But for the life of me I don't remember this song or the performance at all. How's this one gonna go? Only one way to find out...

There really isn't a poor song at this concert. Taken one at a time they all can hit you but as a complete concert it is almost an overload of emotions.
To your point about Emppu's playing:
In my early journey with metal music, I listened to a lot of bands that would just melt your face off with 2-3 minute guitar solos. I listened to Nightwish at the time, but it always bugged me how reserved his playing was. Now that I'm a more experienced musician and have more developed musical taste, I REALLY appreciate Emppu's tasteful musicianship. Like every member of Nightwish, Emppu puts the needs of the music far above his own ego. It's part of the reason why I still listen to Nightwish today, but haven't really listened to many of those progressive metal bands in like 15 years.

Yess, this is for me one of the best songs of Nightwish together with Ghost Love Score, Nemo and The Poet and The pendelen.

Always love your reactions David. Tuomas knows how to compose a great song. Even a short single like this one. It helps to have the tools he has to work with, including the amazing musicians. We do all miss Jukka. I think he has a very swing feel to many of his rhythms. Respect to Kai!

I love this song because of its duality, starting out slow and delicate, then changing up into that higher energy and in the end when the overdrive kicks in that just showing off.

Well...At that time in 2013, this song was the most challenging vocal piece for Floor (believe it or not).
And now, this song is not only in Nightwish set list (Current tour), but in Floor's Solo Concert, that was in Amsterdam, as well (I still have to specify the set list for the Floor's upcoming solo tour, but one thing is certain, Floor loves this song) .
I heard this song "Live" last year, and even without Marko, Floor did his parts beautifully and this song IS forever beautiful still on this day !

BTW Not so long ago Floor asked NW fans what song is their favorite on Floor time catalogue. And Ever Dream was fan favorite by huge margin. Eventho this was written when Tarja was in the band. And Floor put this song in official NW YT channel as a thank you for the fans.
Great tune, saw them live in Minneapolis last year, what a fricken' treat and absolute bucket list seeing them LIVE! Great tune and reaction buddy!
This song always make me think about driving a super sports car. You start off slow. Then it's just going through the gears. Till your doing 200 mph in top gear by the end of the song.

You can be forgiven for losing track of this one in all of the awesomeness that was the Wacken 2013 set. As far as the "swerve" goes, you should almost be expecting those by now. Tuomas is a master at establishing your expectations and then utterly betraying them.
This song has so many emotional changes, and so much power in it, and boy does it it ROCK!!, Wacken was a defining moment for Nightwish but also for live music videos IMHO, simply fantastic
they played this song at the LA show you saw..After seeing NW x3 in North America at the small venues I flew to Munich to catch the full pyro/light board experience exactly a month ago... so fantastic!!! ( but they did not do this song).Now trying to figure out how to get funds to go to a Finland show in Kitee or Vaasa next June without robbing a bank

The last minute of Everdream, with the double bass drum and music intensity, is like a runaway steam train with Floor as the conductor and the guys stoking that boiler 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
In the Wacken 2013 setlist, Ever Dream was song #5. Ghost River was #4, Storytime was #6. In between those 2 might be a big reason why you don't remember this one.

Floor's most difficult song to sing so far, according to her own statement. Because in the second half she is almost constantly in the highest notes.

Know I'm a day late but was just too busy yesterday to watch. Glad I had the time today as I adore this song and I've really been looking forward to you reacting to it. This is a song I first discovered when I first heard Nightwish (in 2007 or so) and I've adored this song since. While Tarja both album and live is amazing on this song something about this particular version really sticks with me and I've yet to be able to truly explain it. Looking forward to the next reaction to Nightwish from you regardless of how long from now it may be, ill always check them out. Happy 2023 to you and the Mrs. Wish you both health and happiness this year!

Ever dream is one of my most favorite Nightwish songs, full of emotion; and I really liked that you felt the same.
The juxtaposition of the ballad start and that double bass end is great.
I didn't realize you and Jen reacted to this whole concert, I knew you guys had reacted to the entire Hellfest concert. I agree about Floor and Marko's vocals too, they compliment each other very well.

That whole show is amazing. Lol i don't really like slow songs. I'm not sure how I'd describe this song. Starts slow and just keeps picking up speed. Floor is just Floor beautiful and amazing Marco and the rest are epic. Just a fantastic song and amazing performance

Very funny watching them get you going on the ballad rant and then switch it up immediately after you stopped. I watched you and Jen react to this show and I watched your reactions to seeing Nightwish on back-to-back nights in L.A. in May. My wife, Carol, and I got to see them live at the Warfield Theatre on May 18th. Loved, loved, loved it. Pleasantly surprised at how much you liked this one, as it's pretty mainstream and straightforward by Nightwish standards (I think it was one of their bigger hits). Should have known you'd see past that, to find all the greatness under the "mainstream" surface, though.
I'm with you on Jukka. I absolutely love Kai, but Jukka might be the most entertaining drummer to watch I've ever seen, but he's also a damn good drummer, too. Too bad health issues forced him to leave, but I can't imagine a better replacement for Nightwish than Kai, so Nightwish fans are damn lucky, in any case.

The way Floor cuts off the note so cleanly at 18:00 is impeccable. And then the following line where she looks over to the right at Marko while belting it out, I’ve seen that movement rarely before where singers are truly feeling the lyrics. Amazing, I’m blown away every time.

GLS lacks one big element, no Marco singing, so its understandable that its not top favorite NW song. Its a great intro to Floor though for new reactions to NW. I've heard one reactor say that his favorite singer of NW was Marco! (kind of avoiding the Tarja vs Floor debate and well done).

I cannot say for sure as I was not at you show, bt I would be 100% surprised if you did not hear this live. This song like GLS and Storytime are staples that they play at almost all their shows.

"Why don't I remember that?" Ha,ha - I think I know why.... I've experienced it myself. That's how it is sometimes when you're listening to music with a great woman, and Jen is undoubtedly one. It's hard to focus completely on the music and talk to someone at the same time. Divisibility of attention is not our strong male trait. It was a long video with Jen - I watched it, so I know what you're talking about. It's a whole, long concert. If you wanted to analyse every song in detail, this meeting of yours would probably last several hours. I kind of regret it- I would have loved it to be that way.... It would have been very interesting!

True, holy trinity is amazing but from Nightwish my top5 picks are without them. And fist place share Ever Dream with Nightquest, not much popular but kinda tell story what purpose of Nightwish is. 3rd is Erämaan viimeinen, 4th Planet hell and I wish I had an Angel.

I think you should check Ghost River from this gig. I definitely like the combination of both Floor and Marko singing in that.
Marko has said that Floor's incredible voice made it possible for him to crank it up to 11 as well - something he couldn't do with Tarja or Anette. Every member of the band makes the others better.

I agree with you completely, it's a great song. But ghost love score and greatest show are out of this world. Still, the prog rock style of dark chest of wonders makes it stand out and the song really takes you on a journey.

I have a theory. This song appeals to our "intimate" feelings and emotions. And if I remember correctly - you saw this concert together with Jen. And you had to "block" yourself while watching this - because for men sometimes its hard to show our "weaker" soft side being close to a Woman. I think your senses told you to sort of make a "distance" between you and the music, kinda a "security" system in auto- mode. Now - you are alone in your studio. Yeah, there are thousands of viewers who will watch this AFTER you publish it. But! At this particular time of recording - you are on your own and you could afford yourself un-block that emotional side of you. That is just a theory. But my guess is that when you are in a Company - you become more energetic and positive and constructive, but less intimate, less vulnerable.
This kind of swerve you mentioned remembered me Automan (the TV series) 90º curves when he was riding is car, ayone remember? The torticollis every passenger got...
