Huge NRPS fan since their 1st album. Thanks, Jerry, and John Dawson, Jerry for putting New Riders together, Marmaduke for writing these great songs. Love love love Lonesome LA Cowboy. My husband had never heard them when we met in 1978, same with Gram and FBB, but I made sure to rectify that. This song is important to me, because I was born in LA and spent my first 20 years down there, I loved the lyrics, “I’ve been smokin dope, snorting coke, Trying to write a song, Forgetting everything I know till the next Line comes along “, so 70’s LA, I guess so 70’s everywhere….also appreciate that they didn’t leave out the “Kris & Rita, & Marty Mull, meting at the Troubadour, They’ll get it on with The Joy Of Cooking”, like so many do covering this song. I remember those days & I did see Kris and Rita in 1973.😊❤
I don't know about you guys but everytime I see and listen to Mapache I think about Simon and Garfunkel. They harmonice so well together, always pay attention to each other and just really feel the music. They're such a hidden treasure!
There is no substitute for true talent. It's so great to see a younger generation grab hold of some Real Music like this song. And yes that pedal steel - one of the best sounds ever!! U guys nailed it. Keep up the Grate :) Work
been listening to Mapache 1st LP.... loving it... but this song about kills me because I'm an old guy and too close to what this song is about ... can't believe 45 years or so later some young people are listening to this ... hanging out and hanging on ... so do they know Joy of Cooking ... check it out
I can't believe how good and true they are! I always loved this song from the New Riders of The Purple Sage! It can't be done better than this! Thank you so much!! Cheers from Argentina!
This was one of my all time favorite songs. I was a senior in high school running around with my student teacher 4yrs difference. She introduce me to snorting coke.
And just noting too, the harmonies come close -- almost close -- to sounding like Peter Rowan (who wrote the song). There's a great version he played with Old and in the Way out there.
The first New Riders album was fantastic because Jerry was playing pedal steel and leading the group. But IMHO this was the best New Riders song post Jerry, except Panama red but that is a cover. Mapache is wonderful. Originals or covers. I hope they cover more 70's hippie country cowboy rock. Or maybe some Bobby Weir covers of covers.

New Riders of the Purple Shred!
i got into the Dead in the 80's and it just opened up a whole world of great music that I might have otherwise never heard
The Neil Young in the beginning did not go unnoticed
alabama
Came here to say this lol.
@@cszollinger same ahahah
Saw the new riders of purple sage sing this maybe a dozen times. 50 yrs later it's still just as enjoyable.
Great rendition. THANKS
Me too. I love this song and it feels so good to see a new young generation of kids enjoying it too. This made my day... :)
Beautiful. Buddy Cage would be proud. RIP Buddy.
Salute!
This is sublime. Sending positive waves from the UK
is there anything sweeter sounding than a pedal steel?
Only when it's playing new riders tune
Yes, there is. Hearing the remastered tracks of Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii in '72.
Nope.
Nope.
It was nice to meet you Sam! Uber from Oakland

Wow this is a special group!
Wow, NRPS flashback with the pedal steel...
And just noting too, the harmonies come close -- almost close -- to sounding like Peter Rowan (who wrote the song). There's a great version he played with Old and in the Way out there.
That pedal steel performance is stunning.
This is Peter Rowan's song. He wrote many amazing classic songs.
Midnight Moonlight!!!
Old and In the Way, bluegrass heaven
Why is it so fitting that Clay has a Trader Joe's nametag?? Love it
Great to see played. Awesome.
Please come to Van Island, we'd love to have you.
You have beautiful souls guys!
Wow. Perfection
Great 70's Dead Head song. I saw the New Riders with the Dead twice in Boston. Hard to remember though as I was so stoned. lol

What does Mapatche mean. Last name of a couple of these guys?
A little late, but it's Spanish for raccoon.
Found you on TUMBLR.
Burrito bros Esque
Do you still work at TJs?
Is this song a cover or an original mapache song?
NRPS
SHRED
I like the tempo a little quicker, otherwise very good on everything else.
Dan Horne sweet face
I am here from grateful shred
bring
🥰🪐🚀 🤟
Fuggin raised in La Cañada… these boys are talented just like The Beach Boys… but they are as much “country” as The Beach Boys were “surfers”.
so good. the people on their phones make me smh tho
B+ for effort, but these boys can’t do it like the New Riders!
Hard to beat Jerry Garcia with his super group, "On and In The Way." Peter Rowland X 5!
Ed Meurer Old and In The Way are of course, the originals, but damn it’s hard to beat NRPS. both had wonderful help though!
I was hoping this was a Peter Rowan cover... tight vocals compared to original.
Needs to have the original opening steel guitar.. Come on
I really dislike how high in the mix the upper harmony is.. should be at least 8 dB lower :/
This version is awful...
