Excellent idea. Will give that a try. My father also suggested I cut a wood plank to the correct width and drop it into the vice. It will then also act as a stop and it will not bother you as it will just lie on the guides.

A friend of mine used smokeless 45-70 loads in his martini and it almost took off his shoulder. He also said there were severe pressure signs. I bought my brass at a place here in SA called Blunderbuss Gun and Sport. It is in Alberton, South Africa. You could also google Kloppers Bloemfontein South Africa, they also stock lathe turned brass.
