It's great to be an American, back home in Africa it cost amd arm and a leg. $500 is equal to R7 389,48 in South Africa which doesn't even buy a pair of proper studio monitors.
You will need around R20 000 which is equivalent to $1353.28 for a decent amount of money for a budget studio.

    1. Don't wait until it's perfect
    2. Make the music YOU love

Like where I started with nothing I ended up spending $300 on an old MacBook that was plenty powerful enough and $2000 on equipment and instruments. Now saying that you have no computer first, realistically you could possibly only spend $500 on your setup if you were to go for a computer like the 2015 MacBook Pro and either a nektar impact g61 or akai mpk mini 3 depending on if you plan on playing virtual instruments or just sampling. Those two things could cost you around $320-$370 and you still got $180-$130 left to buy at least some speakers from Walmart or Amazon and another $100 to spend on a microphone and a stand with cables.

Just going to do a break down here, but I believe you've set a good budget - AKG P120 $179.00, AudioBox 96 - $179.00, Sony MDR7506 $199.00, though the ATH-M50x are regularly found for $189.00, Launch Key Mini MK3 - 189.00, Presonus Eris 4.5 $329.00 So total $1,075 which in Australia that's a pretty dope set up for the price. I started with AudioBox 96 but quickly moved on to scarlett, I think Sanjay has picked a pretty awesome line up - only thing I need to note is some of Izotopes bundled software with some of brands now require a iLok, and not iLok Cloud.

I would say I have spent close to £700-£800 on home studio both for Production & Vocal. Focus right interface(£90), Microphone(£59), Vocal screen(£81), M-Audio Oxygen Professional Keyboard(£215), monitors(£150). I would say that it is within a medium range for a studio, but I am also building a top notch PC as well which will increase costs as well.

Hi Sanjay C, I've just discovered your channel and honestly, you're the best! I'd gather so much knowledge just by your videos, and you're very entertaining and pleasing to watch as well.
Question here: Do I need both a speaker and a headphone? I'd imagined myself doing all the producing with just a headphone so why is it important to also include a speaker instead of cutting it? Thank you man, have a great day!

    • @taimoorn5391

Hey Sanjay, thanks for all you do for the music community! I have a question that's a bit outside the scope of this vid. What do you think are the sweet spots for RAM and SSD size for the M2 air? Largely beat making, composition, some recording. More Vsts than real instruments, maybe at a 65:35 ratio. Will only be using large orchestral sample instruments about 10-15% of the time. Thanks again.
