"The Classic 9" lineup: Phillip Bailey, Larry Dunn, Johnny Graham, Ralph Johnson, Al McKay, Fred White, Maurice White, Verdine White & Andrew Woolfolk!
In their prime, there was no competition, period. They were the standard. If you saw them LIVE in the 70s, you know exactly what I'm talking about. They were head and shoulders above every other artist. 😏🫶🏾♥️🎤🎵🎼🏆🥇
They sure can give you that happy feeling! Such a great group, amazing talent!! Never got to see them live, but I played their albums over and over! 😄🎉💜
@@standaman1963 It was definitely the best era for music! I came to this channel to relive watch musicians like Fleetwood Mac, Curtis Mayfield, etc that I watched on The Midnight Special and felt like I was watching them live
I saw the EW&F in 1975 in Buffalo. ZZ Top opened for them. It's about the best show I've seen and I've seen many. I'll never forget the energy level of this song. Unreal.
If you saw them after April 1975, then you witnessed the 'Gratitude' Tour, of which the double album was made. I saw this tour as well in Dallas in July 1975. Best concert I've gone to, before or after, and I have gone to at least 80 over the years. Saw EVERYBODY back in the day: MJ, Jacksons, Tower of Power, Rufus, Commodores, War . . . .Isleys . . .way to many to recount here. Chicago, Deep Purple, Doobie Brothers, Sly, Graham Central Station, parliament, Bootsy, Brothers Johnsons, Ojays, Emotions , . . .. . . .
Gracias por su gran conocimiento de música....maurice white..en verdad un verdadero ídolo a gran escala ..sin comparación.. sencillo humilde gran familia y su gran hermano verdine..a cargar con su gran estiló 😊
This was prior to their hit Boogie Wonderland. Four and a half years prior, in fact, but it comes from their strongest album That’s The Way Of The World which was hot on the charts that spring. Some of you probably know the song Reasons. This is the album it came from. The springtime of my high school prom. I basically injected this album into the veins of my soul then.
The guys on the saxophone and clarinet(?) Are playing multiple instruments! That's ridiculous. You just don't see that anymore. Multi talented and versatile. It's awesome to see! That's why I love them SO MUCH!!!
@@harmonygritz2839-Actually he’s was playing a Tenor Saxophone 🎷 before putting down Soprano. If it was a Baritone, it would be way bigger. In fact if you ever get the chance, check out their 1978 concert 🎶 & if you look 👀 at the Phenix Horns you’ll see the late Don Myrick playing a Baritone Sax 🎷 on the song “Jupiter” 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 !!!
In the beginning Maurice hired female singers for the lead while he sang background vocals and concentrated on drums, when Philip came on board Maurice was forced to come out front and sing the man parts however he can go in that range like Philip. The vocals in the group would be Maurice, Philip, Verdine & Ralph, hope this helps 👍
I remember as a youngster anticapating to watch them in The Midnight Special. I can only remember them airing them play Shining Star. I wanna say i first saw them singing Yearning Learnin, Mighty Mighty and Devotion. Today i finally see them playing Happy Feelin. Maybe i fell asleep too early😂.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song before. I think they’re called a soprano sax and an alto sax maybe? It looks like that’s what the horn player is playing and I believe their ranges are different. Maybe Kenny G. plays a soprano sax? But it’s interesting because the lead singer - Maurice is his name? - is singing really high in his range and usually Phillip Bailey does that. But I’ve seem EWF a couple times in concert, once on a Seattle Pier outdoors and that was a fun concert as it was an unusually beautiful day in Seattle.
"The Classic 9" lineup: Phillip Bailey, Larry Dunn, Johnny Graham, Ralph Johnson, Al McKay, Fred White, Maurice White, Verdine White & Andrew Woolfolk!
Johnny Graham doing double duty on the axe and the horn!
I remember playing this album on my little record player. The level of musicianship is off the charts.

I think Kool & The Gang put up good live shows too, but I cant decide if they're better or EWF is better.
@@kool-808When you add the vocals on top of the musicianship, horn and rhythm arrangements, and compositions, EW&F are unsurpassed.
Parliament FUNKADELIC
Seeing Johnny Graham playing trumpet was something that I did not expect at all.
Exactly!
Just noticed that.
That was so cool to see him switch back and forth between the two instruments.
Wow these guys are great musicians
Fred and Ralph on drums.. rare.. they never aired this in the VH1 rebranding. Prime EWF Johnny Graham!! 🎸
Earth wind and fire the greatest band ever imo, peak and prime they were beating, respect and appreciate
The level of musicianship is crazy.
I mean, brass AND guitar, and killing it at that.
One of the best bands for decades.
They sure can give you that happy feeling! Such a great group, amazing talent!! Never got to see them live, but I played their albums over and over! 😄🎉💜
I was born in 1963 and I'm still gob smacked that we got to see phenomenal music while sitting on our couches!
You and I were born in the same year. The best era of music was the 70s, and it's not even close.

I have always thought Verdine White was the secret ingredient to their sound. The bass playing is off the charts.
He might be one of the most underrated bass players ever, so creative and funky!

@@fostermac7170 My memory is hazy but it was 75' I think. They sounded great in an auditorium notorious for bad sound.
Wow, they are so good. Amazing band. I was listening to them in the 70’s. ❤
Thanks E.W.F. 👍🏻👍🏻
Best concert I ever attended EW&F with Rufus & Chaka Kahn & Rahsaan Patterson.
When and where was this concert ??? Rufus Aaaaaannnnndddd Chaka Khan ????? Where ???
Classic performance from a legendary group.
RIP Maurice White (singer/leader/drummer/percussionist), Andrew Woolfolk (saxophonist) and Fred White (drummer)
You forgot Johnny Graham! R.I.P.
@@SenseofAwarenessI ain’t heard nothin’ ‘bout Johnny Graham dying. When and where did you hear that? ROLAND BAUTISTA, though, did die some years ago.

When did Johnny Graham pass, I didn’t hear nor see any posting about his passing ???
@cehayes74 Johnny Graham is still living my friend. I think he meant to say Roland Baptisa
Hot on the heels of their #1 album That's The Way Of The World. Amazing
🌬️💨😇☀️💫📀I WAS 17 YEARS OLD WHEN YOU GUYS PRODUCE THIS SONG, AND STILL ENJOY THIS SONG TODAY!!! ***MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL***✌️☺️🤗😉🥰🚙💨💦❣️
Awesome ❤❤🎉🎉🎉
That was some high-energy performance. They were definitely "Feelin' Happy"
Happy Friday 🥳 Thank you for sharing! 💖

One of the greatest bands ever, the music is just so good. E.W.F never made a bad song. They just don't make bands and music this good anymore.
Awesome ❤️ one of my all-time favorite bands
Wow! Didn’t realize they had done so many songs in this one appearance. I’m geeking out.😅😅

Andrew Paul Woolfolk he plays with Earth Wind and Fire and Phil Collins but he died in 2022 and we miss him
Actually Andrew Woolfolk was playing a baritone saxophone, and then switched over to a soprano saxophone.

The stars of Earth Wind and Fire could not only sing, but they could play the drums!

This must have been before the Phenix horns. I did not know Johnny Graham played the trumpet.
