My parents met Marvelous in a cafe in Milan back in the 90s. My dad, who is a huge boxing fan, and always loved Hagler, approached him and asked very politely for an autograph, and Marvelous was very happy to oblige him.
My dad - who is British - took that opportunity to apologise for the fans at the Hagler v Minter fight. Hagler laughed his head off, patted my dad on the back and thanked him for the apology, but told him that it was cool because he'd visited the UK a few times since then and had always been made to feel very welcome. He then posed for a picture with my dad, and left.
My dad framed that picture and it's still up on the wall in their living room.
R.I.P. MMH. You were a class act and a true warrior.
    P.S. Brilliant video. Thank you.

    6. He tamed The Beast into a house cat.
    7. He dishes a plate of justice to Brit who said, "no Blackman is gonna take my title".
In his own house. They rioted .
    8. He served a great plate of spaghetti to Vito.
    9. He made a sissy marathon runner of an Olympian. Ray deserved a draw.

So lucky to have "The War" as your first boxing fight you ever watched. For me it was watching Sugar Ray Leonard fight Roberto Duran for the second time. Not a terrible fight, but it didn't hold a candle to The War. Hagler was a gift to the sport, one of the greatest competitors I've ever seen, and his early demise is truly a tragedy. RIP.

I just watched that fight and it clearly looked like Leonard won. Hagler gave away the first 4 or 5 rounds and Leonard was the busier fighter. Hagler did land the harder punches when he could land but Leonard’s speed was a big factor. He made Hagler miss a lot especially in the earlier rounds. I thought the judges were pretty accurate although one judge scored 118-110 which I thought was a little much. 115-113 was about right in favor of Leonard.

As a boxing fan only one year younger than the late and great MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER, I followed hagler since a little before he was robbed in his first title attempt against vito antofuermo . I followed him closely throughout his championship years and always considered him arguably the best middleweight champion ever. He was part of my boxing youth and at the top of the list of my favorite boxers in all divisions. Thank you for this beautiful although short tribute to this great fighter and for the insight on how hagler converted you into a boxing fan. You can say hagler versus hearns gave birth to what we enjoy now as rummy's corner, and insightful and informative place that we can all enjoy the greats as well as the not so great fighters. Can't wait for your future posting on this great middleweight boxing champion. REST IN PEACE MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER ❤️🥊🥊👑😔☝️🙏💓👑

A fantastic warrior who never ducked anyone.. First saw him when he destroyed Alan Minter to become world middleweight champion.. I watch it live and i was disgusted how my countrymen/ thugs/ morons behaved that night throwing bottles of beer and fighting everywhere.. most of all not allowing him to receive his very hard earned belt inside the ring.. I dont think that it has ever had happened before or since!! Anyway this led me to follow the marvelous one, and I truly was a fan.. I do believe he has been one of the greatest middleweights of all time. Not only a great fighter, but a great man..

I feel the same as Rummy, Hagler's passing has it me harder than the passing of any other fighter. Simply because Marvin Hagler was a fixture in boxing during my childhood during the 80's. Tommy Hearns, SRL, Duran, Holmes, Chavez, Tyson, Jones and a few others all hold a special place in my heart. It really saddens me, to the core with Marvin's passing and I have shared his fight with Hearns on FB and tried to get people to watch what an outstanding fighter Hagler was and what he means to the sport. Hagler never took the easy route and he would fight anyone and it's a testament of his commitment to the sport that he fought his entire career at 160lbs and was always in great shape. He had a chiseled body and was probably one of the physically strongest middleweights that ever lived. For 14 years he fought at the same weight and never had a issue making weight, that was during the time fighters had to weigh in on the day of fight. Hagler had to make concession in the fight with SRL, catchweight of 158, 12oz gloves, 12 round fight and a 20 by 20 ring and I still thought Hagler pulled out the win. RIP champ.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler was the reason I became interested in boxing also, I was so amazed how he could transition between orthodox and southpaw in the middle of a combination so effortlessly, and his gazelle punch was so quick with so much power. Later in life I learned about his training regiment, how he trained in an old hotel and to this day I yell “WAR, WAR!!” Just as he did while running or jogging. RIP TO THE MARVELOUS ONE!
