Man, that was an AWESOME comparison review!! Your engineering and practical mindset coupled with logic made this flat out enjoyable to watch. And extremely informative!
@markpatey this is one of the best real world reviews i have ever watched! Thank you so much for sharing your real world experience, i think the only truck to take on your new GMC will be another GMC the Hummer EV has even better performance than the Ford and better ride comfort with all the other things you like about GMC! Truly great content 👍.
I bought my wife a model 3 a few years ago. We both liked it so much that we sold our last gas car this year and bought a model Y for me. I installed two wall chargers in our car port and we both just plug in when we get home. The cars are always full the next morning. I'm never going to buy $5 gas again. Except for my airplane! The airplane is still gas, but it's around $7 per gallon. Lol.
Hey Mark 👋 the new GMC electric pickup is advertised at 440 miles and real-world has been 450-460 miles not towing. The torque steer thing on the GMC is probably due to the 50/50 torque split. If they do a update on it and change the split to 45/55 that should fix the torque steer.
Just keep in mind that stacking anything in the bed above the lower barrier will be very dangerous in a wreck. I don't think I would stack very many sheets of anything that can slide into the back of the front seats or the back of your head. I must admit, the GMC does look great and has a lot of nice features... Keep us updated on reliability.
Mark, you are awesome on this review, the biggest thing is you are very honest in your assessment of both trucks, You did so well I have not questions! And I bet the GMC would pull an Aircraft.
I have heard very little of the lightning but never of the GMC. I hope that this video was as fun for you to make as it was entertaining and informative for me to watch, most of what you explained here was unknown to me, but now I know. I appreciate and value greatly the time and effort you and your camera person put into this video, thank you both.
When I decided to go Electric I chose the Chevy Bolt EV. For me it is a commuter vehicle which is perfect for SLC. My other perfect commuter vehicle is 2019 Honda 125abs Super Cub. You gave us the best EV review I have seen.
Awesome reviews Mark. I had a thought regarding not being able to haul your trailer up to the cabin and home again with the F150. I wonder if you could use an Anker F3800 as a 'ferry tank' and either pre-charge and haul it with, or have it based at the cabin (if the cabin is not off the grid.) I'm no engineer so I have absolutely no idea if it would provide the needed range, but it's where my brain went when you mentioned that issue. Cheers!
It would be cool to see the GMC with a carbon fiber body and frame for weight saving. I’m sure it would be way more expensive but some people would pay it.
Thanks for sharing. A real convincing review. Everything you said made sense to me. I really did not know how capable and practical these trucks have become. Not to mention sporty. Keep on enjoying (trucking)😁 👋🏻
Matt that was great. When you started on the Lightning towing I was aware how good the GM or Sierra is so not surprised when you spelled it out. As a Tesla owner I smiled a lot on the touch the brake and drive. When I catch an EV with the start button I always forget and always ask myself "why is this here?" Heads up display is one of my fav features. Why does Tesla not have it? Thanks for the reviews. I knew you and Mike had electric trail bikes and always wondered about not seeing any EVs. Cool to learn Watt you're doing.
I don't have range anxiety. I aim to drive my battery down to zero, when driving home or to another place with known alternate chargers on the way. Tesla does predict range reliably (once navigation is on).
Wow, I'm not even remotely in the market for a truck but I still enjoyed watching this. It seems like GM got a lot right with that Sierra Denali. I love the ability to put full 4x8 sheet goods into the bed. One question about the Lightning and the towing range: what prevents you from charging the Lightning up at the cabin? It seems like that would get you the range you need to get back.
Thanks for the review. I am glad to hear Ford is making a quality electric vehicle. I am in the process of purchasing my first electric vehicle from a friend. I have always been weary of Tesla, given all the problems they have had, and all the failed promises. You are right the truck is boring looking, but it's also a sleeper.
What do you want improved on besides range? The standard F150 frame does not have maximum space between frame rails. This will change on gen-2 so more batteries can be squeezed in.
I'll keep this all in mind for when I have *$millions$* of discretionary income and when I don't have to worry about how I'm filling my 100 gallon LP tank to keep my home heated over the winter!
Awesome review! Do you think 18” wheels would help the gmc ride? Is it much or just slightly louder than the lightning? I also want a quiet isolated ride but I like everything else of the gmc.
Thanks Mark. I have long needed an new/electric vehicle, and made a deposit on the CyberTruck, and almost decided on the Ford instead, but then GM came out with the G.O.A.T. EV truck. Ford Dealers were marking up the Lightning, Tesla did NOT deliver on the specs or the price and the aluminum body was a drawback for reliability....Then GM knocked one out of the park! Still beyond my means sadly, but one day....
Hi - I am just wondering if the torque vectoring you fell in the GMC is only in all-wheel-drive and not in rear-wheel-drive??? Good comparison - thanks!!!
That's cool I love my Chevy Duramax it's pretty quiet inside after my last f-150 I said never ever another Ford truck it was junk but I've never tried electric maybe I should buy I just really don't want to sit and charge it I don't have the time for that but seriously I think after listening to you I might give it a try thanks for review
With the Sierra and Silverado's crazy range charging stops will be fewer and when going on long road trips in the EV you can jump from charger to charger for short stints (less than 20 minutes playing inside the 10-65% battery and still gets massive range between stops)
not a range anxiety, but final reserve. like in airplines. so usable range is: car range minus final reserve. so 150miles of range is 2x more usuble range than 100miles (because on both you have 50miles of rinal reserve)
As Americans, I think we’re so used to noise meaning power, and cool. If we all went to quiet vehicles, do you think we would miss the noise? It’s just fun sometimes 😁 Thanks for the honest opinion. Hopefully some engineers at ford and gm pay attention.
Any reason why you didn't consider a Rivian R1T at the time you got the Lightning? Too off-roady for your uses? It's faster than the Ford and I do believe it's also quieter now :)
Does either vehicle have a regen feature. To allow four wheel down towing behind a bus motorhome and charge batteries? Can either be towed 4 wheels down?
I used to drive a Skoda Superb diesel, but have switched to a Skoda Enyaq 80x for my work car. The Superb ran fine for 445.000 km over 7 years. Have driven 54.000 km so far in 1½ year, no maintenance so far, only new summer tires. A diesel would be close to the second oil change by now. Cost per kilometer is down to 22% or thereabouts electricity vs diesel.
Wow, too bad about the torque steer on the GMC, range anxiety would be hard for me because I like to take random side roads. Hybrid for retirement I reckon
Need to place a home charger at the cabin. Then, purchase a Rivian or a new EV Silverado for the EV look, range, and performance. You will definitely look back at it as you walk off. Correct, The Litening is a basic F150.
I got pulled today from a sheriff and he asked why I was swerving while I pass this guy I told him when I gas it the Torqe moves the front tires to the left ond right. He said I have drive many front wheel drives and never felt that. I WSNT BORN YESTERDAY. I couldn't believe it.
Other reviewers could learn a thing or two from your reviews… great job❤ . Curious, could you tint that Sky roof. I’m in the same bald head category,😂 Second question. ever run winter tires on the F150 or will on the GMC
Hey there, what was the name of that company you sold? I need to get something developed and I'm looking for an engineering company that specializes in electric mobility and batteries and is in the US. I saw how best tugs operate a few years ago and recently thought about reaching out to your brother about this exact thing.
What about Apple CarPlay? I love my lightning as well, thinking about going with the GM product (Chevy Silverado EV) and I’m wondering how the world is WITHOUT Apple CarPlay?
Efficiency and noise aside, the practicality of having a big battery and inverter to run tools or whatever other AC loads off the truck is a big upgrade on gasoline!
Just ask the fire departments and owners on the East coast about those EV’s and big Battery power supplies. Rather than buy 2 different vehicles I’ll stick to a gas and a diesel that is capable of doing everything. I get 24-26 mpg in my deleted diesel and haven’t had to touch my engine since deleting it. I can also drive about 945 miles on a single fuel up with my small extended fuel tank too. Which means if I’m not driving on road trips I don’t have to visit the gas station but once a month.

Ah, thanks so much
thank you for this detail. This is what every buyer wants to hear BEFORE they buy.
I hope Ford sees this. I agree Mike with you.
Glad to see you're still out there. Haven't seen you for a long time. Keep doing it, I'll watch you.
Really nice review of the GMC. I'm impressed with what they've managed to do with it.
I bought my wife a model 3 a few years ago. We both liked it so much that we sold our last gas car this year and bought a model Y for me. I bet GM can fix the torque steer issue with a firmware or maybe even a software update.
That was an amazing review. Thank you for taking the time to do it. Sooo so thorough.
Glad it was helpful!
Mark, you are awesome on this review, the biggest thing is you are very honest in your assessment of both trucks,
You did so well I have not questions! And I bet the GMC would pull an Aircraft.
I appreciate that!
Always a good show......
I had a Silverado back in 02 that was Quadrasteer, I loved it! Glad that brought it back even if only for the electric…..
I'm an early Tesla investor but I hate the CyberTruck and bought a Rivian R1S. I absolutely love how quiet it is on the road.
I have heard very little of the lightning but never of the GMC. I hope that this video was as fun for you to make as it was entertaining and informative for me to watch, most of what you explained here was unknown to me, but now I know. I don’t care for EVs. But they are for some folks. Your review was exceptional, Mark! Love you and Mike! Great content!
Why don't you care for them?

I would like to see a comparison between either one of these two trucks and a Pilatus PC-12. Seriously. Think about this. Would be epic.
😂 love it!
Love the front storage
We miss your videos.
When do you think we will get something new from Mike?
Miss his also!
Best truck review I’ve ever seen. Only thing I’d add is a driving demo to show examples of the driving experience
I actually like the look of the lightning, think it’s cool that it looks like any other truck
Thanks for sharing.
A real convincing review. Everything you said made sense to me.
I really did not know how capable and practical these trucks have become.

I love my Lightning too! It's my absolute favorite. I also own a mach e. I love that too.
Great reviews! Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Superb break down. Best real world comparison. This review will help so many people, both great trucks!!
How are you getting 2.2mi/kw? We live in southern Utah and we get 1.8mi/kwh the last 12 months mix of city and freeway driving.
You must be doing more freeway than me. That high speed travel kills the range.
Matt that was great. When you started on the Lightning towing I was aware how good the GM or Sierra is so not surprised when you spelled it out. The extra "bed" makes it very cool for me!
I don't have range anxiety. I aim to drive my battery down to zero, when driving home or to another place with known alternate chargers on the way. Tesla does predict range reliably (once navigation is on).
Please go drive the BMW i5 M60. It’s by far the smoothest, quietest car I’ve ever owned.
Wow, I'm not even remotely in the market for a truck but I still enjoyed watching this. It seems like GM got a lot right with that Sierra Denali. I have always been weary of Tesla, given all the problems they have had, and all the failed promises. You are right the truck is boring looking, but it's also a sleeper.
That is a really nice range on the GMC though.
I should have waited for the end of the video to comment. That GM has some really cool features.
Loved this video. I hope Ford watched this and their next version of Lightning gets much better.
What do you want improved on besides range?
The standard F150 frame does not have maximum space between frame rails.
This will change on gen-2 so more batteries can be squeezed in.
Better Blue Cruise, nicer interior, flow through storage,
Appreciate your honesty
Not even in the country or in the market, but this was a great video discussing your thoughts on ev trucks, Great watch honestly thanks.
I appreciate that!

@markpatey is on record hating plumbers. 🤣
Hahaha
When Chevy Says "We will never redo the Avalanche again!!" and then proceeds to make an electric truck that is basically an Avalanche....
GMC dropping apple carplay is a deal breaker
Super review.🙂🙂
Thank you 🙂
Im the opposite of Mike, I’m anti electric ⚡️, after this review…..welllll, I might be reconsidering my position!
One question. Do u park it on the garage. That’s all I need to know
Great review of Ford and GMC. All things considered I prefer my old "dumb* truck with crank windows, Vortec 5.7, AM/FM and no payments.
From what I've heard, Ford is pretty much done with the Lightning anyway... Sales are too low.
I expect it will be discontinued soon.
Hopefully, Ford will resume production some day.
Wow, too bad about the torque steer on the GMC, range anxiety would be hard for me because I like to take random side roads. Hybrid for retirement I reckon
Great comparison and I think you made your decision on the GMC! kWhs versus kW. kWhs is the energy.
Need to place a home charger at the cabin. Then, purchase a Rivian or a new EV Silverado for the EV look, range, and performance. You will definitely look back at it as you walk off. Correct, The Litening is a basic F150.

I'm truly surprised regarding your dislike of noise while driving, considering how noisy flying an aircraft is. Great video!
Love it!
So glad!
Thanks Mark , get review . Your vehicle values align nicely with mine. Nice objective fact based review.
Great not get.
In 10 years these cars will have no value because the battery replacement will be cost prohibitive.
