Phillip Bailey possessed one of the greatest falsetto singing voices ever recorded. I've often said, If everyone just dressed like EW&F the world would be a much better place.
It's great to see some early Earth, Wind and Fire before "September", "Boogie Wonderland" and "After the Love Is Gone". They deserved being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
No band has greater stage presence and audience command than the incomparable Earth Wind and Fire. I still lament the passing of the l8 gr8 Maurice White, one of my all time favourite musicians. Maximum love and respect. ❤️🎶🌟👍
Listen to that note at 2:44! That’s insane. I couldn’t sing that high if, I, well, had something or two in a vice. And then at 3:05 I think he hits the same note but holds it for an incredible length of time. It doesn’t seem possible. He must be able to take a lot of air into his lungs I’m guessing. And then around 3:14 he goes up a step maybe from there, perhaps a half step.
This is a great live peformance by the *mighty, mighty* EWF, the band that recorded my favorite concert album, period--- 1975's "Gratitude!" There were so many great concert albums in the '70s and '80s, but *nothing* can compare to "Gratitude" for me. The excitement on the live songs is incredible, and the studio songs are just as good too-- Sing A Song, Sunshine, the title track, Can't Hide Love... A *masterpiece* of an album!
My first Earth Wind & Fire single was Shining Star. Bought it at the age of 14. Next That's the way of the world, then Sing a song. All of them No. 1 Hits in the U.S.A. 🌟🎵🎶❤️🎶🎵🌟
Oh my God! What a treat! EWF started out with female leads.. Imagine Natalie as a regular featured vocalist! We were so blessed to have lived when these wonderful artists were with us! 😊😊

Wiki has Phillip Bailey listed as a current member of EWF. I saw them maybe 20 years ago in Seattle and I thought Phillip had just retired. But maybe he un-retired? At any rate I guess he had a four-octave range during his prime. I believe Mariah Carrey was five so Phillip was impressive as five is insane. I’m only guessing but I’ll bet good male singers usually are stuck in three octaves or fewer. But a vocal coach would know that. Anyways this must be a young Phillip Bailey I’m guessing based upon age and vocal ability.
He has been back with EWF for many, many years now. Maybe on the night that you saw them, he was sick and couldn't make the show. He is definitely young here. The video is from 1975.

Saw EWF perform last year and he still has the amazing falsetto! He hasn't lost it!
Great to see a show with no people staring at their phones.
I'm staring at my phone!
The band still tours, puts on a great live performance and makes you feel like singing and dancing. Thanks. 👍🎸😎✌️
Yep, went to see them a little over a year ago in Dallas, when they opened up for Lionel Richie……What a performance by both that night!!!

Loving it my fevorite group❤❤❤❤😊
We need more live Earth Wind & Fire content available, there’s so much more space in the beat without the studio click-track.❤

Philip Bailey & Phil Collins - Easy Lover ...had no idea
Minnie Riperton would be a better comparison to Bailey. Mariah not in the league.

@@christianman73 Phillip Baily was born May 8, 1951 so he would have been 23 at this taping in April 1975. Just a baby!😀😀
@@tonteaux1 That's right! The amazing thing is, by 1975, Phillip had already been a member of EWF for three years! 🙂
Philip is a great falsetto singer and percussionist
Maverick's Flat very own.
