I didn't appreciate the way England musical press treated Talk Talk in the early 1980's! Everybody else know that Talk Talk was by far the best thing England had. And they still are 40 years later!!!!

For their first couple of albums, TT was just another synth pop outfit. Once they evolved, they attracted rave reviews.

In the Eighties, as a teenager, I ignored everything that smelled like Pop. I was more into Hard Rock, Blues Rock etc. And now, in my fifties, I discover what a fabulous, creative, influential band Talk Talk was. Wish I could have seen them live. Can't stop listening to "Life's what you make it" but especially to "Spirit of Eden". What a masterpiece!

As a teenager you should have not have ignored anything. You should have assessed it all, given all a good hearing, found gems and weeds.

Its always cool to be able to reassess what you may have previously not had a taste for. That seems like growth to me. We come to things in our own time. I certainly wouldn't judge someone based on what they did or didn't like as a teenager.

Hollis was a visionary artist, who flatly refused to play the record company game. After the massive success of TT's two previous albums, he put out the jazz, rock fusion masterpieces Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. It showed extraordinary courage, but proof for future artists that came after Talk Talk to follow the muse wherever that led and not to cop out for commercial reasons and lose integrity. Ultimately integrity is all a true artist has in life. R.I.P. Mark you inspired so many of us to take chances.

    • @albinobeach
      @albinobeach 10 месяцев назад +28

Yes, to add to that, he gave up performing music and concentrated on being a father after that. Mainly because he didn't want to compromise their upbringing by focusing on touring. I have so much respect for him as an artist and a person.

But there are three bands that I would say that doung so never grew old, and were fresh and rewarding every single time they went on stage. Talking Heads, Porcupine Tree, and of course, Talk Talk. Magnificent band. Utterly magnificent.

I actually GOT to meet them/him in Maastricht, Netherlands. I forgot the year but I remember how small the venue was, there could not have been more than 100 people there. Very personal. At 63 I'm now reliving these moments with my girlfriend who has the same age as I was back then - how awesome to do this now... RIP Mark, what a ride you gave us!

    Absolutely amazing!
Sometimes the algorithm really offers a treat. Even old rockers like me find it impossible to not bow down in absolute respect to a band like Talk Talk. Mark Hollis should be honoured like the absolute genius he was. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten, every time I hear his voice it makes me close to tears with awe.
RIP Mark Hollis, gone but never ever forgotten. LEGEND!

The only opportunity I ever had to see them was in 1984 when they played the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater in S. California. At the time I wasn't that familiar with their music and don't remember even being aware that they were playing there. Now, given what I know and how much I love this band, I would pay obscene amounts of money to see them. So sad that Mark is no longer with us. His music touches my soul like none other.

Unglaublich. Zum Glück habe mir die CD Live in London gekauft.

Talk Talk were not in my listening radar when they started, but when Gary Davis played a track from Spirit of Eden on Radio 1 whilst I was at work, (my first job after college), I was mesmerised. Went and bought the album. Spirit of Eden, Laughing Stock and Mark's solo album are three masterpieces that I never tire of listening to. I've since completed my back catalogue of their albums and have a dvd of Live at Montreaux, so I've caught up! It's such a shame that Mark died so young. I know he had departed from the music business, but he may have come back. That we will never know. I've also purchased some solo Tim Friese Green albums, which are interesting.

What a sensitive, and sensual, singer Mark David Hollis was!
For the last time performing in his home town, and he probably knew.
His closest loved ones must have been there, and who knows even Caroline and Renée, somewhere in that ecstatic crowd. Awesome.
Thank you very much for "sharing this film with the world" and with coming generations, indeed!
