Terry is such amazing drummer and a very polite and fine human being. I attended a show in Sweden a couple of years ago, where he played this enormous drumkit so beautifully. He talked about rythms and structure and was obvious how much insight he has. A sad thing in the drum community is that some fellow drummers tend to down grade him with mean comments about his drum kit. He really deserves better than that as he is one of the greatest drummers of all time; a genius.
I agree with you! I think the comments are coming from some intimidation. Most drummers play social music and few venture out that. He is a very musical drummer. Thanks for sharing!
@@DrumsetArtistry I really appreciate your "reaction videos" and your professional kind approach to all the amazing drummers around the globe. That's very inspiring❤️
The only people that rag on him don't understand him or his playing style. They see a big kit and they want the drummer to go crazy. Then he does compositions full of ostinatos, polyrhythms and absolute mastery of 4-way independence, flawless technique, perfect timing and simply perfect technical ability and they think it's boring. Meanwhile, his peers, legendary drummers, and other legendary musicians all have nothing but praise. I'll listen to his peers over the complainers any day.
This is the most melodic drumming I have ever heard. Sounds like a combination of technical ability with steel drum sounds and African drumming. I'll bet his drum tech, if he has one, has to start out a week before to set up this kit. This guy's on another level.
I'm no drummer and just stumbled into this video. However, I'm a big Zappa fan and knew Terry well from the Zappa days. If you ask me, there seems to be a whole lot of Zappa influence coming through in his playing. It's no wonder Zappa loved him. I'm sure you must have seen Bozzio in Zappa's Baby Snakes video, and he's more Zappa here than he was there, IMO. Feel free to correct me though because I admit I know nothing. But THIS video is incredible for sure! Thanks for the analysis, I really enjoyed it!
my favorite thing about Bozzio is that literally every single time i've seen him drumming he looks like he is having the time of his life. dude just lives for that rhythm
Terry Bozzie IS AN AMAZING drummer & I was very lucky to meet him some years ago after a drum show he did he's a lovely guy & a realy nice person. His Drumming is just stunning, in the words of the late Great Frank Zappa "music like Colour in the Sky". BRILLIANT
Finally!!! I have loved Terry (And Vinny) since the days of Zappa!!!! (Chester,Ralph and Ruth as well!)!! Terrys playing on UKs Night after night on his Rototoms are just inhuman!!!! Iv seen Terry twice once with Zappa and once with Dweezil. WOW!!!!
At this point, he, kinda, looks like Liam Neeson from Taken. I can imagine him saying 'I have a very unique set of skill... with pedals; and I will find you and show you how to pedal!' He remains my favourite drummer, simply, because he's so conceptual. Thanks for covering him!
I would hate setting up or breaking down that set. Would take me months to get it right. Terry is an interesting and skilled drummer this solo is hardly a one to know his actual skill. Check out his drumming with brecker brothers or on jeff beck guitar shop cd/album. His pretty underrated but can really play lots of styles of music very well. I saw jethro Tull in the day the drummer used a 4 piece set three cymbals and was insanely good. They filled Madison garden with a great show. Their drummer is tame on the recordings and a beast live.
I agree! The set-up would be time consuming. I am familiar with his ensemble playing and he sounds great in so many groups and styles. I enjoy his small kit soloing as well! This big kit is the "ultimate" Terry experience :-) Thanks for sharing!
You could easily break that kit up into 6 smaller kits, and they'd still look huge! That one high-hat that was keeping steady quarter notes -- why was it so far out from where he was sitting? Why not position it closer so he could hit it more easily?
@@DrumsetArtistry Baard Kolstad - drum solo HerfstFest Drum Festival ruclips.net/video/0MuElF1kdtI/видео.html perhaps? Seems like a decent start. There's always his solo at Google Norway in 2015 but that is more show where he plays part of it on the interior of the room (and the CEO's glass lol. It broke BTW.)
Amazing stuff by Bozzio. So ambitious. But one has to kind of ask: what for? And I have to confess - Garey is so kind but I think probably bored a little bit by it.
agreed---I got bored with it after about one minute. LOL Terry is great, but I need more than just drums and indistinct steel drums. If i want to hear something like this, I'll listen to marimba/Lionel hampton.
Is Terry good? Yeah. Is Terry boring? Heck Yeah. More drums does not equal better drummer. When I see that drum setup I can envision him at the dinner table and those drums being plates of food. Fattening food. Looks like he's spending more time at the dinner table than behind the kit. I'll take a simple setup, Chad Smith? over the ostentatiousness of Bozzio any day.
Honestly, thats the most pretentious drum set ive ever seen. You dont need that ridiculous set to be amazing. Terry rubs me the wrong way.. Gergo borlai could teach him lessons.
Most melodic drummer on the planet, amazing talent, timing and touch
+ Simon Phillips
Terry is a great band. I sure hope he doesn't split up. 😝
Very good one! Thanks!
That is SO TRUE !
XD
Pure art. This is not just a drum solo, this is a drum sonata.
Well said!! Thanks!

Louie Bellson would be interested in this kit
But Buddy Rich would slag it off....it's just the way in music
Definitely amongst the very greatest drummers ever!!!
Glad you finally did Terry. He is one of the greats. Anyone out of Zappa as he is is from the Harvard School Of Music
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this video. This was my first time hearing him. Its so fun discovering new artists.
Glad you enjoyed!
I watched an interview with Terry, and he said he wrote ALL the songs in Missing Persons. I had no clue.
I am not a drummer, but your enthusiasm and awesome critiques are well worth hanging around to enjoy. Keep up the great work!
He tries to transform our instrument to a musical notation instrument and he do it well as a pro he is.
I agree! Thanks!
It always HAS been those things.
Playing drums like playing a caribic steel drum - awesome!

Yes , even if you not onto his style , his achievement in drums (as instrument) progression is huge !
He is a pioneer for sure! Thanks!
My Brain Just Exploded Hearing(Watching) This 😀 Just Phenomenally Wonderful

Like a Marimba. Amazing how moves so well to various drums.😁😁👍
Frank would be In love with even more if he was still alive….he is a “Frank” in a drummer way….amazing 🤘🤘
I fortune to see Bozzio in 2014 on his solo tour. 60 minute set. Totally mind blowing!
At this point, he, kinda, looks like Liam Neeson from Taken. I can imagine him saying 'I have a very unique set of skill... with pedals; and I will find you and show you how to pedal!'

So cool someone else saw the Tull/UK tour👍

😂😂 funny the ""teacher's"" reactions watching those changing flamins up and down the whole drum fortress!!
like wait a second what ?? how?? jejeje
For similar sounds check out BRENT LEWIS. I love this TERRY offering.but again BRENT has at least 7 lps and they're terrific.thanjs GAREY.....
Please send me a link to solo you like. Thanks for the suggestion, Michael!
I don't like all of Terry's stuff, but this is good. Being all in 4/4 also helps a lot in not losing time
Long Live the King.
Thanks for doing this ! Is this music available from Terry somehow ?

Love Bozzio! Suggestion: Check out Baard Kolstad!
Thanks. Please send me a link to a solo you like. Cheers!

Would you check some Ronald Bruner's stuff, thank you!!!
Would be nice if you listened to “black page”, by Frank Zappa, with Terry on the drums. Specially made for him.
Man, the similarities between Bozzio and Peart seem uncanny. Maybe it's just me. Good stuff.
Please do another Matt Garstka reaction!
I will in time. Thanks for the suggestion!
Could be interesting If the microphones had filters etc
and.....listen to Terry from 1:05:00 till the end...
Reminds me of Javanese Gamelan at times.
Thanks!
there's Drummers. and then there's Bozzio !!! Not the same thing .....
He should add some tom-toms😎
LOL!
Did anyone hear " I Got Rythm" for a second? Lol.
More cowbell.....! Seriously, Terry is a brilliant musician.
I don't see him playing drums at a wedding!
LOL!!! Thanks!
Why not? :)
Terry Bozo is mostly Rumoré
Liam Neeson plays pretty well.
I'd hate to be his roadie!
He started triggering his toms to double with a marimba sound.
I have to get my wife and tell her that I found her nylons!
Just show the drummer !
No Improv involved there....Absolutely planned out.
