The kkk was founded in Tennessee. Just a historical fact, not a source of pride.
i live in Tennessee, what up peter
Thank you for bringing good content and showing People the truth on most topics media won't even touch.
Hey Peter, the next time you come to Atlanta, look me up. The Grill Warrior will take you around to the best BBQ joints in Atlanta. BBQ is my specialty. I am a certified BBQ judge and a pro-class competitive BBQ champion. Love your videos..
I travel there frequently and for the most part It’s good people, but with any large city…You need to know where you are or be with folks that do…Real Talk. Forever Vigilant 🇺🇸🙏🏼😎
"Stop being afraid to be yourself" Nice one!
Straight Fact's on that One 💯.
I liked everything that guy said.
Shout out University of Arkansas! GO HOGS
That guy is elevated through experience, that's how this life works.. We grow wise through pain and humbling experiences. We grow strong too. People that hide in comfort don't develop. Much respect and love.
He’s spot on. He knows what people need. Not what the media try to say they want.
I went to Atlanta some years ago and visited every part from rich to poor and everything in-between. I'm a bald headed white dude from Oklahoma and I got nothing but Love from everyone I encountered. Love Atlanta!
Nice!

@@MrApplesaucestuff it kinda matters to a lot of people, in a lot of places. The comment in question states that it didn't matter in Atlanta.

Wow. Kodakk is seriously a role model. Guy is insanely emotionally intelligent and aware. Huge shoutout to him for being so welcoming and enthusiastic about showing you around!
Peter comes off as such a normal suburban dude but his comfort and positivity with everyone and everywhere is beyond normal lol. I love it
Peter is so sick man. I’ve learnt literally so much about the states through his documentaries. Keep doing your thing bro 👊🏽

I would like to thank Kodak for being a good representative of the culture. He articulated himself well and didn't let this become a mockery of all struggles and shortcomings 💪🏾
Kodakk is a Doll!! He was a great tour guide - so much knowledge & swag!! Such an incredibly astute young man! As well - the young man that had been shot & went through so much - he is so wise for his age as a result - I loved hearing what he had to share. And thank you to sweet Gutta for taking us around! One Love Everybody ♥
Lived in and around the ATL for 51 years. Thank God there is more good than bad and it’s nestled in beautiful forests and farmland.
I love the way he articulated his perspective on life, this is why you cant judge a book by its cover. He hads locs, gold teeth and he is INTELLIGENT. Everything he mentioned about life, even the most simple things is so TRUE.
The shotgun homes were not slaves homes. That's the Sweet Auburn area and residential structures weren't built until post Civil War. It is an historical area though and one of the first centers of black wealth in Atlanta post Reconstruction.
Thank you for saying this.
Those were not shotgun houses
Dead wrong 😑
@@jerrellbrewer5114 Arnt shotgun homes alot smaller? I thought the slag word shotgun homes came from where you can open the front door and shoot right through the house, then out the back door. If im wrong that I would like to know the real meaning of the term.

That "STOP BEING AFRAID TO BE YOUR MF SELF" hit hard! ❤ Gave me tears! Love yourself and who you are! Anyone don't like it , remove them from your circle...
A “shotgun house” is a narrow home that doesn’t have hallways. The term comes from people saying you could shoot a bullet from the front door to the back door without hitting anything else. It’s not necessarily a “slave” home. It’s a style of house.
Thank you! I was coming to say this too. And you don’t have to worry about the houses being torn down like he was thinking. Those are owned by the National Parks Service along with every house right there near MLK’s home to maintain the look of that block.
Also, the reason they're built like that is because of an odd quirk of colonial-French property-tax. Basically, instead of being charged tax relative to the square area of a house, it instead charged in relation to the amount of house that faced the street.
I was going to say the same thing.
He's got the gift of gab...Fake it til you make it.
Houses in the south were designed that way so air would flow from the front to the back of the house cooling the rooms in between with the breeze.
Respect these young brothers for being outstanding tour guides with an amazing perspective

Kodakk and Gutta did a great job as tour guides - Kodakk is definitely passionate about the good and historical sides to the city and that´s important when it comes to showing Black people in the media - there´s so much to talk about other than gangs and crime.
Do they work? Or sell drugs only?
Kodakk and gutta remind me of the nice folks who gave me the same warm country hospitality when I moved there. This city has tons of passion and loves to show it
their grotesque lifestyle includes collecting welfare and fraud.
@@stavroslask1292 lmao boy I work! Creative director no drugs sold 😂
@@AtlantaHoodHistorian He’s been spending too much time on those sites bankrolled by the elite to keep the races divided and to keep them rich.
Your ethnographic approach to these interviews only restores my faith that MSM is overplaying the division card. All factors aside, Peter shows us people see people. Such pure interactions. Thank you for your work
Kodakk is right about companies moving down south from California. In San Francisco an $800K home is a shack. In Atlanta an $800K home is a luxury home in a gated community. 2 to 3 times the size of a home in San Francisco. Thank you for sharing Peter.
Facts.
San Fran rent and ATL pay
As usual Californians be ruining everything
Absolutely!!! In some areas of GA and AL, you can spend $250K and get a super large, nice home with a lot of acreage. But, it sucks that people moving in drive the prices up for the locals. I believe it should be like college tuition, if you’re coming from out of state, rent or the sales price should be higher & if you’re local it should be “normal” or discounted to a degree.
@@n8turejourney a more logical idea would just be to ban people that vote blue to come to these nice suburbs 😂
Hell of an episode. Props to Kodakk, man exudes such amazing energy!
Yes!
I need some of that energy!
I Agree brother
I like how he said the kkk was just part of the history and left it at that. Straight 💯
I agree, the young brother could easily become a lobbyist for his community!! He is very knowledgeable and is committed to his city!! Respect!!
I always wanted to see Atlanta. Georgia is green and beautiful.
Hearing that young man talk about how he disregarded the gang tradition to start a fresh brotherhood with the friends who are actually there for him and them alone was inspiring.
My dad and brother remodeled the house of MLK he showed in this video. We are so honored to be a part of restoring his beautiful home!! I wish I could put a pic on here! My dad passed away now, but he was a big big part of building GA... P.s. Shot gun homes were for railroad and mill workers.(I live here and this is a good side, for sure.its definitely worse than this anywhere else)
Kodakk’s take on being happy for being alive was absolutely beautiful. I love the South. You should definitely put Nashville on your list.
Nashville is a dump. Tourist town to the max.
🙄😂
don’t do thaat.. Nashville my foot! 🙄
God bless the South!
I live in Nashville - so unless he wants to do an expose on bar owners downtown getting rich off of not paying the musicians OR the total gentrification of the City.... then it wouldn't be worth it.
Love his positive attitude...there all GREAT people in all cultures...love the work Peter!
I love Kodakk’s energy and outlook!!! He’s right, people/companies moving in to other areas is great, but not when they start tearing down buildings that have historical or cultural significance to the area. If you move into another area, you need to learn about the culture and adopt it in some way to become part (or be a partner) to the area. You’ll get more support from the community as well. I live in AL an hour from ATL & I’d love to spend an afternoon with Kodakk just talking about the South, our cultures and life philosophies. He’s really inspiring! I also loved watching you twerk with everyone!!! 😂 That was fan-frickin-tastic!!!
Good job young man (Kodakk) explaining the "other side" of Atlanta. You represented our community very well. Thank you.

Peter this was a fantastic episode. Thank you for this video. I don't know how you manage to find such interesting and knowledgable people but they truly brought a great perspective of Atlanta.

That guy around the 16 to 18 minute mark was awesome. Born and raised in Atlanta, I love my city. Thank you for doing these videos!
Statistically speaking, it makes a huge difference if people grow up in a two parent household vs. single parent household. He said it didn't make a difference which is just simply not true.
You really think that guy got a proper education?
yes it is true...because i have seen people with one parent households get further in life because of the love in the house vs the indifference and lack of love that also comes in two parent households or the violence two parent households can have.. so statistically it can be true also.. your stats are always derived by your sampling..so hence if you ask a group of soda "A" drinkers if they like soda "A" then you have legitimate stats with the yes's but you still do not have a real overview of said products love by consumers.. the same as sampling politician "Z" supporters and asking if you like politician "Z".. true stats and facts but not really.. as there are always angles when it comes to stats and opinions and beliefs and numbers and polls... so what is the truth to your comment?? it simple isnt there and simply not there... did you grow up in each situation??? nope... so how is it not true... that is just from your POV and beliefs in what you have been exposed to or what little you have dealt with in your life... others can have very different experiences that are very true vs your information or stats.. stats are just a gimmick to persuade the uneducated into a belief of what the people marketing or supporting those stats want...just propaganda to push an agenda or belief system upon others while making it seem legitimate.. and it may or may not be a truthful system..take the religions of the world and the stances each of them offer up for their legitimacy and what they deem as failures or falsehoods of the other religions and how they are or are not right... shrugs..there are no absolutes in this world when it comes to opinions as the demographics for info are always created by those administering the questions or creating the context.. stats prove me right on everything i state... so now what do we do.. i can back up everything with stats and now you also can.. who is right??? neither is the true answer..science proves this one easily or does it??? the chaos element and theory.. have a good one!! much love and respect...
No I think it would specifically be affected by what the parent/parents are like, not how many there are. If the parent doesn't bother to teach their child empathy and kindness and build on some learned intelligence then that child will be negatively impacted. Its similar to parents who are violent, aggressive and rude either to a child or Infront of them to others, that child will be impacted by that and often becomes aggressive themselves.
@@wendyHew Being raised by a single parent is fundamentally detrimental to a child's upbringing. Especially boys lacking a mature, responsible father growing up. Boys need a father figure for guidance. Doesn't really matter how great your mom did raising you, you need the male influence. Learning how to be a man is not something your mom can teach you so if you lack a dad growing up, you either become a soft momma's boy or you go off as a loose cannon and learn lessons the hard way. That's hood culture in a nutshell. None of these guys had fathers growing up and the guys they do look up to as influences and father figures on the streets didn't have fathers themselves so it's a broken cycle that just continues to repeat itself.
Obviously, having no father growing up is probably better than having a bad, abusive father growing up and same with mothers but that doesn't change the fact that the optimal upbringing for a child to do well in life is to have both a mother and a father and benefit from learning the values that both these people provide. Having generations and generations of no father figures and single motherhood is a big component as to why hood culture is the way it is and nothing ever changes for the better.
@@zazz69ed boi said sooo much but really so little. Having someone give af about you is key, now double that. Get the picture?

Only north of atl, anything south of i-20 is nasty af
You obviously don't know the southside. There are tons of nice neighborhoods south of I-20 stretching for miles and miles.
@@hellaloud9224 Your prejudices have you blind. You need to go out more. Yes, above I-20 you find more wealthier neighborhoods, but South of I-20 you find million dollar homes also. Even near the challenged areas where the guy took their guest on the Eastside have very nice neighborhoods that can rival anything you see on the north side. Where do you think Peachtree City is? The entire metro Atlanta is nice.
@@chocon8818 read before u speak bro
@@hellaloud9224 So how far north of I-20 you want to say is Atlanta, because the city itself does not go further than Buckhead, and there are many areas above I-20 that are not so nice. I see you also taking Atlanta all the way to the airport which is not Atlanta either. The Atlanta airport is not in Atlanta dude. The Atlanta Braves new stadium is not in At;anta. So cut the crap dude. People in the entire region normally just say they live in Atlanta. Bellow I-20 in the city of Atlanta we have nice areas just as beyond the City of Atlanta. I've been to ATL 2007 with a highschool exchange program from germany. We also visited the birth home of martin luther King but in the early evening. After we looked at the house our teacher told us we got 30min to walk around....so 25 white 17year old students no experience on how to act "on the streets" walked around there. I still believe it wasnt the smartest decision of our teacher...nothing happened but back then in the evening a lot of homeless and drug people were on the streets.
It was a pretty save area even in 2007, not much for teenagers to do right around there though
Sounds great lol.
Ok. The fact that this starts with matching sunglasses makes me so happy!! ❤❤
Dude I love Roca. I was watching your video and thoroughly enjoying it and then the Roca ad popped in. Your video is in line with them. No bias, just facts. Great video
The term Shotgun home actually refers to narrow long houses common in the south. The term comes from the fact that they had a long straight corridor through them so you could use a shot gun to clear the house easily.
"Actually", where did you get that? some video game or B list movie? The design has been around for a couple centuries and it's building plan used in the north and south
and dif parts of the world as well . While the term most likely emanated from the south , it had nothing to do with "clearing" a house with a shotgun.
Shotgun houses have a front door in where the hallway runs straight thru to a back door which lets the air flow through from the front to the back or vice versa-- they were built on skinny lots that were longer than they were wide (usually 12 to 16 feet wide) ----- usually near mills or factories to rent to workers in the cities
@@GenX...MCMLXV so is the video correct? Were they slave homes? Thanks for the explanation, I'd never heard of shotgun home before. Thanks to Peter and his videos I've learned so much ❤️
@@natashakey9575 No, they weren’t “slave” homes. They were built after the Civil War. They were built for black mill workers. There are a bunch of little pockets in the heart of Atlanta, which were built as mill worker housing, with sharp lines dividing the white workers from the black workers.
Its not about shooting a fricken shotgun in a house. The hallway is long and straight like a shotgun barrel lol
@@natashakey9575 I knew they were old but not that old, so I looked it up. "493ABC Auburn Avenue The three double shotguns at 493 Auburn Avenue were built as workers’ housing in 1911-1912, just after the neighborhood shifted from white to black. They were behind an apartment house and close to Queen Anne houses built a decade earlier for middle-class whites. The 1911 deed created a perpetual ten-foot-wide alley, extending to the back of the lot, to provide access to the three “alley houses” and the back yard of the house next door."
Don’t forget the car culture and bike life. Those are two parts of Atlanta culture.
Omg, that bike life 😳 that would be great.

Never been, but I respect the state pride. I'm originally from NJ so I get it. Haters gonna hate

Wow fantastic content! No one comes close to Peter in highlighting different cultures and lifestyles.
I love it that you shout out the links to the homies. I bet their social media is blowing the fuck up and that's great for everybody.
The best way to know someone is spend day with them and this shows clearly that peter is so nice that to send a clear picture he met an individual who showed the true side. I personally think that meeting is the best way to know someone irrespective of the religion someone follows.
I'm half way thru the video and have heard some great comments from the dudes in the hood. " be yourself man" hit home for me. Being Irish can be a saving grace and a curse at the same time. Growing up in Oakland, Berkeley and Richmond was tough as a short blonde kid. Fight or get punked out. I was the whiteboy burning with the brothers and others. I wish some of the fighting spirit would go away though 'cause it is a curse. That's who I am man.
as soon as you said you were irish the voice i was reading your commet with in my head became an irish man 😂😂😂😂😂
Once you get that dawg in you it don't come out lol
