The tradition is to throw in not only flowers but also livestock, any harvest that the locals produce or anything that they make a living with. The man is making money as well giving offering, that's genius!! 😀 A decade ago it cost me 20k for the horse ride but I ended up walking with the horse 😀
You guys were really lucky to have a clean and clear sunrise and even able to climb on the crater. I didn't get those expreriences when I and my family went to bromo on February 2021 ago

That's Eidelwess flower. An eternal flower. You should buy some and save a little inside your bag or pocket. They make a nice scent for a very long time.
I chose to walk to cross the Bromo caldera to the top about 15 years ago when not many tourist come there as now and the road still bumpy. I started 3 pm, the sky was so bright, stars and cricket sound seems close to me. The thin oxigen, and the head lamp to avoid horse dung. Touch the top at 5 am, the "Jingga" (i don't know the English of "Jingga" but it's not orange) welcoming me, sitting down waiting sunrise warm my body. My tired paid off.
Try to hike rinjani mountain!! You can do camp if you feel tired too!! The rinjani mountain is rlly tall with height of 3.726 mdpl (meters above the sea level )
