    And: a clarification for all the people that don’t know/understand why he has such a big kit. All the drums are tuned to different keys.
    It is much more self explanatory when it’s used for its real purpose, which is to say as musical instrument similar of a marimba or a piano. Like in this video 🙏🏻🤩

    I remember well the first time that I heard Terry Ted on drums in 1975 at the Paramount Theater in Portland Oregon when he was a young man of 25. He had a fairly simple drum kit but used it well !
    That was with Frank Zappa in Oct of 75.

    I love Terry's work. He, really, is in his own category. As for are there too many drums, I'd say for most players it would be; but for him, it just allows him more creative expression; and I do consider him to be a more conceptual drummer (evidenced by the fact he played on a kit comprised entirely of cymbals [and, yes, I do mean to say everything: bass drum; snare; toms; all of it!]. It was impressive).
    As for expense - though I could be wrong - I don't believe he pays for any of it, as, at this point, he's such a name companies, probably, do it for him, much like they do for other, know musicians like Nicko Mcbrain, etc.

    Saw him perform with Zappa in the 80s. One of my all-time favorite drummers.

      Terry left Frank's band in 1979. Did he do a guest appearance?

    First, let me say im NOT comparing Terry to who i believe is RUclipss baddest drummer, because they are from 2 different generations, 2 different styles, etc. But for me personally, i really wasn't impressed. Not a single thing had a "wow" factor, other than my feeling bad for whoever Terrys drum roadie is. Omg what a nightmare job that must , lol. Now Terry's a great drummer, BUT, I'm 100% more impressed and been left utterly godsmacked, by El Estepario siberiano slaying his 3 PC. Kit than Bozio on his 103 PC kit (or however big it is). I have yet to see a single video that El Estepario Siberiano, has made that didn't have me replaying parts of the video, if not the entire video itself.

    • @flowerlandofjohn
      @flowerlandofjohn Год назад +7

      Well, good you’re not comparing them. Because there is no comparisment. Having said that I don’t think this was the best video to display Terry’s greatness. But his independence and gift for memorization is unprecedented. And mind you, he joined Zappa at the age of 25, and played hours live each night doing the most advanced and complex music known to man. No short edited studio takes can ever compare to that. Regardless of how impressed you are about it. But I get that Terry (or Zappa) isn’t for everyone. It’s an acquired taste, kinda like jazz, it’s needs “a developed ear” to really be appreciated. And it’s usually not aimed for the “masses”, which most RUclips-drummers aims for. It’s a completely different ballgame, and I mean that in the truest sense. Jorge is great entertainer with some really mind blowing techniques & tricks, but don’t think he for a second could do a Zappa show, let alone 2 years ago 😅
      End rant. ✌🏻

      Terry did freaking crazy good with 4 piece drum kit with Frank Zappa in his prime was an absolute monster!! El Estepario is freaking incredible but... He is far what Bozzio has done over the years. Listen both albums Bozzio Levin Stevens...
