Met Todd Bridges about 10 years ago. He was helping the set up crew set up an event that he would be signing autographs at. He was working just as hard as the set up crew. Talked to him each time he came to the smoke area to smoke a cigarettes on his breaks. I felt like an dummy because I had no idea it was him until the event started and he was setting at the booth taking pictures with people. I talked to him for 4 days and had no idea. Great guy though. Super laid back and friendly. Will talk your ear off.

Sadly, the recurring theme with all these people is drugs. It seems to be the case that when young people taste fame and get shed loads of money, they turn to either drugs or alcohol. It was true of many of the young rock stars or the 60s and 70s (see the film Valley of the Dolls (1967)... it was true of Judy Garland. The fact that they didn't have a lot of money at the end is really irrelevant. They would probably have been better off had they never stood infront of a television camera.

About 20 years ago I went for work for a fast foot restaurant and not long after I was made the kitchen manager. Right after that the general manager hired a woman who looked vaguely familiar to me. After a while we got to know each other fairly well and we started dating. Always in the back of my mind I felt she seemed familiar and I mentioned it one day and she pulled out a vhs tape and popped it in the vcr and that was her on a TV show as a child actress. She was fairly famous and I remember watching the show and her in it. Turns out it was a familiar story. After she hit her later teens Hollywood lost interest in her and her parents had squandered pretty much every cent she made which was a few million. We moved in together and that relationship lasted for about two years. But an old contact found her work in Hollywood again though this time behind the camera. She's worked on several TV series since. She makes far more than she would have in fast food but no where near what she got when acting. I'd like to see some laws put in place that prohibit parents from squandering their child's money, perhaps something like 90% of what they earn goes into a trust fund for them.

Out of all the people mentioned in the video, Todd Bridges, in my opinion, has successfully overcame his demons. Sure, he hasn't received that many acting roles lately, but he's more focused on counseling others to overcome their addictions, and most importantly, he's become a man of God, which to me, more important than any acting role.

Looking back it seems her mental health issues were probably already manifesting while she was on the show but didn't become pronounced until after she left.

Lani grew up near where I used to live, in the small town of Lafayette, CA, in Contra Costa County. Her brother was Don O’Grady who played one of the sons on “My Three Sons.” Her story is so sad. Knowing what we all know about Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, (among others too numerous to list here)and the “casting couch” history of the entertainment industry, it would not surprise me to learn that like Lani, many young performers, girls and boys alike, were sexually abused and/or assaulted during their time in the industry. So much of their behavior mirrors that of many sexual assault victims. If anything good came out of the “Me, too” movement following the Weinstein, Cosby, et al cases, I hope it is that people in that industry who may have been inclined to perpetrate these crimes are now more circumspect regarding their behavior towards vulnerable people.

The dog was pretty bad, too. Very aggressive, we gave him up. Michael trained him to be that way. Macho man, macho dog. It wasn’t just the dog, though. He was a total tool. That guy was a total mess. He looked terrible as he aged and apparently wasn't nice to work with. I remember reading this article about Ernest Borgnine and they were asking him about all these actors he worked with. He had nice things to say about everyone but nothing to say about JMV. His female co-star on the show he was the star of, said the best thing she could say about him was that he gave her a cold. Terrible person whose personality was lost in alcoholism. Had no idea about the dogs though.

Hmm....I think money and fame changes people no matter how big or small they are. The two create new problems and continue problems from the past. You can't be that arrogant to think it couldn't happen to a person like you or me. You are looking at it from the outside with your present reality and morality. Yes things change for the best in the eyes of "normal" people but you have no idea of what's taken place off the camera. I understand the angst but not the judgement. If you want things to be different in your life, then change it. I'm sure they did the best they could with what was given to them. Every celebrity, past and present, has admitted that the experience changed them in some major way. They were fortunate enough not to end up on lists like these. They are humans having a human experience in front of a camera. I would hope you could of empathize with the human condition. Anyways, take care of yourself, my friend.❤
