I think there's a problem with scale mesh size on the latest version of UE4, you can fix this by going in to the Niagara System: 1. "Initialize Particle" -> Mesh Attributes -> Mesh Scale Mode 2. Set "Mesh Scale Mode" to Uniform.
Idk if it's the developer's goal to make this shit so complicated most people can't use it, but this fix doesn't seem to work anymore. No matter what Mesh Scale Mode I use, changing the scale of my particle system just makes everything disappear.
For any one using 4.26, After entering Scale Float by Curve, no more particles issue, I fixed mine by instead of clicking shift + left mouse button, right click, select add key to all curves and enter values. Also make sure that under Niagra Node -> Particle Spawn -> Initialize Particle -> Mesh Attributes -> Mesh Scale Mode to Uniform
So if anyone else happens to have the same issue with the curve as I did. Go in an do each curve solo by locking out the others. This makes you put in both points for all 3 and then auto curve. This was really nice tutorial to get a foot in to how use the system. Thanks
Hmm I tried that, locking each curve except the one I needed to edit, then manually putting in the values for each one and still nothing on my end. My end graph looks like his end graph, yet nothing shows up in the preview window. I am wondering for those who tried this on unreal 4.26, any advice...
Very useful indeed. More of this, please! I have the feeling that the handful of people that can work with Niagara keep the sacred knowledge to themselves and we are all kinda left in the dark. Same for VR, btw.
Yeah it's definitely a shame to have seen so little coverage of it. Even on the official unreal channel. I'll see what I can cover. And still following that VR track I see, how's that going?
Thank you. FX/Particals/Niagra is a black box and I've never really stepped in to them because I assume they are going to be difficult. This is very helpful, and perfectly paced as an Intro. Preciate it.
I have found the solution on a forum, it worked after that : "1. Press on Niagara node 2. Find Mesh Attributes 3. Set mesh scale to Uniform" From user "staseg"
I cannot thank you enough for this really amazing tutorial. I was really struggling with trying to understand how the particle systems work in unreal! Thanks!
Thank you! this is exactly what we need more of!! do you ever wonder why creating a curve doesn't come with a default of two points? 0 to 1.. I wonder if anyone has made a plugin..
Hi everyone, how to fix 6:55 Scale Mesh Size problem ? Firstly, Vector from Float than Float From Curve. Same result. Don't forgot Niagra Node -- Particle Spawn - Initialize Particle - Mesh Attributes - Mesh Scale Mode to "Uniform"
Hello! Detective Thaw is a lot of fun; I really liked the dynamics of the shots. Its great. Congratulations!!. Please launch a course teaching how to make a game similar to Detective Thaw! Regards
Hey Ignacio, I was completely thrown off by the random PayPal payment earlier as I'd completely forgot about the itch jam games and you're the first person to ever buy one of my games :D so thank you so much for that. I'll definitely see if I can garner some interest for that sort of thing and rework the jam entry to a more flexible system that could prove useful to people.
In the Add Velocity section in the emitter, is using "Add Vector" a valid substitute for "Uniform Ranged Vector"? Since UE5 doesnt seem to have "Uniform Ranged Vector" to choose from.
Yeah I would certainly like an answer for why the particles disappear when adding the "Scale Mesh Size" attribute. I tried a couple engine versions too (4.26 and 5.0) and the same thing happens to either of them. Searching the web doesn't seem to yield anything but more tutorials that don't show the problem I encounter. Any luck?
I have gotten to the float curve stage. It isn't working at all? I am hitting shift click and I cant place a point. I cant see parameters to change time or value. I am using 4.26. Can anyone Help?
I haven't taken a look at that myself yet to be honest. I think like with Niagara, as soon as it comes by default with the engine release rather than requiring a source build I'll be sure to cover something on it.
@@DevEnabled I think that is for the best, Also, any update tutorials or feature exploration of AR in UE4 would be nice as well. specifically, how to get some clean and accurate plane detection thanks! :D
I actually hate Niagara particles so much, they seriously make me wanna break my computer... Following along just fine, even though more recent updates have changed the UI to make things visibly more complicated, but I am doing exactly what you're doing I get to adding the scale value. Literally, I add a node for scale value, leave it at a vector of 1s, and everything disappears. How does giving the particle system a constant scale value of 1 make the scale 0!?
It was a pretty decent trailer. Looking forward to seeing what's in the new version. I don't think I'll have time to do collabs unfortunately, good luck with your channel though.
Yeah, sorry about that, 3rd time recording this and I thought the sound was coming through ok until the edit. Had to keepit fairly low due to the amount of room sound the mic wanted to pick up.
In this video, we create a simple stylized flame particle system using the newly released Niagara particle system.
Tutorial went great but not sure how to scale this VFX to a smaller size.

Great video :D keep the unreal tutorials coming :)
The game you were making as part of the game jam, at 20 seconds in should be your next course. it looks fun and engaging,
Thanks, that was an interesting one to work on as it was more of a classic adventure style game which I've never really worked on before.
Great as usual!
Thanks for the tutorial, it's a really cool way to approach the particle system!

I thought it was "Add Vector" too, but I think it's actually "Random Range Vector".
Where did you get this theme for UE4? Looks slick (and how do you even change theme in UE4? Never seen anyone do that b4)

On the Mesh Scaling Size part use instead of float vector at least it shows up to me after editing the curves
uniform ranged vector did not show up for me.. any reasons?
Likely changes between engine versions. Things keep getting renamed each version update.
Wow. I was surprised
Hey there, I was wondering how would I be able increase and decrease the size of the flame? Using the scale tool doesn`t work. Thanks in advance.
You'd want to alter the velocity and size of the individual particles to account for the change in velocity.

Guna use this ;) and use the sprite creator add-on to make some sprites of it for an aura effect for my paper 2d character o; hope it works out
