I miss Nicholson, Hackman, and Meg Ryan maybe the most. All were mainstays in Hollywood when I was growing up in the 80’s and 90’s. Some absolutely iconic films. My parents now have a winter home in Albuquerque, and I had heard that Gene Hackman was a resident of Santa Fe. It’s wild how Hollywood can make or break people, or eventually wear you out. I actually have my degree film and video production, and worked in television until just a couple of years ago after 18 years of it. I actually love the work, but it can be an absolute meat grinder if you don’t find that right, steady position somewhere. I’ve started to discover that I may just not be the type willing to move from place to place, job to job, work freelance, have no benefits, and very little pay. But it’s such a mental conflict, because when in the right situation, I really do love the work.
Those of us who worked our entire lives understand there is a difference between " quitting " and retireing . You, too, will learn this someday. Next time at least make an effort at truth.
I dunno, I think sometimes it's better to walk away than to stick around too long. The last couple Clint Eastwood movies are examples of that. In my opinion he should have walked away after Gran Torino. That would have been a great way to go out. It's the same with a lot of these rock stars from the 60s who are still touring. I was fortunate in that I got to see most of them when they were still in their prime. Paul McCartney came to my area last year and he wanted $225.00 for a nose-bleed seat. I paid $9.00 to see him in 1976 when he was still able to deliver and hit the high notes. I remember watching Willie Mays fall apart with the Mets. Now Harrison Ford seems to be doing the same in the latest Indiana Jones movie. Believe me, no one knows better than me how tough it is to retire from something you've done for a long time. But father time is undefeated.

She had the audacity to get older and not get tons of surgery. As none of us know anything about her, there’s no need to judge. I just hope she’s happy with her family.

Danny Lloyd from The Shining was friends with my youngest sister and worked at our Walmart for years. His parents spent the $ he made for the movie so he decided acting wasn't for him. He's a teacher somewhere now.
That's record producer Lou Adler on the right side of Jack Nicholson. Interestingly, Lou Adler's mother used to babysit me when I was a baby. I was born in 1955. My late father was a good friend of Adler's in Los Angeles.
How about Peter ostrum who played Charlie in the Willy winks movie in 1971. After the movie he didn’t continue acting he became a veterinarian. How about the actress who played Rhett and Scarlett’s daughter in gone with the wind. She worked on the Disney film Bambi and didn’t act after that.
Harold Russell a WW2 veteran who lose his two hands was cast in the movie the best years of our lives and was awarded two oscars. Wouldn’t act again till33 years later.
That was a great movie. I still think the best love scene in a movie is where Cathy O'Donnell's character of "Wilma" helps him with his "arms" to help get ready for bed at night.
Is it really fair to count actors who are obviously old, fat, bald &/or loopy as "stars" who quit acting? Besides, they are as entitled to retirement & privacy as anybody else --- except for maybe Harvey Weinstein... or Bill Cosby... or....
