Interesting how so many people comment on how close together these homes are, when most urban homes - especially subdivisions - are as close, apartment and townhouse dwellers share walls.

In Europe we built densely out of necessity - cause there's no space otherwise 😅😇
Different zoning makes it possible to have single family houses beside small businesses (hairdresser, doctor,...), and multi family houses that range from a 3 story house that looks like normal single family house, to row houses and bigger apartment buildings (up to 4-5 stories).
The landscaping is crucial too - big trees and hedges offer privacy and shade. Soundproofing and excellent thermal isolation is also essential - makes it possible to have privacy in a city.
The courtjard cottages seem like a compromise between what americans expect in suburban living and to create a dense, walkable community still.
Having parks and playgrounds in walking distance in Germany - often even multiple in 1km distance is also a huge part - makes you connect to other families.

@@theresabu3000 Europe definitely does a much better job of urban planning than we do here in North America. Developers call the shots here and get away with a lot, and this really started with the building of the suburbs back after World War II. One small hint about English - I notice that Europeans almost always refer to "isolation" which means something completely different in English. The word in English you want is "insulation." Isolation means being set apart, alone, (like monks often live in isolation, or where I live far from town in the woods people talk about the "isolation") but it never means the thermal barrier that keeps your home warm. (Otherwise your English is impeccable. A lot better than my German 🙂)!

More than any other comment, yours spoke to me the most. I’ve shared a tear because that is my related story too. At age 18, I wanted to build smaller homes, communities, etc. Now 58, (homeless and living in my car in Los Angeles), I’m like damn, what happened 😢. I know I had to heal from a traumatic childhood, teen and adult livelihood, but I’m like how in the hell life past me by. The saddest part, the dreams would not leave me🙏🏿🌎; the graveyard is full of dreamers. I don’t know how I made it to 58, but I did. I guess before I die, maybe I can build 4 homes, at least that would gross $8,000 per month 🏠💰👍🏿.

There needs to be an option for a slightly larger footprint for one-level homes in some of these tiny house communities. Many of us need that one extra room (like Will's loft) for family to be able to come visit.

We term that as cluster housing in my rural NH town. No town water or sewer here, so the houses share common land, along with a shared well and septic.system. Tiny houses are still not too common here, but there is minimum
square footage allowed. We have a severe housing shortage here. Our state is small and should look at tiny houses that would meet our building codes. I see vacant industrial parks that already have water, electricity and sewer. These industrial parks look like they would be good places for tiny homes or cluster housing. These parks are usually on the outskirts of towns, so its not a question of disrupting neighborhoods to integrate more viable housing.

I love pocket neighbourhoods - I remember finding Ross Chapin's book on them in my local library and thinking it was brilliant. I totally agree with Will that most people don't utilize most of their space in large houses, and then they are paying to heat an insure those spaces! A lot of people want houses with enormous rooms, and then when it comes down to it, everybody congregates in the cozy, human-scale rooms. If you have a party where does everybody end up? Always the kitchen!!! There's this mystique about huge house with high ceilings and enormous rooms, but I think it's an idea that's been sold to us - just like they sold folks on needing to have stainless steel appliances and granite countertops! We are sheep! (By the way, in a recent discussion a friend who is a smart designer with a lot of common sense mentioned that granite countertops give off radon!) Give me a small space with 8' ceilings or less - less space to heat in winter, and really cozy and livable. Thank as usually for a great feature, Alexis and Christian!!!

Yes, I like how this man thinks. I hope his ideas spread across the Nation like wild flowers. Home buying and rent is too dog gone high, along with Everything else.
You can tell his girls love him, they follow him around the house ❤. I would have a sofa so I could cuddle with them. The GT looked sad behind the recliner.
The lot and his home is beautiful, a tiny gem, with a big punch.
The high ceilings give the illusion of his home being bigger, I really like that. His bathroom is so moody. Yes, get the full length mirror for the closet.

This is an amazing community and the homes are gorgeous. They look more like small homes instead of tiny homes. I didn’t hear the narrator explain anything about the plumbing for composting or anything like that only about grid utilities. Great job and kudos to this developer. The layout is really awesome and no cars in the mix but to the side is a great idea 🎉 cheers !

We're not in a tiny house but we downsized to a house about 1/3 the size of the house in which we raised our children. Like Will says, we realized there were all these extra rooms in our original home that we weren't using. We use every single room in our much smaller home and are far more comfortable.

Will, your home is beautiful, and I thank you for inviting me to stay overnight, but this 76 y.o. is NOT going to climb that ladder!!!! lol!!! The entire philosophy of your tiny home village is remarkable, and so needed in our society today. Thank you for sharing this valuable video, you have made a beautiful community. Have a wonderful day ~ I love you.

I love this dude. Would totally want to be his neighbor. Been looking at the tiny life for years now. Going to retire in 3 years and trying to figure out what state I’m going to live in. California is too expensive for me. Might consider Georgia if they get rid of MTG

Fabulous. Makes me think of your other video of the couple in New Hampshire (?) that did the tiny home community mostly for their employees at the assisted living homes they own…great functionality and visual design…some people mention that these type of homes are too close to each other, or to cramped…but these provide much more autonomy than apartments or condos, where you share one or more walls or floors. Thanks for sharing this one. I’m going to look into their site. 💜💜💜

This is so cute! Looks wonderful to be in community like this. I could see myself somewhere like this as long as it was located on nice land in a nice area. The houses aren't that close compared to a lot of old neighborhoods. I'm born and raised LA and in many homes if you look out your window you can look directly into your neighbors.

I have to say major props for the edible landscaping because I believe that it's so important. We need to use our land and grow food for people to just eat and not worry about profits and teach kids to grow their own food and make that be a thing so I really really value that❤❤👏👏👏👏👏
