I do not believe that there will be another band like EWF. I am almost 70 years old, and without going into divisive details, I can say that in the 1970’s, we all thought racial equality was in our grasp. Almost 50 years on, I am heartsick.
We are blessed to have grown up in this era. Everything it about was sensational. Music, fashion, cars, clubs and the men looked so good. No raggedy looking scrubs trying to talk to ya. So much class compared to now. They don't know what fun is.
Youre right, this song gives me nostalgic tearfulness. Ive watched them over 13 times in the USA, Europe and South America since i was 18. Im now 65 and it still hits me with tears.
I am 64 as well. Only saw them live once. I don't think they came to Pittsburgh very often. Or I just wasn't able to go when they were. However, still the best R&B of my lifetime.
EWF was the first concert i ever went to, August, Friday the 13th, 1976, Indianapolis, In., Market Square Arena, Ramsey Lewis, and the Emotions, I was a !7 yr. old white kid. BabyFace was in my high school, who was in a band called Tarnished Silver, and i've been hooked on soul music ever since. How can anyone listening, not feel the vibe, is beyond me. Everybody uP!!

Nope, they sure don't. i can name one new black band of 10 years old, not one. i really do believe that the industry controls what black people hear, because their are many local bands that are very very good like EWF.
I was born in the '70s, but I'm envious of those who were teens and adults during that time because there was so many outstanding musicians and performers. They say the golden era of hip hop was during the '90s (which was my coming of age), but I think the '70s was the golden era for RnB.
It was. The producers got cheap in the early 80s and with synthesizers and voice enhancers, they didn't have to pay big bands and real talent like EW&F.
This band has influenced me since my parents introduced them to me! Verdine inspired me to start bass lessons, Maurice taught me to tap into the spiritual side of music and Phillip taught me how to groove.

I was a questioning 11th grader and they completely spoke to me. I needed their joy and unapologetic optimism. We saw them in concert that year. Mind blown and heart full.
I'll never forget way back when I must have been all of 17 years old back in 77 or 78. I saw these guys at the Inglewood Forum from the 12th row on the floor. To this day the best concert I've ever been to. So grateful to grow up during an era of some of the best music you'll ever hear.
My two best friends recently died. One of them a month ago, the other a year ago. One night the three of us were hanging out on a Saturday night having ourselves a good time, laughing and driving around when my friend in the passenger seat asked my friend sitting in the backseat to sing for us. My friend in the backseat could sing very well and was in a gospel group with his brothers. He sang "a change gonna come". Little did I know that he was going to end up singing it to his funeral months later and now he's gone now too. These men were literally like brothers to me and now each time I hear this beautiful song, I dedicate it to them. Junie and JD, this is for you. My brothers

If you've ever listened to the lyrics of this song, "That's The Way Of The World", and you agree with them, then you're a card carrying liberal/progressive and you need not be made to feel ashamed that you possess a heart of gold. Had the honor of going to a EW&F concert last year. Verdine White is one of the greatest bass players in history. Phil Bailey greatest pipes. It literally changed my life.

So, I candidly don't know if there's a recorded bass track playing at concerts (or if the keyboardists help him on synth bass). The way this whole thing apparently developed is that there are a few recorded situations where Verdine made appearances with other top bassists (of our era) at jam sessions & master classes. In multiple instances, other well known bassists were quite skillfully showing off their mastery & artistry on the bass, while Verdine was fumbling & essentially sounded like a HS level bassist. I get the impression that it prompted folks in the "bass world" to start looking at Verdine a little funny. Here's one such appearance... Me and my friends are riding our bikes in Lincoln Park and im just wishing i was there. That's the concert where the drummer levitates and spins. I want to go back!

World class singing, world class lyrics, and world class musicians that unfortunately, due to the way music is processed these days, this much talent will never come together again on one stage. I have a 7 year old little girl that loves this music - over 3 decades later and they are still relevant!
