Licensed cosmetologist here. Every persons hair is not thick whether it’s natural or chemically treated. Some hair is just naturally thin. The diameter of the hair also decreases as it reaches the ends of the hair strands which results in thinning ends. Thin ends don’t always equal split ends.

As a stylist…Just to let ppl know. Just because you see see through ends does not mean they are necessarily split. Just means thinning. But here yes, those are splits but I’m just saying when you are getting your hair trimmed. Unless the stylist will let you see there’s actual splits (as in strands that look like that have two heads or look like forks in the road) don’t just let them cut it. I can’t tell you how many close up videos I see when a stylist will cut hair unnecessarily just because it’s thin on the ends. Thin does not mean splits. Could be a diet change or hormonal changes that made your hair start growing thicker or even your hair routine!

The hair growing from the bottom of your head will hit your back sooner than the hair growing from the top, making the hair appear like it's thin wherever those stands don't overlap. • @shontijackson4047
      @shontijackson4047 Месяц назад +2

The split ends leads to hair breaking off where the split stops causing the strand of hair to be thinner. If all the stands are split and break off then you end up with thinning on the ends. The hair may be long but it is damaged, if not cut at or above the split then the strand keeps separating and the breakage is higher on the strand eventually breaking near the scalp. The best and healthiest decision is to cut

Here's my controversial take as a woman growing her hair for nearly a decade
    1) Those are just fairytale ends. Natural breakage and variation in length as each hair follicle has its own growth and fall cycle
    2) Split ends serve a purpose, now the "healthy hair" will just take the brunt of the damage and become the same
    3) If you want your hair longer, grow it longer regardless of if it fairytales (which some people find beautiful) or splits, and then trim to maintain once you reach your goal length, to gradually increase fullness
Tired of the fake war on "damaged hair" >_<
But salons have to make money..

Cutting hair to where only the strong and healthy is left (can be emotionally traumatic because of the attachment many have to the same hair they damage on a regular basis and don't show much love for when it comes to HEALTH vs Styles 🤷🏽‍♀️) I truly understand the feeling of only caring about length and thinking growth=healthy. Well I have committed every "sin" against my hair so, there is no judgment to anyone who is doing the same. But I learned how to be grateful that my scalp and hair follicles are enough to even GROW my hair. So I love how it looks and feels cut, but healthy and having PATIENCE that it will all grow back in time (probably faster) instead of leaving longer damaged hair there for length even if it looks fried and broken just to "say" I have long hair.
This realization has improved my self esteem and relationship with my hair SO much. It's a daily commitment, but looks and feels dramatically better than SplitsVille🙆🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️💇🏽‍♀️💆🏽‍♀️😊🤗.

Thinning ends are caused by breakage, and breakage eventually leads to splitting. Stylists know this more than anyone else, and both issues need to be resolved with a trim to ensure healthy and thick growth. Many of you are in denial and delusional about someone's actually profession over your discomfort. Which is why many stylists do not do the hair of delusional clients. I Don’t mean to be rude but why does thin versus thick ends automatically mean split. It is often not the case. We should start looking at groups who have long hair such as Indians. There is no excessive trimming but use of oil.
It is possible to have less hair at the ends without it being split. Her hair doesn’t look particularly nice like that, but did all of it have to be cut off? Was that all truly split?
One of the reasons many black people do not have long hair is due to the obsession with trims. A trim is not needed every 1-2 months. You can trim even once a year or less if you are caring for your hair and keeping it moisturized

I went to the same hairdresser for years before she retired. When I started with her, she said “I believe in healthy hair. If we work together, and you come on a regular basis your hair will be healthy and it will grow.” She stressed limiting heat, dying the hair at home, getting regular trims. I have fine hair that is various textures. I had a relaxer and discovered other hair dressers had been over processing my hair. Anyway, she put me on a schedule for trims, relaxers, and deep conditioning. She also told me I couldn’t get any color change that required bleach because my hair would severely break. Finally, she told me my hair represented her and she didn’t want a client who wouldn’t work with her and get and keep healthy hair. Anyway, I came to her with a pixie cut and ended up with hair almost to my bra strap. And I had a relaxer the entire time! Yes, she trimmed my hair every time she relaxed it. Also, when I came to her my hair was over processed and cut short to cover up the damage. She was very transparent and I miss her. I went through several stylists before I got a good one. She guided my hair from relaxed to natural and through a bout of alopecia that was caused by stress. It’s extremely important to have a trusting relationship with your hair dresser. You both have to agree on a plan for your hair. If the person you’re going to doesn’t do a consultation and suggest a plan. Get out of the chair. You’re in the wrong place.

Yeah Shatara, it's maybe having split ends but cutting it from back does not justify her hair. There you chopped large amount of healthy back hair. I don't think judging that she has split ends by pushing hair back is justice to her hair. The hair should be divided into small section to determine that. Remember the shape of the head is not a flat surface but it takes spherical or circular shape. So according to pushback you did, it does not justify split ends at all. I can tell from experience

As a retired hair care professional, it is no such thing as thinning at the ends without some form of damage such as split ends and knots leading to breakage.
People who say they don't have split ends but their hair is see through like this, it's because they HAD split ends /knots and the split or knotted hair already broke off. This causes damage which is why it looks this way.
If your hair is thinning (excessive shedding), it will NOT just thin on the ends like this. It will be thin FROM THE SCALP too. As you can see, this client has not addressed her spilt ends for so long that at least 2 inches of hair must be cut.
It is practically impossible to see the health if coily hair without it being straight. Do not believe for a minute that damage has not occurred.
