- The Autobot Brothers are three very unique figures. This review covers the Japanese verisons of the figures but they are exactly the same in the USA. In Japan these characters were know as Wildrider, MachAlert and Speedbreaker.

I remember when my uncle gave me my first transformer, it was side burn, took me forever to figure out the transformation on my own
Personally I prefer Prowl. Why? Because I have 3 older siblings, and one younger brother, not the middle child, but close enough. Also. I enjoy his protocol rule based life style, not as wild or reckless as his brothers, and follows orders better. Also, he's a friggen robo lambo.

Sideburn is actually my favorite transformer I own. I wish there were more complicated ones out there like him.
these guys really bring back memories. RID was the first time I got into Transformers toys, though Beast Wars/Machines was what introduced me to the series
Same [>
Same here along with the Unicron Trilogy :)
man this kicked me in the nostalgia. i remember having x-brawn when i was younger.
Same it's crazy
he missed folding x-brawn's back wheels forwards to become knee covers in robot mode.
The hood of the car in Prowl's robot mode can be tucked into his back
i have them but the powered up versions still i love them
So much nostalgia, thanks for the upload. I remember having all three when I was a kid but they all had missing pieces of course
My favorite was probably Omega prime or prowl
when you got to Sideburn and said "We're gonna start by opening the doors," i began to notice a trend.
Your supposed to push the bonnet section into the square hole in his torso before pushing the waist up for Prowl, also for X-Brawn you forgot to fold his back wheels into his shins
FIY: The ones in the thumbnails are Hasbro version. The ones Baltmatrix was reviewing are Takara version.
Simple! Takara versions only had faction symbols in Robot mode.
sideburn has always been my favorite since he was the dumbass of the three XD that and iv always liked his aesthetic i like the character so much i have my own fan fiction of him and the brothers :) i may have to find these guys online now
Lol
He fel in love with a red sports car in one of the episodes
Good God, Speedbreaker almost makes me thankful for cheap and easy transformations.
"im going on ebay to buy a missile"---fantastic...sounds like a daily thing, nothing special...
I found the exact takara version of prowl in my local comic book store and it has the Autobot logo in front of the car in car mode
love this group! thanks for always bringing us more content!

If you fold up the hood before you slide the legs up it actually compresses much neater and tighter into his body.
Actually, the release of RID Megatron and Galvatron were both the retooled (albeit VERY slightly) Car Robots Gigatron/Galvatron mold. The retool added a pair of tabs for the... "mammoth" mode. No big loss if all you have is the original. It's still doable, it just doesn't have anywhere to connect firmly.
If they ever make a masterpiece of sideburn, then we all know what we need after that:
MP Red Sports Car, not transformable.
I have the American 1st repaint of X-Brawn, he's a nice figure, yes he was repainted into Ratchet in Universe (the least repainted of the 3). All 3 got powered up repaints, but Prowl & Sideburn got repainted in to other characters as well. In Universe 2003 Prowl was repainted into Inferno (my brother has him), Sunstreaker & Sideswipe, While Sideburn was repainted & retooled into sisters Roulette (Autobot) & Shadow Striker (Decepticon). I like these figures, & I hope to get sideburn one of these days!
You forgot to say Speedbreaker gets a powered up form too, never mind. The CGI was used to make the intro cooler, but were also re-used for the break bumpers between commercial breaks.
i used to have them, i miss this figures so much
they were and still are uber cool
The red repaint of sideburn was my first ever transformer. I still prefer the red version over the blue because of that, eventhough blue is my favourite colour.
baltmatrix transforms X-Brawn (Wild Ride), and Sideburn (Speed Breaker) without popping off!
I had been investigating and it seems the car was picked for two reasons: It looks cool and fast, which is a deterrent for other people; and not only it works on police issues, but also for medical emergencies, like organ transport for hospitals. Yeah, some Italian's new heart was probably transported from the other side of the Boot Country by Prowl... Yeah...
It also seems that, every once in a while, Lamboghini donates a pair of their cars to replace the one they sent before, just like normal police do with their own cars when they have the money (difference: Lamborghini DONATES his vehicles, so it costs the Polizia zero Euros to renew the fleet).
It's not an issue.Just transformed it wrong.I have X-Brawn and Prowl but I still need Sideburn. You should fold the bumper in and it has to show on the torso then you fold the hood down.
The Shellformer aesthetic was big in Japan in the 90's. Look at the Japanese Beast Wars series: they gave us Big Convoy. And dear lord, Dead End...
I actually liked this line because they got as close to G1 as you could possibly get. I have x Brawn in the Wheeljack Color Scheme, and the Blue version of Prowl. I have the Blue Sideburn. All great figures. Personally, I wish we had more figures like this,
Hattori
X-brawn probably was supposed to be wheel jack originally
And yellowing plastic is often caused by ABS (flame retardant) additives reacting with the plastic polymers over time. An oxidising bleach like NapiSan Vanish or even Hydrogen Peroxide fixes it. You'll have to search around online for methods suitable for you.
I come from germany and live there and as i was in Italia with my family i saw the police Lamborginy i hope i wrote it right.
But it looks awesome i understand not why they have it but i was told it is more as promo for the police and works as so they have only 2 of them, and they look so cool it was a joy to sea them.

Sideburn is one of my personal favorite figures, yes he has kibble, but his robot mode is one of the few that it kind of works for. I absolutely love his vehicle mode though, which is probably why i like the figure so much. The only one I don't have is Prowl, and I am going to get him eventually. X Brawn is a good looking figure, the silver plastic really sticks out when they are on display, but the robot mode isn't my favorite.
when i had these guys they had diffrent names on the boxes i got, prowl was inferno, x-brawn was trailbreaker and sideburn was sideswipe
Great review. FYI, if you fold Mach Alert/Prowl's hood up against his butt before you push the legs up it will sit flush with his back and look much better.
loved this toyline cuz of sum of the realistic alt modes and the articulation
All the kibble+ball joints+parts of alt modes becoming arms and such reminds me a lot of Beast Wars figures, just with vehicular alt modes instead of animals.
Oh god, I loved X-Brawn as a kid. Now I gotta go find a new one...
I have the Sideburn version of Speedbreaker. I like how these three look like real cars in alt mode. Almost like a precursor to the alternators line
Prefer Prowl's Japanese name Mach Alert.
If you watch closely at the video, he is trying to collapse the kibble on Prowl's back, but doesn't know how.
I've heard the the reason there were Lamborgini police cars in Italy for emergencies such as heart transplants and other things of that nature. The same article said that one of the two made was involved in an accident.
Pretty crazy figures no matter how you look at them. X-Brawn's mould would've worked well for a Hellboy transformer crossover methinks. If they switched the arms ofc. Still... 8 years since the review and longer still since I once owned X-Brawn.
My favorite out of the three Autobot Brothers is X-Brawn :)
Love RID Prowl. Hate the fact that his doors are clear plastic. They snapped on me after owning it for 3 years. :X
x brawn is a cybertronian fisto, his front bumper will also un peg for some sort of blade weapon that he can hold as well
ya, somebody has likely mentioned this, but wildrider actually has some molding differences so he looks alot less like the mercedes, they of coarse where all stamped with big red autobot insignias
The split screen gimmick with the three of them is well done, but a bit distracting... I didn't know which car you were talking about at any given time because I didn't know their names.
Good review, though, keep it up! :)
Good times. This actually gave me hope.
I had power when I was probably just three and maybe all of them including Optimus and Ultra Magnus
I have a u.s. versiin if x brawn and sideburn when I go t them as a kid. X brawn was easy to transform however that side burn was a side burn in the ass. At times I remember getting so frustrated that just gave up cuz of the pieces falling out of place. Id say a 7/10 of a pain in the ass for side burn in my book.
Neat review as always, but you forgot a few steps on Prowl/Machalert. You can collpase the entire hood by that double-hinge just before you collapse the crotch into the body. Then the windshield can be tucked downwards aswell, creating a very neatly organised back.
Actually the US version of X-Brawn IS different. There are no tail lights and the headlights have been mostly painted over, leaving small round headlights instead of the normal ones.
Sort of....Gigatron could only transform into six modes and ONLY six modes, from what I know, the English version, actually re-uses Galvatron's mold and can actually transform into the ten different modes.
exactly what i was thinking, thats what the hole in the torso is for, it totally folds flat under the roof/windscreen
can someone find a tutorial on how to transform side burn back to vehicle mode? cant seem to get his right arm past his hips or rotate on the blue piece holding in..
Because they wanted to make it 3D for the intro just as a way to show they could make 3D like the Americans. Honestly, it wasn't that bad considering this is Japan circa Beast Machines.
White people aren't even really true Americans, they're actually illegal European immigrants.
x-brawn may be my favorite robot mode out of the three because of his left arm. it's interesting!
I found mach alert at a yard sell 8 years ago and got him for $5.00 along with some other transformers and power rangers toys, apparently he didn't even know he had the Japanese version of prowl.
I'm guessing Rail Racer!
In my opinion probably the best executed combiner ever.
I love these guys, but there are a few differences to the USA/UK ones. Prowls chest isnt clear for a start, X-Brawn has molding differences on the headlights and a few other bits. all done to avoid having to pay mercedes royalties. i dug mine out and have found that both my std and supercharged prowls are broken in the same way the ball joints on the doors are cracked, so a word of warning DO NOT PACK HIM IN ROBOT MODE ALWAYS FOLD HIM UP.
I use to have Speedbreaker/Sideburn and my only gripe with him was transforming him. My least favorite transformation to do in that line has to be Optimus and Magnus in their combined mode. Great review as usual, though.
I like Side Burn. The blue version reminds me of Tracks and the red version is like Hot Rod. Odd that he doesn't actually have his own color scheme, he just seems to steal his colors from other characters. He's also notorious for being one of the only kid friendly characters who isn't yellow.
you have prowl transformed slightly off.
Prowl's back part (hood of the car) is supposed to collapse in on itself and go in the little box hole.
Well x-brawn/ wild ride originally was going to be made into a trailbreaker but they lost rights or something so they made him into ratchet
Yep, that was 3H's original intention, and Hasbro had the same idea for the mass retail Universe assortment, but of course, this was back when Hasbro didn't have the trademark.
I have all 3 super mode versions of the toys, but they all have problems.
X-brawn's paint is chipping off.
Prowl's door hinge ball joint plastic snapped, and won't stay on.
Sideburn, well, I don't know where he is. Let's just say he is probably in pieces somewhere.
I always keep all 3 in vehicle mode.
I got speed breaker, i remember getting it as a kid, geez did it take me ages to transform him.
Prowl, X-Brawn, and Side Burn. I was lucky enough to have these guys as a kid. They're great figures. Plus they can fit on Ultra Magnus's vehicle mode.
(\I I/)
Hey Spada! if you pull the legs down on machalert you can fold the backpack down making it pretty much flush part of the hinge goes into the hole in his back, great review!

I've got these guys at Cherry Bomb Toys, other then my Prowl being broken, there all good plus I got the red sideburn as well, I want to go again, especially with my Birthday Money LoLz
How is it, that modern Transformations got easier, and require fewer steps, and yet the figures ended up better looking with less kibble in both modes.
Great review Is your Speedbreaker missing his pistol? I have the Shadowstriker and Roulette botcon set and I love those two.
Mach Alert & Speedbreaker have the most complex transformations.
Tip on fixing ball joints. Plain nail polish. Pop joint off brush ball compltly dry for 12 hour min. Add 2nd coat dry for nother 12 hour min. Ud swear it was brand new
im looking for a transformer with fairly complex transformation, any size, and a price range between 0$ and 100$ any ideas?
K1n6 N00b f0r pr353d3nt transformers revenge of the fallen leader optimus prime
a lot of people say rotf prime is hard to transform he's easy for me to be honest
RotF Mixmaster
Just bought these on eBay at a really cheap price. Can't wait to get them. by the way did you mange to get a missile for prowl?
I used to have the X-brawn figure when i was very little. Not a bad figure but that arm was weird
Wow, great car modes ruined by awful robot modes.
shawz10 holy crap they are shitty I agree I don't know what they were thinking with brawns arm.....
It's even worse when you have them in your hands.
Prowl looks awesome. The rest, not so much.
Terrible even
Hey baltmatrix the transformers rid characters names are side burn, x brawn and prowl
The visor on speedbreaker reminds me of dragonball
actually its not, the RID megatron is car robots galvatron but in the megatron colours so he has the extra hinges for all 10 modes
on takara version of autobot brothers has no autobot symbol in vehicle mode, but in hasbro version has autobot symbol in vehicle mode.
Is it possible to take sideburns hood and doors section down to make that movie crosshairs look? It would limit some articulation but I would prefer doing that than having that weird backpack
How do I buys these toys in 2019 I want wild rider
pop a balljoint.. is that like popping your spine when you've been sitting at the computer all day?
I'm surprised there weren't/aren't more tf suvs given their rise in popularity
so sideburn is basically Smokescreen
and X Brawn is Bluestreak
speedbreaker "his power level is over 9000!!!!!"
I like the asymmetry of these guys.
I wanna admit, it's a sin not to have Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus if you have JRX and the Autobot Brothers in your possession. They are the most prominent Autobots in the series, and it's too jarring without their Supreme Commander.
Not much, actually. You could probably find them on eBay for less than 20 apiece.
Actually, no, the USA versions aren't the same as the Japanese versions. X-Brawn has different head and tail lights so as to avoid any Mercedes trademarks. I can't recall if there are differences with the other two or not. Also...where is Side Burn's knife?
I loved Machalert as a kid!!!!
i remember having these as a kid how much do they go for now becuase i feel like buying them again to experience nostalgia
In the show, they were powered up versions.
I was just wondering if your Speedbreaker came with a small chromed weapon? Reason being I remember Sideburn coming with it and pegged into its waist area.
hey baltmatrix you messed up in transforming mach alert. what you are supposed to do is have the hinges for the hood fold into the chest cavity then push the waist up
when you transform prowl push the hinge connected to the bumper thought the hole before pushing up the legs to reduce the kibble
Why is all their arms uneven?
It's funny how Scourge costs noticeably more that Black Convoy.
