    For anyone considering following or taking lessons from Lauren.....I'm a retired pro musician. Stumbling around YT I found this. This is an excellent video for beginning guitarists. It's easy to understand, well presented, provides a few good examples for each progression, and is not overly complicated or long. The best part? It feeds your desire to play and to continually learn, simply by making it easy for you to play many songs, today. Great job, Lauren! And no, I do not know Lauren, nor has she paid me to write this.
    Get out your guitar, and play... you'll make mistakes, but remember, you learned to walk by falling down.

      Agree... I'm a jazzer, and haven't really paid much attention to contemporary music for the last 30 years, but I'm wanting to do more 'round the campfire' kind of playing. These kinds of videos are great (plus, I'm rarely playing in open position in jazz, so this is also helpful). Yes, I know the chords, but I can't quote relevant music aside from jazz tunes. Thanks!
      Also weird not having sharped/flatted 5, 9, 11, 13 etc. lol

    I love my Crafter D6 acoustic guitar someone gave me. I own tons of high-end and vintage acoustics and all I play is my Crafter, It's got the most even voice and best intonation of any of my guitars. Crafter.... a goofy name, but a great axe!

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  2 года назад

      Love my Crafter too.

    • @ParaBellum2024
      @ParaBellum2024 2 года назад

      Crafter guitars are excellent. I own a TCO-35, a DE-8/12 string, a GAE-8 and a GAE-9, so far. I'm breaking it to my wife gently, that they also make the GAE-6, 7, 12, 15, 24, 33 etc... I had a slight buzz on my GAE-8, caused by the nut being slightly too low, so I've just stuck a folded piece of paper (0.010") under it and the improvement is staggering.

    • @guitartec
      @guitartec 2 года назад

      @@ParaBellum2024 Just sayin here, but you should fix the nut properly. Either buy a new GraphTech TUSQ nut or an unbleached 43mm nut and have it installed by a tech at your fav shop or at the very least, do the superglue and talc temporary fix for the low slot in your current nut. If done right with the correct nut files, that can last for years.

    • @ParaBellum2024
      @ParaBellum2024 2 года назад

      @@guitartec Thanks. I've teched my own guitars for years, and if this nut had been bad, might have replaced it, but as it was, the whole thing just needed to be raised. My quick fix is no worse than superglue and bicarbonate of soda (not talc), and before long the paper will get dirty and fade from view. For those of us who are handy, creative, and own some decent tools, there's no need to pay someone else to carry out tasks such as this. The one time I did entrust a shop to do a job (fitting a nut to a telecaster), they made a pig's ear of it.

    _4-_5_6 , I had talk about the three chord trick,but wasn't sure what exactly it meant.

    Best of times. I don't know any songs but I do know the Order of 5 cord progressions. Yesterday at the Dog park I had my Traveler out. I simply played with progressions with a few embellishments. To the surprise of many, my puppy sat at my feet and then most the other dogs came over to sit and listen. If it wasn't for Lauren, I would not have the Foundations to be able to do what I am 2 years later.

    Great instructions for those trying to learn guitar. Very easy to get someone up and playing songs quickly. Understand the chord progressions is essential to playing guitar. I've been playing quite a while now and because I am very familiar with so many chord progression I was playing with a woman who has hearing loss and had been a very good singer over the years, however. I was accompanying her during an informal group sing it was obvious she had trouble keeping on key. We practiced the songs and established the key she would sing each song but when we got in front to lead all of that practice went out the window. She changed the key of each song as she still has a powerful voice so I had to quickly adapt to each song to find the key she was in and play my song accordingly. Thanks to knowing these chord progressions and having an idea about where she was going to start it made what would have stomped my years ago, it was easy for me to do this. If you are really interested in learning guitar she will be a great teacher to learn from as she makes it easy to learn the chords and fit them all together.

    Hi, great lesson.
    Something that a lot of people struggle with.
    I'm a bass player and learning and understanding chord progressions is important for bass players as well.
    I know many people who think it's to difficult to learn or they might think it's boring and say, I just want to play.
    Many also quit after a short period of time after taking up the instrument.
    Well this is what you need to know so you can play, like the student you mentioned early in the video.
    It's really not that difficult to learn as your lesson shows in a simple and easy to understand way.
    Cheers

    Is pretty easy to transition...
    Until that black sheep D.
    Everything else centers around those 2 notes on the 2nd and 3rd frets. Easy peasy. That D is out there all by itself being a trouble maker.
    I did a little research into the circle of fifths before and this all makes perfect sense to me.
    I'm getting this a lot easier than I expected.

    Like so many songs that can be played with these chord progressions that just fit together in their respective keys it is worthwhile if beginning guitar players,and I am one,check out some videos on the circle of 5ths as you can see and begin to understand the various keys and the chords in them,major and minor and how these simple chord progressions form for each key.Yes its music theory but interesting and helpful once you start to understand it.
