Fun fact:
Marko actually rewrote the music in this song. Marko and Tuomas used to work very close together on the songs. And Troy also started his influence on this album ( he rewrote My Walden).
And Floor has free hands to interpretate and sing the way she finds most giving/ enhancing for the story.
They have a unique way of creating their music.

The reactors' confusion on the vocal lines (you got it faster than most though!) is hilarious because once you've heard Marko singing his own stuff, his "melodic" voice is SO distinctive, you come back to this and wonder how people don't find it self-evident that he's singing clear.... You need to do more Marko stuff. :D
I agree, but Marko & Floor can get so close you can’t tell who is singing on tip. I think Floor can easily meet him wherever he is.

The guitarist's name is pronounced "em-poo". And yes, that is a different drummer. The previous drummer, the one you see in the Wacken videos, is Jukka, but he had to step down due to severe insomnia. He is still working behind the scenes with the band though. This drummer is Kai Hahto, who was from the band Wintersun. He is one of the best drummers in the world. Probably has less flare and showmanship than Jukka, but an amazing drummer nonetheless.
I was surprised to see Jukka on D&B currently listed as CEO of Scene Nation OY (Finland) and Oily Empire Ltd OY. Both firms listed in Nightwish movie and video credits.
Edited... Corrected company name. Tuomas recently confirmed in a fan Q&A that Jukka is the CEO of Nightwish now.
I kinda like him more for being less flashy and having more subtle flair. He gets the job done impeccably, and he CAN be expressive, but even behind that drum kit he's 'just a Finnish dude'. :)
Jukka just beats the hell out of his drums, Kai uses more finesse, both great drummers.
Regarding your question concerning the keyboard facade: This started several years ago. In the very beginning, he didn't have any ornaments to his instrument. Then people started telling him that he looked a lot like Jack Sparrow, so he stuck a little Jack doll to the keyboard stand as a joke (that was during the Once-tour in the early/mid 2000s, the doll is also visible on the live DVD). The ornaments have been getting more and more creative and bigger ever since. ^^
Looks like Groot (from Guardians of the Galaxy) doing an imitation of Christ, to me. Ha! Ha!
Also, he needs a place to stash his bottle of wine.
Kai Hahto is the drummer here and he is still their current one. The previous drummer Jukka, is now part of the band management. The two are friends and when Jukka stepped down, he recommended Kai.
Kai has said that he isn't the showman that Jukka was, however, in later concerts Kai has put more effort into adding a bit more visual interest in his performances. He is a machine behind the kit and a very technically skilled drummer, but during these 2015 performances, he was leaving the showmanship up to the rest of the band.
If you do the 2018 Buenos Aires concert, you'll see a somewhat more animated Kai. "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" or "Dead Boy's Poem" are both very good choices for that concert. This was part of the Decades tour where they revisited a selection of their older songs. Floor sang numbers from all three Nightwish singers.
BTW, I hope that "7 Days to the Wolves" gets promoted up your list as the song strongly features Marko's bass, which you'll love, plus you'll get to meet their multi-instrumentalist, Troy Donockley.
Plus 7 Days to the Wolves also features Tuomas windmilling so hard you can see Groot on his key stand there starting to shake loose!

And this drummer is Kai Hahto, which came to replace Jukka, which was the drummer you saw at Wacken. He had to step down due to his insomnia problems, focusing on his health. Now Jukka works with the administration of Nightwish.

And Yes, the drummer in this is the current one . Kai Hahto from Wintersun !!! Kai Hahto is "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto ( is a Finnish musician and drummer). Not very animated , but his footwork, precision and stamina is insane !!!!!

Yeah, Tuomas changes keyboard stands every tour. The tree one is from the Vehicle of Spirit tour, you also see tree thingies in Troy’s and Marko’s mic stand.
And yeah, that’s indeed Floor doing the growling. It takes everyone by surprise lol.
Re: drummer, that’s Kai Hahto, he joined the band during the recording of the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album due to Jukka’s health issues (he still remains in the management side of things). Kai’s original band, of which he is still a member, is Wintersun, which is freaking awesome. Like, seriously, if I had enough money to become a Patreon I would request Wintersun, probably with Sons of Winter and Stars, which is a freaking masterpiece.
Marko is an amazing singer. There’s a reason why people joke that, out of Tarja, Anette and Floor, the best Nightwish singer is Marko. Not that much of a joke, as you can see!

Hey Carolina - that Wintersun track won a Patreon poll recently so I would guess it'd come out in December/January.
Marko is basically just as versatile as Floor. He won the Finnish edition of Masked Singer because they couldn't figure out it was him singing. If you listen to Master Passion Greed you'll get a totally different side of him. (Love that song also btw it's my favorite angry song)

I think I saw the older keyboard stands with some other historical production and touring items, are now in the Nightwish museum in Kitee.
The fact he thinks floors voice is at a lower register, when it's actually Marco singing just shows just how quality Marco's voice is. What a loss he is. I really hope his mental health recovers first and foremost, but I also hope the King returns to his thrown at Bass and vocals. One can only hope.

Tuomas' facades change per tour. Usually it has a theme matching the album or occasion they put up a tour. The Wacken show was part of the Imaginarium tour, which had like a show/carnival theme. This concert was part of the 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' album tour, which has a nature/evolution theme, hence the tree shaped façade.
2nd chorus. Congrats Dave you legend, there's a significant amount of reactors that never figure out the chorus at all. A few that get pre spoiled. And very few figure it out on the 1st
Indeed. And that's also why so many of us voted so fervently in those polls - some of the live versions (the cruise one especially) it's even harder to spot on first viewing. The work David put into doing the polls definitely paid off!

This drummer is Kai Hahto, he replaced Jukka when he had to step down due to health issues related to insomnia. Jukka is still with the band, but now in a management role.
Kai is also in Wintersun.
Kai Hahto might be one of the best drummers alive, no disrespect to the brilliance of Jukka! I spend hrs just watching Kai's drum clinics and drum cam videos!
Many miss it in the Beginning that Floor is growling, many just get it the second time when the focus is on Marko and they filter that he is singing clear. You are not alone but your confusion and amazement was awesome.

Also the first song "Shudder before the beautiful" at this show was a full blast right into the fans faces: Straight forward full power!
This song is full of surpises and the unexpected switch of Marko's and Floors vocals fantasticly shows how the real and virtual (percepted) world can be so different

This was the first tour with Kai Hahto (formerly from Wintersun) replacing Jukka. He's not such a showman, but he's very good technically. Nightwish is a vacation for him, you should watch Wintersun - Sons of Winter and Stars, I hope you will have this song soon on your reaction list.

The guitar player's full name is Emppu Vuorinen (two "p"s in his first name, one "u"). In Finnish, whenever you have double letters as in the two "p"s in "Emppu", it's a long sound. Single letters are always short sounds. No exceptions.
I don't think you have any long consonant sounds in English - at least I can't think of an English word with a long consonant off the top of my head. To hear how "Emppu Vuorinen" is pronounced, google "how to pronounce Emppu Vuorinen", and click on the first link. (RUclips doesn't seem to allow me to give a direct link.)

Jukka (Waken drummer) retired due to insomnia. Jukka recommended Kai Hahto of Wintersun, and he is now (and still) the drummer from 2014 to present. Kai is a metronome, period.... he isn't as laid back as Jukka, yet is just as talented, just diff style person. Guitar player, Erno Matti Juhani "Emppu" Vuorinen. Emppu is pronounced "M-Poo".
I love their showmanship too. Young Emppu is pronounced Em-poo. The drummer here is Kai. He had been a session drummer for them for some time, but as Jukka (Yookah) had to retire due to health issues Kai has became their regular drummer. (Jukka has come to grips with his health now and is well. He is still working with Nightwish behind the scenes.) I see them as Jukka is a show pony whereas Kai is a work-horse. I love the work from both of them.

Jukka had to quit due to severe imsomnia, which I understand you can sympathise with - he's effectively the band manager now.
I don't know much about drumming but those that do say Kai is the better technician, whereas Jukka is obviously the better showman. I saw in a recent interview that Kai is working on showmanship as he recognises its something he can improve.

Nightwish is a band that has no weak points. Everything is on such high a level that you must appreciate and respect what are they doing weather you are a metalhead or not. You still have a lot to see and hear from these metal Gods bro. Love that message at the end-persistence is the key to success, its so true. Almost 20k subs. Lets go all together to 30, 40, 50. Good pick up on the parts of Floor and Marko. A lot of reactors just completely miss it. Marko actually can sing very high. I think the keyboard stand is meant to be Groot. A few people have already said that the drummer here is Kai Hahto. He is also the drummer for Wintersun which would be a spectacular band for you to react to. I would suggest the song Time if you ever have time for it.
It's interesting to me when people who've definitely heard Marco and Floor sing together and separately in different Nightwish songs, still mistake Marco's vocals as Floor at first. When I first watched a video of Nightwish performing this, I knew right away that Marco was singing the melodic line because whilst he and Floor mesh well, they definitely do not sound alike. I don't know if I picked up on the growling right away, but I think the growling isn't as loud in the mix so it kind of went under my radar for the first couple bars. It's just interesting to see this keep happening with reactors. I think it says a lot about the expectations set up by our culture. Even though death growling isn't my favorite, I do like the sparing way Nightwish utilizes that technique in this song for emphasis. I think a little really goes a long way. I haven't yet been able to get into metal genres that utilize death growls and screaming as the main vocal style throughout the entire song.
Floor growls on a few NW songs, this is the most evident, Tuomas doesn't like growls.
To listen Floor growling you should check her second band before NW, ReVamp, the songs Disdain and Wild Cards have a decent live recording.

I love Song of myself, even when it's very hard to have a favorite top 5 NW songs and they rotate regularly this song always is in it. I hope it will float to the top of his list soon.

The opening for this concert was Shudder Before the Beautiful. I know how much you are into show openers. Most vocalists sing what they can. Floor sings whatever she wants. Therein lies the difference between good and great. This is a song I really have just discovered myself not too long ago, so the analysis was a great thing for me. Gives me a greater appreciation. Floor is doing the growls. Marco has problems doing growls because of his throat surgery. Tuomas is a genius and they call him a musical Mozart. Definitely do some Marco performances.

Emppu is pronounced em-poo. The drummer is Kai Hahto, and I know everyone is recommending Wintersun's "Sons of Winter and Stars" as his drum showcase, but I think that "Time" is the better Wintersun song. In either case, watch the Sonic Pump Studios session.

On Wacken 2013 live you've seen the keyboard decoration as "organ" pipes is also a sorta tribute to a late Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. There's a statue in the capitol(Helsinki) here in Finland🇫🇮 where it's copied from. And as many of us knows Tuomas is a Huge Disney fan, figure it out from that.

Everytime you mention Keyboardist stage presence, I picture seeing Jon Lord (Deep Purple) and his Hammond C3. He rocked that thing back and forth at times.
As I watched and you went to Marko on the growls I was laughing because I knew you would catch it and when you did would be .... FLOOOOOOOOOORED! For Marko on vocals there are many to consider. The one that will truly move you is Nightwish doing their tribute / cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. I wish I could jump on your patreon to bump that to the top but the financial hit from covid makes it impossible. I will never recover from losing my business but it's been a good run and what will be in the future will be :D

Mr. Ray Manzarek from The Doors. I just love his performence on 'Light my Fire' live at Hollywood Bowl 1968. The way he sits on this organ/keybord and playing like in trance. I myself have been practising Kickboxing And Kyokushin for nearly 30 years, I remember in my early days I had a problem with makeing the spinning back heal, and thought that, this is never gonna work for me, but I keept on going, and in the end I made it, it is still not my bedst kick, but I can do it and it works.

His name is actually Erno 'Emppu' Vourinen, but everyone calls him Emppu... the best way to explain how to say it is just as it's spelled, basically say the letter M and then Poo. Hope this helps! :)

Continuing on the keyboard facade, the facades match the theme of the tour. The Wacken show part of the Imaginaerum (misspelled intentionally) the theme of the album was imagination, and childhood innocence. So the keyboards looked like something Jules Verne would have created. The next album, Endless forms most beautiful was more of a science, and nature theme. So the facade looked more like a fossil. The one thing in common Korg, always Korg.
Korg keyboards are some of the best you can get, not surprising he's using them.
It's great watching an analysis of the entire performance. And yeah I've been waiting for this one. I'll score the review at a 9.7!

That was one of the best reactions I've seen on this channel and on RUclips and it was great entertainment, especially the one about the growling of Floor. Floor is able to growl and sing in opera style, which is really not very healthy for a voice. Therefore she belongs to the elite singers in rock/metal in these days. The former drummer Jukka Nevalainen left or took a break because of chronic insomnia. The new drummer is Kai Hahto. one of the best drummers in the world. He is from Wintersun a excellent metal band also from Finnland. Wintersun are also called "The small Nightwish" only in Death Metal style. I think you will also react to Wintersun soon.

Yes, it ia different drummer. The drummer at Wacken was Jukka, he stopped because of health problems (Insomnia, but he still works for the band). The current drummer Kai Hahto, a friend of Jukka. Kai is also drummer for Wintersun.
Marco CAN get up there and let 'er rip, for sure! ;) If you want further proof of just HOW, check into a band called Tarot that he founded with his brother, Zachary, back in the early 80's. He served as their bassist and lead vocalist and now that you've heard his pipes in action as it were, you can tell why! Songs like Shining Black, Beyond Troy and Warhead are just... -chef's kiss-

If Tarot gets done, then somewhere along the line the 1986 video for Wings of Darkness has to happen, just for the "Is that really Marko?" moment. Everyone's so used to him as the Viking Warrior of Nightwish, they forget the guy wasn't born with the beard.

"Song of Myself". I am however looking forward to the "Poet and the Pendulum". Some background knowledge will definitely make more things stand out, but you have catched most things so far, so I will not have an opinion as to recommend going in blind or not. Both approaches can be argued.
18:32 his keyboard stand decoration propably is part of the visual concept of each tour, together with the rest of the stage design and backdrop animations - the Wacken show was part of the Imaginarium Tour (2012-13), which had an evil circus vibe (following the album and feature film(!) they produced about it - and this one is from Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015-16), which is about Life and Evolution... which is also what their long album- and show-closing epic 'The Greatest Show on Earth' refers to. I assume people already mentioned that as a must to check out some day.

With your good ear, I'm a bit surprised you didn't pick up who is doing what, during the first chorus. I remember you saying during GLS that you thought you had seen Floor before. IIRC you also mentioned somewhere, having listened to Soilwork's "Let this River Flow". It's a bit mind boggling to hear her growl that low and then hit an F6 in another song. For the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album (which this song is on), Tuomas challenged Floor to sing both lower and more softly. I think the challenge was accepted. ;)
BTW, that's three 9.2s in a row for Nightwish. You're gonna break your score calculator when you get to "Poet and the Pendulum" and "Greatest Show on Earth". And throw away that timer for those as well. Bring snacks and a bevy: you'll need them.
