think we all know what happened after that. By the time the new tour starts, it will have been THREE YEARS since they have been to the US.
Get the tickets now.
It's so fun watching new reactors go "OH MY GOD" in the first couple minutes and thinking, "Heehee, just wait."
Great reaction, Rossta! Actually Misa is using pick a lot. She mastered a pick-hiding (under her index finger) technique, so she can switch from picking to popping/slapping and back to picking in a blink of an eye. Misa use any technique, including tapping, whatever suits the song she plays without clinging to any "unbreakable" rules.
There’s 2 ways to play bass… Misa’s way and the wrong way. If she’s this good, while breaking all the so-called “rules of playing bass” then those rules are obviously ridiculous.
@@interstellardave I'd say: there is the right way to play bass, the wrong way and the way of MISA a.k.a. the Barefoot Assassin's way - Zen of bass guitar.
do whatever as long as it sounds good 👌🏽
Check out live version of. Play, freedom and instrumental onset live
There are bassists whom some reactors say sounds like Misa, what they don't realise is that it's only when they slap.
Finallly someone who rewinds SAIKI'S little Growls🤍🤍🤍. Love your reactions... please keep on doing it. If you like BLACKHOLE.. you will love Moratorium too😄
"I can't help but smile". Same for most of us maidiacs! You could think it's close to Pavlov's dog in a way: we see Band-Maid live, we smile, but it's not conditioning, it's genuine joy.
I don’t Smile. Because, sei don’t come to Hamburg Seth hier! 😭

You are not the first reviewer that I have heard reference math rock in their playing. Kanami, the lead guitarist has an economics degree which I'm sure involves all kind of higher math skills. From what I read she attended university at the request of here parents, after that, well I'm extremely glad she chose to play the guitar for a profession.
Everyone talks about 220 BPM and this song. I didn't even know it was possible to have that many Bonnets Per Minute!
They are the genre of thier own the diversity ,dynamics and transition they have makes them unique
I think you would like the MV of 'Rinne' (Reincarnation) as you like the heavier sound. Also 'Blooming' might be up your alley too!
Regarding 'Black Hole'. Its their fastest song (so far). Kanami (Lead guitar & composer) asked Akane how fast she could drum. Akane said around 190 bpm. So Kanami wrote Black Hole at 220 bpm! Then Akane went to work on the drum patterns for the song. She came up with 7 choices which she labelled
1. Easy
2. Comfortable
3. Normal
4. Possible if I work hard
5. Tough
6. Painful
7. Hell
The band chose Hell.
Your're wrong kawai Davey, i think he'll LOVE the MV of "Rinne".😁 (Disclaimer : Gary Holloway did not make up the nickname kawai Davey, someone else did ).
@@GaryHolloway-810 I'm sure he will love it! It can get tiring explaining the 8mm thing though! Never mind passing the blame you!
@@Davey-Boyd What could i do.🤷♂️ I can't take credit for something i didn't do....but wished i had.😆
BLACK-HOLE is my favorite song by BAND-MAID. Great reaction! 🤘😎🤘
Misa does use a pick but she alternates the playing style through the songs depending on the sound and tone that's called for. She's a master of the changeup.
Lead guitar and main composer is Tono Kanami: 遠乃 歌波 where Kanami (歌波) means "song wave" (歌 = "song" and 波 = "wave")
Rhythm guitar and lyricist is Kobato Miku: 小鳩 ミク where Kobato (小鳩) means "small pigeon" (小 = "small" and 鳩 ="pigeon"
Between MISA on bass and Akane on drums, this is one of the tightest and most versatile rhythm sections around. You want to groove? They can do that. You want jazz? Easy. You want funk? No problem. You want to head bang? They can definitely do that. They have great feel and a sense of style; they support the singer and guitars so unselfishly. Someone yesterday said something like "If you think what you're hearing is standard and normal, keep listening." They're almost always doing something really clever and inventive in the background.
BLACK HOLE=Astronomers national anthem!!!! and MISA was walking her bass through Manners and jogging through BLACK HOLE. LOL
To see Misa's pick hiding, Watch her solo in the song "Onset" live. Keep the great reactions coming
BAND-MAID, LOVEBITES, NEMOPHILA, HANABIE, ASTERISM, TRIDENT-JAPAN all this bands will make your jaw dropped, check them out bro....
Great reaction ! You should watch 'Onset' it is an instrumental and you can see Misa switch from pick to slap during her solo. Black Hole is their fastest to date at 220 bpm but we believe there is a faster one in Kanami's head she just has to persuade Akane !
Onset, Without Holding Back, Rinne, The Non Fiction Days, Don't Let Me Down (have lyrics up and ready), Don't You Tell Me live (trio battle), Real Existence, Thrill..
That should keep you busy til August. After than, only about 90 more songs to go.
On the album version of BLACKHOLE, Akane's kick drum sounds like fucking cannons.

As for the ladies playing anything, Akane - the drummer, MISA - the bassist, Kanami - Lead Guitarist all started playing piano when they were children. MISA added Guitar and Bass in high school, Akane added Trombone then drum in high school, Kanami went from piano to guitar in high school and has only been playing guitar for about 12-13 years. Miku and Saiki, neither could play an instrument other than their voices when they joined the band. Kanami has taught Miku how to play guitar and she is now one of the best rhythm guitarists in rock currently. Kanami has also been teaching Saiki guitar and piano, Saiki is also taking further instruction from Kanami's guitar tech according to a comment I read on Instagram.
Kanami writes 90-95% of Band Maid's music, Miku writes 90% of the lyrics Saiki the other 10%.
The Band Maid song writing process. Kanami sits down, usually at the piano and writes out the basic song. She then takes that and using her computer adds in the basic bass and drum line and send it to Akane and MISA, who change it to where they feel it should be. They send it back to Kanami, and she massages it some more, sometimes sending it back and forth a few times to get it where she wants it. Once it is finished, Kanami sends it to Miku who listens to it, and she decides the "Theme" of the song and writes the lyrics. For the most part there is no set way of Miku writing lyrics, she doesn't go to Kanami and say "Write me a song about this" she takes what Kanami gives her and feels how the music is and then writes the lyrics. On occasion though Saiki will tell Kanami to "Write me a song like _____" and Kanami will do so. Once Miku has her rough lyrics she will sometimes ask Saiki to take a look and see if she has any suggestions or changes and if she does those will be worked in.
Once they have the music and the lyrics, they go into the studio and work out the final touches to mesh everything together into the sound which is Band-Maid.
I recommend listening to the Black Hole official MV because the drummer's "footwork" is not well mixed here
Seriuosly, you can't miss with these ladies. Everything is different, but it all sounds, somehow, like Band-Maid. They're all brilliant, as you'll see. Since you mentioned "Math Rock", I'll toss another suggestion to you: The band: Sokoninaru. The song (to start): "Tenohira De Odoru". Another mind-blowingly great band. Thanks, man! 🕊
I don't always listen to math rock, but when I do...I listen to Sokoninaru a lot 😁
@@stevehall5128 Hahaha! Exactly!
After seeing your One OK Rock reactions, I cannot WAIT for you you to react to some of their ballads. Daydreaming and About Us especially. Great reaction as always!!!
Watch RINNE and NO GOD for some things that will definitely satisfy your metal cravings.
Both those songs belong to MISA. Of course the other Maids are exceptional. But it all starts with the writing. Kanami is a genius. She really stretches the norms of musical theory.
It takes a few seconds to realign the senses at the end of Black Hole. Stay with them man. There are more real gems to discover yet. The Maids just keep producing.
Their slow acoustic versions of some of their songs will astound you. cheers.
MISA! MISA! MISA! She can pick, slap, tap, and play fingerstyle. You would probably like Rinne or Warning (official music videos) since you prefer their harder music. They can also slow it down even more, in fact, last Christmas they did an online acoustic concert. They also have an alter ego called BAND-MAIKO with a different esthetic.
Band-Maid Secret My Lips and Band-Maiko Secret Maiko Lips is a popular back to back.
I hope Misa keeps up her progression on the bass and becomes the greatest of all time. That would be sweet.
Loved the intro about live vs. videos.
You have a long way to go..; :) I see you really like Saiki, do an acoustic... She will blow you away..
Regarding Black Hole Konami came to Akane and asked her what the highest BPM that she had drummed to. They then bumped it up a bit because Akane wanted a challenge! Also keep a close eye on Saiki's eyes!!
Warning MV is a fast paced hard rock song you might like. Different MV (better than live) and Corallium (no official MV but it is in a playlist on their channel) are probably the songs closest to Black Hole in terms of manic energy.
Thanks so much great reaction!
The most beautiful and amazing band on the planet!!!!!
Nice… another knowledgeable musician has become a Band Maid fan. You’ve got my subscription! Live is best, but a tremendous song you need to check out is Blooming, for which there’s no live video on RUclips. The music video is cool, though, and the song is amazing.
Main Vocal - saiki
Rhytm G/ Back. Vo - miku kobato/ kuruppo
Lead guitar - Kanamincho
Bassist - Misa
I wish they’ll play Black Hole in Aftershock in October! Add to this Puzzle and Moratorium, and this will be epic! End up,with Onset and Daydreaming.
Thanks RosstaFloss!
Great reaction Mr Floss. As an FYI, Manners was the 9th song of this 2+ hour streamed concert and they had the stamina and trust in each other to make the wildly manic Black Hole the 21st and next to last song. For the Awesome BAND-MAID, nothing is out of reach or off the board. Peace. 4.15 p.s. Band-Maid is the only current band I'd go all out to see live.
I agree very contrasting songs, but they can do it all at a very high level. Both of these songs are from the latest album, there are many more songs to listen to. Try Rinne MV and Real Existence Live ... harder to get the video by track down Moratorium as well. Thanks for the reaction!
Akane’s stabs to accent the vocals were fantastic.
Great reaction. Manners is just straight up solid rock song with a groovy vibe. The live version is so good with the drums/bass intro and the vocals are much richer. Black Hole, on the other hand, is hard, heavy, frenetic craziness. Honestly, Black Hole is a bit overwhelming, as I feel mentally & emotionally drained listening to it. I wouldn’t waste my time, the recorded versions are great, but the live versions are very similar and are actually better. Concert prices are so high these days, I would jump on those tickets. Getting to the the maids in a small venue will be great.
There aren't any videos for it but I think their song Giovanni is a masterpiece of chaos. Certainly Black Hole is among my favorites. But Giovanni has such driving structure to its chaos. It's uncanny how they wrote this song. As writers, they had to be all in sync with the vision for Giovanni.
DUDE! I had no idea you started uploading again, great to see you back man!
Great reaction. Much appreciated.
OK maidiac we need more reactions from u , we demand it
Here are some suggestions of songs similar to Black Hole. None of them have official videos unfortunately:
H-G-K: Has a similar dissonance
Screaming: Is their 2nd fastest song
Corallium: Has the controlled chaos.
Should be noted that while HGK and Corallium don't have videos, the studio audio is on their channel under playlists.
WARNING! It's bad MANNERS to stop listening to Band-Maid because you'll feel starved for musical excellence and joy and fall into a BLACK HOLE of emptiness... probably! 😵 Thx, Ross!
MISA uses a pick most of the time. You just have to be quick to catch it. She tucks it into her palm with her finger when she Slaps! Kanami (lead guitar) almost never sings. She does the chant on 'Clang' and she sings Miku's part on the acoustic version of 'Puzzle'. About the only time you'll ever hear MISA sing is in the BAND-MIKO songs, 'Gion Cho' and 'Secret Maiko Lips'. But, if you want to hear some Double Bass, check out their Thrash Metal influenced song, 'Rinne'.
You will probably dig almost the entire tracks on Unseen World album. Sense single is also great.
You'd probably like Rinne and Puzzle (live, not acoustic) -- also Giovanni (available on YT in audio only). All these tend toward the heavier end of their range. But after you watch Puzzle live, look for Puzzle acoustic (if you can find it) and compare it with Puzzle live.
Kanami is the name you need to learn: ace lead guitarist and -- most importantly -- the musical genius that writes most of Band-Maid's songs and instrumentals -- including Black Hole.
Manners is like the best of 70s hard rock. Black Hole is uncategorizeable 😁
I could never understand why some reactors as soon as they start the reaction they bust out the water bottle, and take sips ALL the time. Why?
Just hydrate before the reaction then the viewers won't lose their shit if you miss a small detail because you took a sip of water. Just sayin.
Otherwise, ya, this band is the real deal. Love them.
I suggest the song Different by Band-Maid. It one of my favorite songs by them.
Unfortunately the more recent live videos are during covid so it’s online concert which means they don’t have crowds.
Great reaction, glad to see you got back to Band Maid. Would love to hear your opinion on Isyana Sarasvati prog-rock classical style, here is the link to her recent single lyric video ruclips.net/video/D_tBBioIyow/видео.html
Thank you Akbar! Will definitely check this out soon! :)
Listen to a song 5 times, each time focusing on one performer, and you will discover something different that you missed each time.
Edit: Kanami, lead guitar, Writes the music. Akane is on drums Miku, Lyrics and rhythm guitar, formed the band and she was taught how to play guitar by Kanami. Enjoy the discovery.
MISA MISA MISA!
I will toss out a suggestion ehre for you since you like the heavier stuff "Rinne", but you want the MV and NOT the live for "RInne"
You will like the MV of Rinne if you like heavy.
