There needs to be spruced up official live stuff like this released officially, take my money, having the piano stand out in the chorus of it's my life nails you to the wall... I've loved talk talk since I was 12 now 48 and Mark hollis passed away a few days before losing a close relative and I was upset about both at the same time... Shit losing great people eh.
"Underrated" is the word that I would use with Talk Talk. When people talk about legendary new wave and Synth pop bands, Talk Talk is never mentioned when they are on equal height with bands like Joy Division, the Cure and Depeche Mode. But all the same that made that they've always kept that "Best kept secret" mystique about them.
I was 16 in January 1986 and I was really happy about this band and bought The Party's Over and It's My Life on cassette albums. Then in early summer when Talk Talk, New Order and Depeche Mode were to play a concert here in Denmark at the same place on the same night, one after the other my mother would not let me go. I still bear a grudge after all these years. I have made do with bootlegs of this tour but eventually spent the money on eBay buying the official CD which is great and all. But I would have been happy to just actually be there for one evening in my life. I never got to see either band live. I suppose I could go see Depeche Mode. But I am now old and set in my ways... As good as DM still is they are not putting on the same show they did 35 years ago. When they had already played for 5 years and become a household name. My mothers assessment of DM then: "it is very repetitive music". Me: Yeah ?
Only a few bands can sound like this live. Unbelievable!!!! Mark Hollis, his voice is so unique. I never get tired of listening. Such a shame version is fantastic. Thanks for this philhonley.
