Payaso, el Dios De La Destrucción I like antiheros as well. In fact some of my favorite characters are antiheros. However at the same time I think the traditional hero still has a place in the modern world. However even if a charecter is a figure fights for the overall good of humanity it's still important to show them have moments of selfishness and flaws to make feel like good people but people non the less. For example Gandhi probably had moments where he was a total asshole but overall he represented some of the humanities best qualities . not every charcter needs to be tragic hero like a Hamlet Macbeth, or Walter White sometimes it's good just to have a hero. Someone who represents alot of the higest ideals that humanity has to offer. I like charecters who explore some of the darker side of humanity but at the same time it's also important to explore the more postive side of humanity.

But sometimes you get "Wolverine Origins" because it's assumed by production that people just want to see the claws. And I believe that they made the same mistake with Superman, curbing the character to try and reach a specific target audience, rather than just making a Superman movie. Producers may be assuming that people only like Wolverine because, claws are cool, so they think they're following suit by giving Superman "claws." Making him all broody and not at all Superman-like lol.

There was a fine line between Anti-Hero and a straight up Villain, and i find that some movies are starting to cross over. Instead of a movie centered around an Anti-Hero, it's just a movie that is from the side of a straight up Villain and expects us to root for them because the movies about them. Suicide Squad is the obvious example, they continuously tell us "these people are the bad guys!" and you just don't care about anyone, and by the end, you just root for Will Smith. Not Deadshot, just Will Smith.
But i watch a lot of Garbage on netflix, and a lot of the movies are like "this is a bad guy, doing bad things, he doesn't learn a lesson, he gets no comeuppance, he hardly grows if not at all." And if they try to add some character to the person, the audience is told, and not shown. But hey, that is just me, maybe other people like to watch that sort of thing.

Heroes are defined in literature as having a flaw. Heroes aren't perfect, they have a challenge or conflict that they must overcome.
An anti-hero is littered with flaws. It's where they are redeemed in our eyes that allows them to function in the story.
Looking at the comments below, I can see people missed out on this lesson.

I feel like Heroes have taken a decline with popular culture because of our preconceived notions of what a hero is. For the most part we believe them to be these big chinned, blond hair muscle bound meat heads that fight for good. But I think what makes a hero great is their unwavering determination to fight for what's right. The problem with making a good hero comes in the villain or the odds they face. The hero always has to be the underdog or at the very least, have his morals constantly tested.
The problem with today's media culture is that so many directors like to make their heroes more relatable and realistic so they go ahead and have them break their morals or turn evil or give up on their crusade. But I think that's a bunch of baloney, when you have a character who, against all odds, doesn't break; you create someone for the people to root for. When you try to make them more relatable by having them break their morals they feel like a letdown, like you've watched them go all this way just to fail. But heroes aren't meant to be relatable, that's why they're heroes.
No one great came out of a situation where they didn't face any sort of strife. Every great hero faces conflict and odds. And it's only when they come out on top, when they saved the day despite what they faced, that they truly become the heroes that we deserve.

Cotton Hill, Dayle Gribble, Huey Freeman, Major from Ghost In A Shell, Charlie Harper have become so relatable that they are so close to actual human beings. It’s even to the point that some anti hero’s think they need to keep up apperences, or have a certain persona, put on a show or even do what they have to do; this could be what other people expect, other people/characters part of the book, film, anime, video game, comic-book, cartoon expect from them as well. I think heroes in the classical way can still be relevant, absolutely. However, that needs to be a character trait for them. Wonder Woman for example that I watched recently is a classical hero, who puts herself in front of others when a danger comes, who believes in ideals, and respects others. That is a character trait, but it's also a flaw, as her absolute idealism turns off the possibility for grey areas where anti heroes live in. But that's who she is, and will do things for the greater good. The Punisher on the other hand does what he does in his mind for the greater good, but he doesn't act selflessly, his whole mission came from personal reasons and it makes him feel better when he kills criminals, and that can be seen by the brutality he kills some instead of just killing them fast. That's his character trait. Both these characters are interesting in their own respect, if done well. As long as the character has something to learn and some philosophy, are not absolutely powerful and have flaws and problems they can't go through easily, they will be interesting. I also think that the more we move away from classical heroes, the more they will start becoming interesting again. As much as I prefer anti heroes, Wonder Woman was a bit of a fresh breath, as it was about a genuinely good person who wanted to help people. Simple, but effective, and just made me realize that this has become a rarity lately.

Alexander Angelus I definitely agree with this.
If the tv producers shoehorn Anti Heroes just because it’s the trend one day it will be boring and people will go back to check the traditional hero. I don’t want Anti Heroes to go away and disappear completely but it’s just i think there should be a balance and I agree with you there can be very interesting heroes it’s just about writing them well.
I think IronMan is a great example of it. He is clearly a good guy with really good intentions, does he have some flaws sure. He can act like a diva sometimes but it’s clear his priorities of just having a good time changed once he escaped from that cave where was kidnapped.
Actually Heroes who change their priorities and go through an arc from selfish to selfless are as interesting as Anti Heroes. actually they are some of the best like IronMan and Oscar Schindler from Schindler’s list who was a real life hero.
Mmm that film should have kept the name of the book it was based on which was named Schindler’s arc it was much more suitable.
Though the big difference is IronMan changed because he was almost death meanwhile Schindler in Schindler’s list changed his motives when he saw a young girl die.
But at the end it’s really good to see a story of a hero who makes a big change in his life because of something they experienced .

A character idea I have for a story similar to the plot of "Taken". These are the main characteristics I have:
"Pros": wants to break up a prostitution ring to save his girl, will break it up completely even after he saves her & gets her to safety, has considerable wealth, time, and resources to help rehabilitate those who accept his help, is not interested in physically hurting those who oppose him in excess unless it's necessary, defends those who need defending.
"Cons": hustled/conned people growing up & legally gambled to get his wealth once he was of-age, arrogant, quick-tempered, fights dirty in close combat, burns physical location of the underground ring after he escapes despite antagonists still inside, lectures/berates people that he defends in some manner.
On a scale of 0-100 where 0 is a pure antagonist, 50 is the "ideal" anti-hero, 100 is the "stereotypical" hero, where is my character at? I think the pros are too much for a pure anti hero but I could be wrong. Thoughts? Just part of a fun little project I'm going to do in the future.

An anti-hero is someone who is both a hero & a villain. They are right in the middle of the grey line. Anti-heroes, especially ones like Deadpool have no limits & can do whatever they want because they feel like it, they can, & they love it.

Deadpool; I have to save my girlfriend and fix my face, but i'll gleefully kill thousands to do it. Breaking bad; I have to provide for my family, but I'll sell drugs to do it. Dexter; I'm taking control of a terrible mental condition but by using it against people worse than me. Etc, etc, etc. Heroes at the end have good intentions; how they get to those ends is what separates the anti-hero from the hero.

In most media, heroes are portrayed as pure good, they fight for the greater good for themselves and everyone else without caring if they get anything in exchange for they virtues, they care for themselves and others, they save the lives of their friends, families, allies, and innocents at the cost of their own, and they always try to solve problems in the most morally correct way as possible, and because of that, they’re always reluctant to kill an an enemy or villain, and they can only kill villains in acts of self defense or as a last resort to stop them from doing evil forever and they always show remorse for having to take someone’s life, even if they’re pure evil, and that means they can never intentionally take an enemy or villain’s life, and they can’t do it out of rage or be corrupted by their anger or hatred and they can’t exact revenge, since their either going to abandon their quest for vengeance, or it may feel empty to them and not worth it, or even forgive the villain, and all their benevolence, ingenuity, and and innocence may provoke their downfall. the only differences I feel that anti heroes have good intentions are do good deeds for their own personal interests and later on learn to come through for, care for, and help others all at the cost of themselves and for the sake of others, and have a change of heart and be humbled thanks to the hero’s influence on them and even come to each other’s aid and they slowly grow as a person and a hero, and become good people with good hearts and true heroes and be willing to do what ever it takes to ensure their victory, and they use brutal and morally dubious methods due to being a victim of a horrific event, and moment and being exposed to trauma and immense hardships that will want to make them take a darker and bleaker path, and they may be violence, wrathful and unscrupulous, they firmly feel that ruthlessness, brutal methods, and killing is necessary to make a difference and real change. They might also expect things in exchanges for their virtuous actions, especially if their assassins, mercenaries, bounty hunters, hitmen, or treasure hunters, and if they’re much more focused on truth, justice, heroism, and morality, they would take anything they receive in exchange for their heroics as a bonus and use it to help others, like if they got money, they would give it to the poor and buy food, clothes, and a shelter for the homeless or give it to charity and be philanthropic, and they would also be willing to kill to exact revenge on their enemies and villains to Avenge their allies, friends, loved ones, innocents, and even other heroes killed by the villains and for the greater good so they can never hurt or kill anyone else or the hero ever again, and be very brave, compassionate, valiant, and self-sacrificing deep down, and both types of heroes have flaws that they try to overcome and heroism and morality may at first come off as tiresome or tertiary to them, but also believe in peace and saving the world, guided by their pure goals and dreams of justice and firmly believes that evil should be punished some pure goods heroes that are wrathful always try to control their anger and always feel remorse after their explosion of rage and if they want revenge they either won’t do it, see it as wrong, or after doing it immediately regret it and try to atone for it and they always try to be pleasant, selfless, incorruptible, forgiving, not killing, have their actions speak louder than their words, always act naive, and only be lawful, chaotic, or neutral good because of their moral alignment and some of them even make death threats to their enemies and have the potential to kill but they don’t, but they might have to protect themselves or others. Also, are all pure good heroes really always and will be that much better than the antiheroes because they make the harder the decision of not getting angry and wanting revenge and choosing not to kill, but the antiheroes choose to cross the line, which one of them is truly better, and which truly makes the harder decisions that makes them better than the other? And how would media and pop culture be like if the heroes and villains were firmly divided into good and evil were all the heroes are pure good and all the villains and pure evil, there are no antiheroes or anti-villains, and there are no other types, there’s no chaotic good, no lawful evil, no lawful neutral, no chaotic neutral, and there’s no true neutral, all the heroes fight the villains and never kill, all the villains kill all the time , and it’s just an infinite cycle, the heroes never turn evil, and the villains never turn good, nothing ever changes, what would that be like and who would ever want it?

    Hurting
    Murderous yet Sympathetic
    Angsty

    Obsessive- esp if in love
    Intellectually superior
    Lonely
    Irresistible.
Devastatingly good looking (albeit in an unconventional way) with soulful eyes-Unless wearing a mask which is often the case but even the mask draws one in
-sounds more like a Byronic hero. Examples of Byronic heroes include:
    The Vampire Lestat
    Mordred
    The Vampire Louis
    Loki
    Heathcliffe from Wuthering Heights
    Bucky Barnes
    Prince Zuko
    Raistlin Majere From D&D
    Bram Stoker’s Dracula
    The Phantom
Feanor, Meadhros, Maglor from the Silmarillion
    Jaime Lannister and Jon Snow
    Sawyer from Lost
    V from V for Vendetta
    Captain Jack Sparrow
    Wolverine and Deadpool
    Lancelot
    Magneto
    Erik Draven from The Crow
    Severus Snape
    Anakin Skywalker (not Vader)
    The Punisher
Edmund Dantes from the Count of Monte Cristo
Queen Elsa - only female on list
    Dorian Grey
The Goblin King from The Labrynth
    Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre
    - women LOVE Byronic heroes. You can thank the Ancient Greeks and Lord Byron for coining the term. Their emotionality sets them apart from anti heroes and this tends to make most hetero males uncomfortable whereas anti heroes don’t- even though males DO admit there’s something about these broken bad boys that draw women in. This group can collectively be called, ‘Bad Boys and the Women who Love Them.’

My favorite anti-hero is Wurner von Braun from the Manhattan Projects (the Image Comics one) He's bitter, hate filled, and cares little for others (not just because he's a Nazi) but we do get to, if not sympatize with, understand him. The reason for his demeanor is that he has a deep desire to get him some sweet intergalactic travel while the gettin's hot, go down in history as one of therevolutionary rocket ship engineers, and he'll do anything and screw over anyone who'll deny him that oppurtunity, Later on in the series he gets a *little* development as a character (he becomes a pretty good bro to Yuri Gaggarin. Yes he's also in this.), but even if that were not included, he would still be the model for a good antihero.

    Anti-Heros:
The Villian who had hated hero and has a agressive behaviour, teams up with hero to fight crime/villains
    Example: Loki, Venom

heroes were never really more popular than antiheroes. Look at Oedipus, Odysseus, Prometeus, etc.
ironically, maybe with the exception of the dark ages...

Superman is definitely darker now, in new 52 and new animated movies he would have maybe killed both Batman and Green lantern then he goes a lot more out on villains, when the DCEU Superman was brought back he attacked the other JL members, sure it was because Cyborg's defense mechanism saw him as a danger, but you did see how he whaled on them all even both WonderWoman and Batman, he could have killed a cop by accident when attacking Cyborg with his heat vision and then even despite Batman saying they need him, superman replied "but we don't need you.....do you bleed?" This is all after they helped each other to fight Doomsday

The irony is Captain America is when you think about it a anti hero himself. He went against SHIELD and Iron Man during the Civil War story line and as a soldier he's willing to kill to get the job done. He just has stronger morals than most anti heroes. He's an anti hero that's willing to do what he has to, to defend his moral views. I've never really looked at him as a traditional hero but as a soldier with basic morals that will raise hell to fight for what he believes.
Now speaking as a writer I don't really like labels as corny as that may sound I don't think of my characters as heroes or villains I don't even use the word anti-villain I see the characters I write as just people doing what they feel is normal I mean if you go by traditional standards my main characters that I right are definitely villains.

I really hate the movie Captain United States, at least in the comics he have a legitimate reason to go against Iron Man, but in the movie is only to protect the stupid U. S. exepcionalism.

What about Jonah Hex, the comic equivalent to The man with no name who brought the darkness to the all american western stories? And most important, where's Deadpool's big brother Lobo? He's a helluva antihero!

LOL! Heroes in fiction are not meant to be relatable, anyways. Why? because they're completely fictional.
I don't understand why anybody needs to relate towards a fictional character that doesn't exist in real life?
When i hear people say that"this character is not relatable"
And my response was" yeah, but relatable for whom?", because relatability is a very vague term, though.
This character may not be relatable to some people, but definitely relatable towards others.
You're not supposed to relate towards a fictional character.......you're supposed to immerse yourself in a world that you wish to be.
People are trying to relatability as if it's a objective thing, but in reality, it's not.

The Anti-Hero’s is the greatest figure for both Men & Woman that all feel more realistic and relatable then the so call “Hero”. Like quote “Not all Hero’s who wear white are Good!”

Basically sums up Robin/Jason in Under the Red Hood. He doesn't take them in, he does what Batman doesn't and takes them out!

    • @alexanderdixson9956
      @alexanderdixson9956 Год назад

That about sums everything up, he does what Batman won’t, if Batman won’t kill them, then red hood definitely will
