This surprised me. I thought they would only celebrate church days. Valentine's day and Sweetest Day especially. I never heard of Sweetest day until I worked for hallmark.
Happy Birthday Sister Martha Ross! Sounds Thanksgiving was still good! Looks like Christmas was still nice and I am glad you got pizza on that day at least!
First of all- HAPPY BIRTHDAY Martha!!🎂As always, very interesting. Obviously Amish families love to gather together, which is a great thing. Are there any special church services around Christmas and Easter? Was the great spiritual significance of those days focused upon at all? It did not seem like it from your description. It was nice that your father would read the Christmas story from the Bible.
They would preach a little about the Christmas story and the resurrection at Easter, but it was more like a story and not so much like real happenings, I guess. It's hard to explain. But it wasn't really a special service, just a little different preaching. Sometimes, they'd have a little different meal after church on Christmas weekend.
Super interesting! It sounds similar to how I go through the year as a Catholic Christian, except for me Halloween is the Eve of All Saints Day. 😊 So, I go to church either on Halloween in the evening or in the day on November 1st to remember the Saints praying for us in heaven. 😊 Thanks!
Have a very Happy Birthday. I would be interested in what the gifts actually were that were given on Christmas. I have heard that they were not very expensive and for children things like the faceless doll, crayons and color book, carved wooden toys like cows, horses, or birds, or candy.
Okay, I'll do a video on that in the future. In my community, we have expensive gifts. We didn't have wooden toys or faceless dolls. I think that is swartzentruber Amish.
Very beautiful, thank you for explaining to us ❤ Sounds similar to Christian Orthodox church ❤ And, btw, NO one should celebrate Halloween, the devil holiday. Jesus Christ is the Lord ❤
Well, Halloween is just All Saints Day, and it was actually originally celebrated in May. The Pope moved it to the first day of November, so now Western Christians usually observe All Saints Day in November and Eastern Christians celebrate it in May. Fun fact. 😊 A lot of people, like Neo pagans, try to claim the holiday for themselves without realizing its Christian roots, I think….If you come from an Orthodox background, I’m assuming you’d celebrate All Saints Day in May, right? …I do think that when All Saints Day was moved to November, it correlated with a pagan holiday. People speculate that this may have been done to actually help bring pagans into Christianity because the Celtic people observed Samhain at the same time. If this was the reason All Saints Day was moved, it was done so to help people understand the notion of death through a Christian lens. But…it’s a really fascinating history. 😅I think a lot of the stuff about Halloween being the devils’s holiday comes from Puritan anti-Catholicism, but Halloween is just Old English for Holy Eve…The devil doesn’t get a day that’s called “holy.” But, whether you agree with me or not, just some interesting history to ponder. 😅 Now…I do think modern society and consumerism encourages some not so great things on Halloween. All the focus on the devil actually makes me really uncomfortable, so I try hard to reclaim the Christian roots of this day by going to church and celebrating All Saints Day. I think it is a good time to ponder our mortality, but the devil doesn’t deserve all that attention. I think that what consumerism has done to Halloween is really unhealthy and kind of sad.
Happy Belated Birthday ❤.

Happy birthday from me here in England
Happy Birthday! 🎁
Happy birthday Martha God bless you
I think maybe you have memorial Day and Labor Day switched. For camping, it would be warmer at Labor Day in September than memorial Day in May
I think you are right!
Happy birthday!! Mine is November 9.
Thanks! Happy birthday to you!
Thanks @@AmishTransformed
Hi Ann, did your family make chicken corn soup during any of these celebrations?
Isn't there a lot of singing for Christmas?
Sometimes.
