Next time if you come back to Surabaya, you should go to Sampoerna Museum there's a free bus tour with a tour guide you can see an old city & historical places around surabaya, many foreigner went there too and the tour guide speak in English it will be easy for both of you..
It seems that there are still many places in Surabaya that are more interesting than the places you are exploring. next time you try to find your own recommended places from google. I as an Indonesian citizen are ashamed, you should come to an interesting place for the best experience you get, not see a beach full of trash! Love you guys.
