Marvelous Marvin Hagler - R.I.P. CHAMP Спорт
My parents met Marvelous in a cafe in Milan back in the 90s. My dad, who is a huge boxing fan, and always loved Hagler, approached him and asked very politely for an autograph, and Marvelous was very happy to oblige him.
My dad - who is British - took that opportunity to apologise for the fans at the Hagler v Minter fight. Hagler laughed his head off, patted my dad on the back and thanked him for the apology, but told him that it was cool because he'd visited the UK a few times since then and had always been made to feel very welcome. He then posed for a picture with my dad, and left.
My dad framed that picture and it's still up on the wall in their living room.
R.I.P. MMH. You were a class act and a true warrior.
P.S. Brilliant video. Thank you.
The reaction of the crowd after the Minter fight was a disgrace and an embarrassment to British boxing. I'm British and every boxing fan I know loves Hagler.
What a great story.
Beautiful story. Rest in Peace champ
Very cool story and I can see that happening, the man MMH was.
I love hagler since I was 10 years old I even hav two pet BIRDS name HAGLER
Marvellous Marvin Hagler, arguably the most complete fighter in the history of the sport. A truly great boxer.

Marvin Hagler a switch hitting boxing, very sad day, beyond legendary boxer
The switching of the stans was nothing short of amazing
He had it all. Power. Speed. Guts. You couldn't knock him down. A fight with Hagler was going to be a war. What a boxer!
Marvin trained hard every fight. Even when he was a rich man. Never took shortcuts. Rest in peace champ.
Ultimate professional
Man I'm one of the biggest Tommy Hearns fans out there and I have so much respect for Hagler. The man was an absolute Terminator, you couldn't stop him. He ruled the Middleweight division during it's greatest era. Very sad an icon of my childhood is gone. Rest in peace Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
Hello pal. I have a question. Do you think Hearns had dodgy legs from a too intense massage? His legs never looked solid but he was getting smashed around by Hagler but just wanted your thoughts?
@@marccas10 Get real.
The best thing we can say about Marvelous Marvin Hagler is that he kept the oath he made to his grandpa: that everyone will know the Hagler name. And he did.
Lautaro:
WOW! Thanks for sharing THAT.
Long LIVE the legacy of this
CLEAN, DEDICATED, TALENTED WARRIOR; Marvelous Marvin
H A G L E R
PS: Greenwood Tulsa Oklahoma
Would have been very proud of this accomplished soldier.
That's pretty badass
👍👑🙏
Is a German name.
He mentioned how he kept the promise on the night of his induction to the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame.
Who thinks it would be cool to see a movie made about him ...?
Who could play him and do the role justice?
A great idea though and I'd pay to watch it regardless.
Yeah, I would.
Just DON'T forget the scene of Marvin vowing to his grandfather concerning making the world know the name, HAGLER.
About that whole middle weight era..It was probably the best era of boxing i've ever seen and Marvin was central to that
A 10 x 1hour episode mini series on nexflix.....there is too much great events in his life to be crammed into a 2-3 hour movie.
Yes!!!
I was born and raised in Brockton, so Hagler was a legend in my household. He was as iconic as Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones. I still have my T-shirt from when I was 8. The news of his death was a gut punch. I had trouble falling asleep. He will forever be remembered as a symbol of my childhood excitement and envy.
Met him several time over the years while he was the champ. Saw him fight "Sugar" Ray Seales in the Boston Garden in 1979. Hagler was always gracious to his fans...he was a nice man...and a great champion. R.I.P. Marvin...and thanks for everything!!!
I met Marvin just before he fought for the championship against Vito.I trained with his brother Robbie Sims a couple times sparred with him, usually sparred with welterweights Doug Sherrin ,Danny Avery,James Lucas, Barry Hurst.Marvin was a class act he would come up to me and give me advice while hitting the bag ,I also am a left handed boxer.Marvin once refed an exhibition bout I had with one of the fighters from Petronellis, gym Steve Hillyard after he won the title from Minter.
@@hippocripocity great story mt u should be proud of it
If you build a fighter from the ground up it would be Hagler. One of the most complete fighters ever. RIP to the Marvelous one.
So true
Yes most definitely , spot on 😎
@@markisaac3550 f
Fr he was one heck of a switch hitter he’s what one of my boxing trainer wanted to be like everything we did right handed we learned left
Shocked by his death. Really thought that he was going to be around a lot longer. RIP Champ, you owned your weight class for all time. Everyone else falls short.
I cried at the news. Marvin Hagler. A real man. A real fighter. RIP Champ
He was my favorite because he didn't refuse anyone to a fight, in my mind he's undefeated 🥊
I am 55 and went into a room and cried when I found out. His death makes me feel more mortal. As a boxing fan of 55, he was at the forefront of boxing for a long time when I was in my teens. He was my hero. His reign was a great thing for the sport. He was the last of the GREAT champions. Champions have come and gone, but Marvelous Marvin Hagler was a GREAT champion.
I feel your pain brother. I wept in a car park when I heard Muhammad had gone 😢
We will never see a middle weight with the impact that Marvin had RIP champ🕊
Best Middle Weight of all time. The Leonard fight should have been a draw rhe very least....shitty judges
A true legend ....one of the greatest of all time .
Whenever people talk about boxing , wherever they are in the world , if they know there stuff , and they are of a certain age .....Marvin hagler will always be mentioned ...
@@Chasstful Amazing how he started his championship career getting cheated then ending his career too.
Marvin was the dependable, the grinder, the dedicated, the disciplined, the immovable....a stone. He was living proof that in this cynical world, hard work does pay off dammit!! if you're willing to put in the time. May he forever enjoy his silk sheets. Rest in peace.
Beautifully said.
A man whose back never saw the canvas. The epitome of the true south paw

Nobody said it better Rummy........RIP Marvelous Hagler.
That comment deserved its 100th like.
Yes beautiful eulogy Rummy.
One of the truly great men of boxing, humble with a heart and mind of stone, the Marvelous one
RIP Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
I envy you Steven for having said that and not me.
When our heroes pass, a piece of us goes with them. It's so hard to find new ones these days, but when we do, they give us new life

Its sweet knowing that you got to share one of the most incredible fights of all time with your father. You must have some amazing memories from it.
GREATEST POUND FOR POUNDS BOXER OF ALL TIME.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
R.I.P CHAMP
Most professional analyst have Sugar Ray Robinson as the P4P greatest of all-time. Marvin was def 'Marvelous', but not in the discussion as the goat....just being honest and realistic here man.
Agreed..no weaknesses
@@kardiackids1435 that's you're opinion!!! But in many people's eyes including mine he's the GOAT of the middleweight division!!! I'll say this, how many other boxers can say they have never been knocked down or knocked out!!! 🤔🤔🤔
@@kardiackids1435 .. Sugar taught the world how to throw aggressive hands in combination. Way ahead of his time. It all depends on how you rate greatness.
But if you actually think sugar could go 12 with Marvin.. Is really not even close. No one ever hurt this dude. Hearns did for 3 seconds.
@@kardiackids1435 he’s definitely in the discussion. “Most boxing analysts” isn’t “all boxing analysts”.
Greatest middleweight of all time RIP Marvin Hagler
Sugar Ray Robinson.
Good fighter. Greatest?? NO way. His biggest wins were against a blown. up lightweight (Duran) and one welterweight (Hearns) and a lost to a welterweight (Leonard). Please put down the purple drank~!!!!
You said it!! All heart, total package R.I.P
@@johnjuarez8005 Hearns ended as cruiserweight champ, Duran super middleweight champ and Leonard is one of the greatest *(and he really lost against Hagler) he also beat Autofermo, Roldan, Mugabi etc.
@@johnjuarez8005 your posting bullshit.MMH was goat middleweight.
Muhammed Ali might have been the greatest but only one man was truly Marvellous.... rest in peace champ.
You are a fantastic fan/observant of the sport, Geoffrey. So much of what you said in this video reminded me of my childhood memories with my Dad (now passed) staying up into the early hours in England watching those US fights. Thank you, I feel the Marvelous one would approve and appreciate this.
He and Salvador Sanchez were my childhood heroes. This hits hard
I hear you.
Marvelous Marvin was a great champion.
It's sad that many people don't know who he was and the impact he had, not only in boxing, but in the sports world in general.
And it's also sad that Salvador Sanchez has been forgotten over the years as well.
Sanchez was a tremendous champion and one of the greatest pound for pound fighters of all time.
Salvador Sanchez was a beast in his short boxing career!
Same here!
Granite chin, never knocked down, tough as nails, fearless, iron will, southpaw power hitter, honest, hard-working, never talked bullshit, and was ripped-off with the absurd Leonard split-decision (anyone can run to a championship, but "can you fight!"). Marvin was a true fighter. RIP champ, you were, are and always will be, the Marvelous One.
Absurd Leonard decision.. Come on man.. Very close fight.. Leonard won.. Fair decision.. To say absurd is fury wilder 1.
@@GeorgeFreeman55 Never in a million years. Marvelous WON it.
@@GeorgeFreeman55 fixed fight that leonard still lost.....thats how bloated and padded that phoney truly is
@@GeorgeFreeman55 No, you don't get points running. But then if he didn't run it would have been worse than the first Duran fight.
118-110 was absurd. And yes he did get ripped off. Hagler said it best, you're not supposed to take the title away from the champion by running
HEART-BREAKING!!!!! I am 51 had trained fighters & boxed over 40 years. I watched Marvelous Marvin Hagler boxing career & just how this Brother Overcame the Odds every time he stepped in that ring, he was all business. SEARCH-&-DESTROY was his motto when he fought his opponent's. Master Technician Master Tachtician. Fought the south paw style but also was diversitile. Master boxer of the true sweet-science of superior boxing. Always in shape and never trash talked his opponent's... But Only let his Punches do the talking for him when that Bell ranged. I am crushed & devestated to see him leave us do soon. REST-IN-POWER-CHAMP
Because 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 Champion's like you don't die... But Live Forever in Our Hearts.......................
RIP Hagler. And Rummy kinda sounds like Ray Liotta from Goodfellas.
Hagler ducked absolutely NO ONE! Truly a platonic boxing champion.
Mike mccallum says otherwise
Well said
@@Jaiden.jones91 lol I've read that but I really don't remember mcallum being touted as an opponent he was really just coming through.
@@Jaiden.jones91 McCallum was a great boxer but, by 1987, his line of opponents was far from Hagler's opponents. Once he did step-up in class Hagler was retired. Plus Hagler fought once in 1987 (Sugar Ray), once in 1986 (Mugabi), once in 1985 (Hearns).
I don't think this fight could have been made, the timing was wrong.
@@Jaiden.jones91 I seriously doubt that, lol. The McCallum that got his ass kicked by Kalamby? His resume is lacking by comparison. I like Mike alot but he doesn't compare.
Rummy you are the finest maker of boxing films on RUclips. Respect from Bristol, England
Well said Rummy. I've always liked your videos, may not always agreed, but always liked them. This said so much for me and mirrored my love of Marvin's boxing. Thank brother, well said.
In Freeport Bahamas he was out driving on vacation lost miles from his hotel, I happened to run into him liberally while out jogging and gave him direction.
It's a shame that his name was not talked about as much as it should..top 3 middleweight IMO...RIP champ
I know right.
I was disappointed that there was very little media coverage of Marvelous Marvin Hagler's passing.
He was a great champion and a decent human being.
For me, he's right behind Sugar Ray Robinson as the greatest middleweight of all time.
Hagler faced everyone that Ray ducked.
1. He civilized The Caveman
2. He made the Scipion drink from a sippy cup.
3. He hammered the Martillo into submission.
4. He took out the The Hitman.
5. He put the mustard to Mustafa.
6. He tamed The Beast into a house cat.
7. He dishes a plate of justice to Brit who said, "no Blackman is gonna take my title".
In his own house. They rioted .
8. He served a great plate of spaghetti to Vito.
9. He made a sissy marathon runner of an Olympian. Ray deserved a draw.
He basically destroyed everyone in his path and that to me makes him the greatest middle weight ever. Long Live the King Marvelous Marvin Hagler and may God keep him in his kingdom. God speed my brother. RIP.🥊🇲🇽🥊🇺🇲
Leonard didn't duck anyone!
Great, try telling that to Mike McCullum.
Beautifully put together mate!
The man was a beast, ALWAYS in tremendous shape. Loved watching the Marvelous One fight.
Mark l love Marvin Harper but in defence of minter he never said no black man he actually said that black man..
Beautiful tribute. When we watch a great sportsperson with our dad it has that extra meaning behind it when they pass away, it evokes all those memories.
Marvin has only passed on. His spirit now onto the next level. God blessed him and us. Less of the depressive tones and be thankful..,
He epitomised the term "Fighter". Hagler was a true warrior, a gladiator who will be remembered as a true great.
My pops who was also a major boxing fan and former kickboxer also passed away unexpectedly last January. We also have many great memories (starting in the 80s) of watching big fights together and attending big fights in the Los Angeles area. RIP to all of our love ones who have passed away since this pandemic broke out.
RIP to your old man.
Im sorry for your dad, RIP.
RIP CHAMP!
Any time I was looking for something to watch if I saw any one of his fights on it was an instant stop and watch moment.
So lucky to have "The War" as your first boxing fight you ever watched. For me it was watching Sugar Ray Leonard fight Roberto Duran for the second time. Not a terrible fight, but it didn't hold a candle to The War. Hagler was a gift to the sport, one of the greatest competitors I've ever seen, and his early demise is truly a tragedy. RIP.
Mr Hagler was a “blue collar “ fighter. His preparation for a fight was spartan like and he took on all opponents. Absolutely my favorite boxer. Comfort to his family.
Growing up in Boston he was my favorite of all time ... rip champ
There were many, Salvador Sanchez was going to be an all-time great and died in a car wreck. GGG had a string of championship fights will make him a legend.
Thank you Marvelous, I fondly remember watching your fights with my father, great times, God bless and please, R.I.P
To the "GREATEST"... Marvelous Marvin Hagler
"REST-IN-POWER" MY "BROTHER-WARRIOR"!!!!!!!
No image of a boxer outside the ring will ever be more striking and genuinely badass than Hagler with the WAR hat. RIP legend 💔
My favorite boxer of all time. For me, he won that fight against Leonard.
Hagler, Hearns 2, we have a club
Agreed. Watch it 3x. Had the Marvelous One winning 7-5.
Yes he did won fight
That loss to Leonard still irritates the hell out of me
I just watched that fight and it clearly looked like Leonard won. Hagler gave away the first 4 or 5 rounds and Leonard was the busier fighter. Hagler did land the harder punches when he could land but Leonard’s speed was a big factor. He made Hagler miss a lot especially in the earlier rounds. I thought the judges were pretty accurate although one judge scored 118-110 which I thought was a little much. 115-113 was about right in favor of Leonard.
Thank you for the Beautiful Tribute. Marvin was also my Hero. My Hometown Hero as he lived just up the Road. I met him at the Mall for an Autograph signing when I was12 and still have it displayed. A Real Life Super Hero. Thank You Again for the video.
Thank you for this tribute. I was not even born when Marvelous Marvin Hagler was still fighting, but I discovered his fights watching his war with Thomas Hearns, since then I have seen some of his fights and interviews, I really enjoy the man and the boxer, he is an inspiration to me.
Rest in Piece Marvelous Marvin Hagler, your legacy will stay in our heart forever.
I respect that Hagler never came out of retirement and sullied his legacy. He had too much integrity to come back past his prime to chase big paydays or belts. R.I.P 😪
He asked for a rematch, the guy said no, he said okay no problem and that was that.
Does the name Bernard Hopkins ring a bell?? 👍🏿
May God bless Marvelous Marvin and your wonderful Dad.🙏
As a boxing fan only one year younger than the late and great MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER, I followed hagler since a little before he was robbed in his first title attempt against vito antofuermo . I followed him closely throughout his championship years and always considered him arguably the best middleweight champion ever. He was part of my boxing youth and at the top of the list of my favorite boxers in all divisions. Thank you for this beautiful although short tribute to this great fighter and for the insight on how hagler converted you into a boxing fan. You can say hagler versus hearns gave birth to what we enjoy now as rummy's corner, and insightful and informative place that we can all enjoy the greats as well as the not so great fighters. Can't wait for your future posting on this great middleweight boxing champion. REST IN PEACE MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER ❤️🥊🥊👑😔☝️🙏💓👑

Can't imagine what's its like being a fan when the first fight you saw was Marvellous Marvin Hagler Vs Hearns every fight must have been anti climax after, What a true fighter he's the toughest to lace a pair of gloves RIP Champ🥊🥊🥊🥊
Hagler and Antefirmo fights were wars. He walked right through Hearns.
No long words nor long script. You were a gentleman and you did the sport of boxing proud. Thank You...
Thanks Rummy, that was great, I loved your tribute. My first recollection of Marvellous Marvin was the Minter fight back in 1980 when he beat up Alan Minter for the undisputed title. As a Brit I was gutted for Minter, but had a feeling that Marvin was special and I was right. I was a Hagler fan from then on and I am devastated at his untimely passing but as you rightly say, his boxing greatness will live on forever.
What a beautiful video, R.I.P. Marvelous Marvin Hagler
A fantastic warrior who never ducked anyone.. First saw him when he destroyed Alan Minter to become world middleweight champion.. I watch it live and i was disgusted how my countrymen/ thugs/ morons behaved that night throwing bottles of beer and fighting everywhere.. most of all not allowing him to receive his very hard earned belt inside the ring.. I dont think that it has ever had happened before or since!! Anyway this led me to follow the marvelous one, and I truly was a fan.. I do believe he has been one of the greatest middleweights of all time. Not only a great fighter, but a great man..
RIP Mr Marvelous Marvin Hagler.. And thank you for all the great memories !!
Alan Minter hasn't long passed away himself, weirdly enough.....
Thank you for uploading this video, I think you expressed the emotions of many people of the generation who had their childhood in the 70ties and 80ties. I think that boxing will be never again so spectacular and exciting like in this period, and indeed Hagler was one of the greatest, unforgettable his fights against Hearns, Duran, Leonard ... RIP champ ...
Not only did the marvelous Marvin Hagler leave us with great memories he left us with you what a combo, thanks for all you hard work.RIP Mr Hagler.
Thanks Rummy. Beautiful tribute to Mr. Marvelous himself.
R.i.P champ the best middle weight
You honored him well. Thank you.
I feel the same about Marvelous and Rocky. Thanks for sharing this video, it's so honest. I'm very sad too. I've been crying all week. Rest In Power Marvelous.
Thank you Rummy for an awesome tribute to a truly inspirational champion and man. RIP Marvelous! 😢🥊
I feel the same as Rummy, Hagler's passing has it me harder than the passing of any other fighter. Simply because Marvin Hagler was a fixture in boxing during my childhood during the 80's. Tommy Hearns, SRL, Duran, Holmes, Chavez, Tyson, Jones and a few others all hold a special place in my heart. It really saddens me, to the core with Marvin's passing and I have shared his fight with Hearns on FB and tried to get people to watch what an outstanding fighter Hagler was and what he means to the sport. Hagler never took the easy route and he would fight anyone and it's a testament of his commitment to the sport that he fought his entire career at 160lbs and was always in great shape. He had a chiseled body and was probably one of the physically strongest middleweights that ever lived. For 14 years he fought at the same weight and never had a issue making weight, that was during the time fighters had to weigh in on the day of fight. Hagler had to make concession in the fight with SRL, catchweight of 158, 12oz gloves, 12 round fight and a 20 by 20 ring and I still thought Hagler pulled out the win. RIP champ.
Amen, I doubt that I could have said it any better.
I'm from England and first saw Marvin win the title from Alan Minter in spectacular style..and followed him ever since I was a boy too a man..I'm looking at his poster now I have on my wall which I sent away for when I was 17..I'm 51 now..I will never forget you Marvelous Marvin..you were the best R.I.P. champ!
Thank you for this upload Rummy.

Excellent tribute to a legendary boxer. R.I.P. Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
Man you can really tell a story..you not only show me the picture of the great boxer but also your childhood with your old man ..! Great job bro!!
Marvelous Marvin Hagler was the reason I became interested in boxing also, I was so amazed how he could transition between orthodox and southpaw in the middle of a combination so effortlessly, and his gazelle punch was so quick with so much power. Later in life I learned about his training regiment, how he trained in an old hotel and to this day I yell “WAR, WAR!!” Just as he did while running or jogging. RIP TO THE MARVELOUS ONE! Thank you for the memories and thank you Rummy for all the great boxing documentaries!
I've been a boxing fan since the age of eight, 51 years ago. I went to Leicester Square in London with a friend to watch Hagler vs Leonard live via satellite. What a night! I have the t-shirt framed. Lost my voice for two days and cried my heart out when the judges took away Marvin's belt. When his death was announced I cried again. He was my hero. The ultimate fighter. All my respect Marvin Hagler.
Nice eulogy. I too remember that fight - I was at university and we were all crowded round a tiny 14 inch TV. There were probably 20 of us in that small room squinting at the action on screen. Probably the most astonishing 3 rounds in history. My start with boxing was Ali-Frazier 1. Amazing when you get such a fight as an introduction.
I’m also deeply saddened by this news. He also was my favourite boxer.
Rummy how right you are...you are not alone,i hope he knew how many of us idolized him...loved him.
I was born in 1973 and Marvin was my first 'sports hero' ...he was a fearless stalker,i loved knowing no matter what, the man standing across from him was terrified...

Rest in peace bro . May Allah bless you in the afterlife you were indeed the marvelous one not to take nothing form sugar ray but your fans know the fight between you and him should have been a draw.
@@tintomara6209 I guess it has to do with how Rummy became a boxing fan.
Good for you my friend to stay strong it's a shame that people get bullied these days especially people who are autistic lots of people like to pick on someone who's autistic or on the spectrum or have Asperger's these days it seems like an open free range for some reason when it's something that they usually can't help so I feel for you I have a couple of good friends who have the same issue and it's always a difficult task but they deal with it and I'm on your side here I don't like bullies and I feel like America should not support bullying as much as they do but it's a little underground thing where they secretly defend the bully and allow it to happen it happened to me when I was a kid and even in high school so when I stood up for myself and realized that if you stand up they back down you feel a lot stronger so I feel for you my friend I have your back
