- These Dragon Ball Characters Look Completely Different
Dragon Ball characters have gone through a lot changes throughout the years. Things like growing up and gaining a new form or set of clothes are expected, but every now and then, a character shows up looking completely different from when we last saw them; like when Krillin showed up with hair or one of Bulma’s many style changes. This is a pretty common occurrence in Dragon Ball, so much so that we had to make an entire video of it!
So let’s take a look at all the times characters in Dragon Ball showed up looking completely different out of nowhere. Everything from Vegeta’s style changes over the years to various characters’ hair and outfit changes, we’re chronicling every time a character changed it all without any heads up. I actually like the trunks from Z because he was so badass and not scared all the time I think they should of kept the purple hair because it brings back memories
My dislike for blue Trunks, lead me to theorize Super (at least in the Zamasu arc) is a different Trunks. All the time travel keeps messing things up.

Also, make it longer again to have that extra difference from kid Trunks
It's a retcon plain and simple.. notice the flashback sequences are black and white. Future trunks will now retroactively be treated as having Blue Hair all along..
However other DB licensed products didn't get the memo as they still showed a future trunks with purple hair

Am I really the ONLY person who remembers Krillin mentioning in the original “Dragonball” anime series that he shaved his head because he believed that “everyone who is serious about martial arts shaves their heads”?! :l

Joshua Humes I like to think it’s because since they’re living in a post-apocalyptic world with very little food, it caused him to lose a lot of muscle mass. Just my opinion man
It's more that he and the others lessin the muscle mass to be more effective in fighting.
future trunk's hair is blue because super wanted to let it be known that this future trunks is not the same trunks they currently see in super, he's grown up way differently than purple haired kid trunks. I see that as a way to lay down a foundation so that the viewers don't get confused in case they ever want blue haired trunks that grew up fighting the androids to meet the purple haired future trunks that grew up fighting buu

Gumbino That would make sense if kid trunks’ hair wasn’t blue in the manga. One of the covers has kid and future trunks on it.
Not true, the original character sheets for the Dragon ball super movies/show had kid trunks with blue hair, but I guess the showrunners therefore changed it to purple for continuity sake. The reason future Trunks has blue hair now is most likely just because Toriyama retconned it. He originally drew both Bulma and Trunks with purple hair but now draws both with blue hair, leading to Toei just going along with the character design for future Trunks and making his hair blue. It does also help distinguish between the two but I don't think that was the main purpose for doing it.
in the show it also says that he dyed his hair blue but you know constperisies are always fun

Around the time his character was introduced it was stated that Krillin shaves his head.

What a huge change
The reason Goku suddenly grew up when he hadn't aged throughout Dragonball, was that SJ didn't want Goku to grow up but Toriyama was growing tired of drawing a child fighting adults all the time and there wasn't much room for character development if he stayed young. He insisted that Goku grow up or he would stop writing DB altogether and go onto other projects.
Well My Theory is that he trained in the hyperbolic time chamber because when he is training with gohan in cell saga he said "This brings me many memories" or whatever so he trained in the hyperbolic time chamber and he became taller faster
Why such a need for an elaborate explanation. Everyone questioning this is weird. Do we live in a timeline growth spurts don't exist?
@@dxki. well that theory is pretty bad, especially since you mentioned cell saga. In cell saga they clearly said that each person only able to go to the chamber for max 2 days in their whole life, any further than that, then wont be able to return to real world. if you actually pay attention you would noticed that your theory is very wrong.
The limit only disappear after buu saga, before that they cant spend too long on chamber.
And of course Goku will said "This brings me many memories", last time he trained in there was when he still a kid, its already years.
I recently rewatched DB after many years. I thought it was so weird how it cut from goku playing hide and seek and not really learning anything, to suddenly being an adult and completing all his training.
Videl was angry that Gohan was aloof to her trying to flirt with him, not the idea of cutting her hair.

Lol, I think that is a translation mistake because he shows Bulma a picture album of him younger when they were introducing Tein's master and martial arts school rivalry. He had hair. And another time when Korin was talking about how long it took for Master Roshi to drink the special water. The flashback also had Roshi with hair.

You left out Videl's second transformation that occurred in dragon ball super.She went from a naive hothead with anger issues to a docile cheery waifu. Not only did her hairstyle change, the entire texture of it seems different.
So true, I hate what they did to Videl and Gohan. A outspoken strong girl and a overpowered semi-smart simple boy, turned into a submissive cheery mom and a overworked nerd pushover that had a problem turning super saiyan at one point.

He can count, and he had a decent vocabulary, and his knowledge about fighting was/is amazing, yet in super he became this really really dumbed down version of himself, and when he's portrayed as a complete idiot it makes it extremely hard to watch.

DBS Trunks was a twig and only helped at the last moment, just slicing Zamasu which didn’t even kill him cause Zamasu is immortal.
DBZ Trunks had food to eat in the present time. Good food. DBS Trunks was living in a desolate future where most of humanity was gone. There wouldn't be much food to go around. It's natural he'd be thinner.

Well, most of these are just them growing up and changing their looks through the years. But Trunks's blue hair, you can't explain that from growing up.

They didn’t mention how Vegita kept getting taller throughout the series. His original height would never have been tall enough to fuse with Goku.

I personally liked how Team Four Star addressed these appearence changes, namely Trunks having short hair right before the Cell Games and long during. Direct quote:

A cool thing to add to Gohan in appearance change is that Gohan has had the most uniform/gi changes of any character manly dependent on who has training and philosophies had come from. Almost every main character has trained him and each time a uniform change. Even donning the kai uniform and Android 16esque uniform (which is saiyaman minus helmet and cape) people believe it was on purpose due to taking on an even more peaceful nature brought on by 16’s final words

The pilaf gang are kids because Pilaf made a mistake with the dragon balls. And so it's been explained.

Gohan wasn't 12 when he fought cell. He was 11 in the English dub and 9 in the manga(nearly 10 if u include the time spent in the hyperbolic time chamber)

They mention Gohan’s age being 11 on DBZ, when they do the birthday party for him, and he is 11 instead of 10. Technically Gohan gain a year cause of the chamber so he was like I became 11 on the chamber, but actually he should have become 10. Not to mention that in DBZ buu saga Gohan is actually 18th it’s just that the schooling he is doing is not high school it’s actually like a type of college preparing him for his higher education. Chi chi even mention this at the beginning of buu saga. That is was to prepare Gohan to communicated with other people. Gohan actually did homeschool all the way through high school in his house.

Idk, I always remembered Vegeta being a bit short, like he and Bulma were the same height most of the time, but in some sagas and movies he's depicted as taller than her. I like the short Vegeta art style best.

Because the older broly was not canon and this broly is introduced as new character. Thus making him the original broly.
Broly from DBZ series was not canon hence decided to put that Broly series in DBZ future (future trunks world)

Well, Bulma has been using the Dragon Balls to make herself look younger after all.
They mentioned how video changed her hair the next day but never mentioned how different she looked and acted from dbz and dbs it was hard to believe they were the same.
All these changes make Goku and Vegeta’s consist appearance throughout the franchise even more iconic. Lol

luke jo Agree. Also doesn’t sensu beans heal scars as well. It’s funny how Dr. Gero put a hole in Yamcha and the sensu beans healed the hole but he still kept the scars.

They only heal the wounds that are fresh, so his hole in the gut was fresh as day so it healed and restored all internal damages. The body healed the old wound and now it's like his regular skin, as scars are.
New tissue is formed cause the tissue has settled at that point that's their logic. Future Gohan confirmed it as well, since Trunks mentioned if the senzu tree didn't die it would heal his arm, but Gohan said it's too late and it won't anymore if they had it or some shit.
It's always been confirmed to heal fresh wound. So a limb can regrow, but if you let it heal naturally, then you have no arm, use senzu.. Still no arm. The body now just has no arm.
The wish is very specific, I’d have to go back and rewatch to confirm this but usually the wishes are something like “bring back all the people killed by Frieza” etc, so any previous wounds/scars before the specified event would remain
That krillin statement is was already said when in dragonball he said he shaved his head when he was talking to master roshi

The time Goku showed up fully grown with the blue and white robes and turban has always been my favorite outfit for Goku.
As somebody who loves the character designs in DBZ largely because of their muscular physiques (as opposed to most anime where characters typically have the muscle mass of a nerd despite their strength), the thing I hated most about Super was how slimmed down some of them suddenly were.
I dislike the fact that Krillin and Goten shrunk in Super.
They were taller in Z
