Mmmm separate spaces for things... what was hypothetically the living room when we bought this house is my home office... ham shack... music studio... electronics workbench... occasional photography studio... and catch-all table and chairs for laundry I haven't folded yet (at least 'til the wife gets back in town :D ). Fortunately the kids are grown and gone, so all I have to worry about is the new cat chewing on my headphone cable :)

Hey @sanjay, to be really frank i really liked the previous video frame in the previous studio. It may be because i was used to that red colored shades and the samsumg frame above which gave a visual treat to your background. The present foreground lighting is better than the previous due to the natural light. So my suggestion is to add some color lighting to the background. Rest all are really nice. The extra space really aids the overall rich look of the studio.

It's unclear if I need to cover all/most of the walls or just a few tastefully placed around. Right om, Sanjay! Living room for studio, yes. I also don't give 2 cents if it "needs" to be rectangular or no-glass or underground prison cell :) First and foremost it needs t be inspiring, beautiful, comfy space to create art! And who said musician needs to isolate from family? In our time so many people can be a musician and at can be NOT a dusty corner or mans-cave with an old guitar. ..... Its OK though if family wants you to use headphones most of the tome LOL
I also had two bedrooms joined at first (3bd house one kid), but daughter got neighbor dogs with not-good owners and had to rearrange. So I got a bedroom for studio (WFH office) and cant be happier. First, it has to be beautiful and art provoking :)
Happy for you intaking much of sunlight to the new place, matches to you music perfectly!

Go Dude! brilliant setup and I Am relocating in a while. so you've given ME ideas here. I' look into softsynths if you are a midi man I've been a DJ since I was 15 and have JUST started using them for jingles etc. VERY KOOL! ALSO like the fact that your SOUND gear doesn't play second fiddle to TV. To too many folk its a background noise - not part of the show! Oh! & happy (belated) Valentines day too! Best....TJ the DJ

    1) Security? 2) Thick curtains and/or dual-layer cellular blinds. I find top-down/bottom-up blinds SUPER helpful for both privacy and letting in natural light. 3) Pocket doors to separate the spaces and isolate if needed? 4) You already mentioned acoustic treatments - at least you have some large area rugs down and that helps a little. 5) Monitor (speaker) positioning - I hear you are supposed to have the monitors 38% of the room distance from the front wall (your gray wall), which in your space would likely mean your chair is basically in the middle of the room. Also, having them further away from your head is supposed to be more ideal, as long as your head and each monitor makes an equilateral triangle. I'm not sure I'd ever be able to do that due to space constraints either, but that's what "the experts" say w/r/t monitor positioning for best sound.
As far as synths to add - how about some more "exotic" stuff like a Waldorf Quantum, or Nonlinear Labs C15? ;) If that's not your jam and you need more of a workstation - maybe a Roland Jupiter X or Fantom X, or Yamaha Montage / Mod-X, or Korg Nautilus.
Looks GREAT tho man. It's wonderful that you have a family that supports your work/hobby enough for you to take over like half the main level there. The house looks *very nice* - congratulations - super exciting Sanjay!

I would like to build my first real homestudio in the flat that i get next month. And as you in the video, i got a very big cooking/living area too, with a total of 8 windows, where the studio should be.
Now as I can see, you've got a lot of windows too. Is there anything that you've done/will do to "eliminate" those smooth surfaces (with acustic curtains or something like that)?
pls don't mind my english, if it's bad at some parts..I'm not a native speaker😄

Hi Sanjay always a real pleasure to follow your videos. Congratulations on your new home. It makes you a nice workspace. Very good idea the space synths connected to the Mackie console. I also did that for 3 synths from the 80s, which I bought: yamaha DX7 that I still have, the Roland D50 and the Korg M1. It works very well this kind of space on the other hand it does not make you too far from the deckestop if you want to record your synths via your sound card since the Mackie?
I love your furniture to store cables and headphones, it's a dream! : )) Peace and enjoy my friend! :) Swane.

Congrats Sanjay, really nice house and studio space!
You'll probably get hundreds of great suggestion for everyone has different tastes.
I like the idea of the synth jamming room, and with that Solina Strings you're certainly off to a great start!
Me personally, I would add a Mellotron (the newer editions are very cool), an ARP 2600/Korg MS20 and perhaps a Moog DFAM/Mother combo.
Perhaps also an Arturia Maxibrute for something a bit more polyvalent, or even a Minibrute or Microfreak.
Then, create a aux feed from your mixer to a pedalboard with fx pedals, those synths will reinvent themselves constantly!
I love tech, synths, etc, but also love the organic sounds we can blend in.
A few baskets filled with world instruments like all sorts of flutes, kalimba, hand drums, shakers and all sort of percussion, etc, adds a nice human vibe to it all, adds a bit of warmth when things can start looking overly modern or sterile. It's gotta feel cozy and human.
A few plants, gotta have some green!
Nothing too crazy, one big one in a corner and maybe 1 or 2 smaller ones placed judiciously, an Aloe is always good to have!
Lighting - perhaps the most important to get into that creative zone! Maybe a few strands of delicate Christmas style lights, with a dim amber color, adds a bit of a magical vibe to the space, you can even coil one lightly around the bigger plant.
    Have fun!

Hey man my studio size is roughly 10'H x 10'W x 13'L , do you recommend 5" speakers with 8" sub OR 8" speakers with 10" sub?
Just Don't want to go overboard with sound or the size doesn't matter?

"gear I need to add" I was about to go "where the heck is your Rhodes??" but then I finally saw it in the main space XD "I hope it gives you inspiration" yes! Absolutely. I love this entire house that you've shown; your last upgrade video inspired me and so has this one. I remember when you showed off that Samsung as a picture display, and it stuck with me as something to do when I'm in a similar position. As someone that wants/tries to be very organized in her space, that set up with the drawers with the headphones and mics really speaks to me on a deep level

    Nice space...
Not a fan of a studio in the basement either. Prefer a main floor set-up, with some air and light. Mine currently being established in the used-to-be dining room area, connected via the open space to the living room area, somewhat akin to yours, though not as spacious. Total room dimensions for the two areas --- 22' x 15'.
The only concern I have is the visual in from the outside windows...lots of thieves out in the real world. I am trying to block out the equipment with room dividers, etc.

I don't think you should sell your old desk. If you started with that desk, then keep it as a part of your journey. I never throw/sell away my gear, I keep it as it reminds me where I have come from :) But again, its all your choice. Great studio :)

The Adam monitors I see in your studio. Will they you the best of both worlds? Like heavy sub bass, nice mids and crisp highs. I am looking to purchase a pair of monitors that will give me the best sound. So I wouldn't have to go to my car all the time.
    Thanks in advance

Second floor. Harder to break in. When people hear the same loop booming out of somewhere over and over, some may know there’s expensive gear doing that. They got my neighbor some years back for 20k worth of gear.

Theres no windows and open ways in basement so there will be more trapped resonance. Should not prefer basement. You should not have changed the red color. Silver or blue can't best red. It looked beautiful before.

Great looking space! I'd be a bit worried about the acoustics in there for any detailed mixing work, though - you'll have issues with the asymmetry of having the windows/wall to the left and open space to the right. That will likely cause weird imaging issues due to the difference in first reflection time from the left vs. right walls.

If the basement have a good space I would do a studio there, more isolation of sound from the outside plus you can be more concentrated on what your doing, also don't interfere with you living space.
    Congratulations for the new house!
