In 2013, Miku (2nd vocalist, rhythm guitar) started the band. She had some experience as a member of an underground idol group. Having worked at two maid cafes in Japan, she thought the combination of cute maid outfits with rock music would be interesting, so she contacted a talent management company with her idea. With the help of the agency, she began the search for a guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer, with Miku intending to be the lead vocalist. The first potential member they recruited was lead guitarist Kanami, who Miku discovered on a Japanese video sharing site (Nicovideo iirc). She immediately agreed to join. She knew a drummer (Akane) who was in need of a new band, who in turn knew a bassist from music school (MISA) who's band just happened to be breaking up at the time. After rehersing together a few times, Miku came to realize that her voice was too "bright" to be the sole vocalist for the music they wanted to play, so they decided to recruit another vocalist to fill out their sound. Saiki was already with the same agency, so she was invited to audition (without telling her about the maid outfits). She wasn't thrilled about the outfits at first, but she agreed to join the band and thus Band-Maid was born. Management wanted one of the vocalists to have a guitar just for appearance, and since Saiki didn't wNt to do it, Miku agreed to get a guitar. She learned to play on the job under lead guitarist Kanami and eventually became an incredible rhythm guitarist. That's the short version of how they came to be the band we know today.

Someone did put them together - It was Miku the second vocalist/rhythm guitarist. Miku found Kanami (lead guitarist) online. Kanami knew Akane the drummer. Akane knew MISA the bassist. Miku was originally lead singer but took a step back and they brought in Saiki when Miku found her voice not powerful enough for what they wanted to play. Saiki was already signed to the same management company as Miku, that's how they found her. The rest is history. They are currently celebrating their 10th anniversary and on tour in the US.

Short story of the Band. Miku went to her management company with the idea of a band of maids that played rock. Miku found Kanami's covers on RUclips and elsewhere and was invited to join the project. Kanami knew Akane from highschool and had used her as her support drummer on her gigs, Akane joined. Akane was a close friend of Misa who she had attended music school with, Misa joined. They practised together for around a month and Miku decided her voice wasn't strong enough so they asked the management company for suggestions for another singer, Saiki joined. Miku then was persuaded that she needed to learn guitar under Kanami's tutelege, despite the initial struggles she had she stuck with it and became a stonking good rhythm player whilst carrying out her duties as a second vocalist. She is also the lyricist of the band.

Actually, Manners/Black Hole are two different songs. The band plays the two song separately in recent concerts. You guys need to get to one of their concerts. They are touring the U.S. right now and they will come back in August.

They are 2 songs , both off Unseen World but not back to back. There were 2 in this video as it was done for Jlod live during covid when artists were getting government support during covid. I believe one of the requirements was that it had to be a minimum of 5 minutes. There is another Different / Dice I think.

"Manners" and "Black Hole" are two separate songs. They were simply released together here as a single music video. They are performed separately in concerts. But they work well together because of the funky groovy "Manners", followed by the frantic chaos of "Black Hole". The contrast shows off Band-Maid's range.

Glad to see you return to Band-Maid. Manners and Black Hole are separate songs, just done together here. For me the star of the band is their bassist Misa, but all are great musicians. For me the best drummer in Japanese rock/metal is Haruna of Lovebites. You guys have done six Band-Maid songs if my search is right. I urge you go back to Lovebites, where you were blown away by the only song you've done by them. I'd recommend Lovebites The Awakening /The Hammer Of Wrath Live

I just saw them in Detroit on May 24th. Very much a hard rock concert. They play hard for 2 hours. About halfway through they have Miku's Magic Time where the band interacts with the audience. Miku may be the most adorable maniac on planet earth. This is their 10th anniversary tour. Their returning home soon, but will return to the USA in August. I highly recommend you see them live if possible. One of the many reasons I love them is that the band was formed "organically". No Simon Cowell type studio exec type involved. Great reaction guys. Looking forward to the next one

It is 2 songs. Watch the MV for 'Manners'. But they are now in the U.S. on their 10th anniversary tour. It formed organically. When Miku quit being a Maid in a Cafe' she found Kanami through her Internet Videos. Kanami worked with Akane before and proposed her as the drummer. Akane knew MISA from their time at together at Tokyo Music School and had stayed in touch afterwards. It was decided that Kiku's voice wasn't quite strong enough for the hard rocking band she envision to juxtapose them Maid Look, and she had always wanted dual vocals. Luckily Saiki worked for the same agency as the band. So Miku dropped back to a supporting vocal role and Kanami taught her how to play Rhythm Guitar. If you watch their very first Music Video, she's holding the guitar as a prop more than playing it. But, in addition to that, she is also the lyricist and band spokes pigeon. That's a whole other story.
