  • Productivity hack for multitaskers. Instead of reading the ebooks, you can now listen to them on your android phone by enabling this simple option. Let the phone read it out for you.
we dont need to install any new apps. Android already has Google text to speech (TTS) in built. We just need to enable this and get started. This video gives you a step by step instruction to enable this option

Hi. I'm afraid I failed at the first hurdle. I couldn't find Accessibility under Settings 😢

Nice instruction but the android talkback feature is terrible. The guy who came up with that feature should be fired.

Guys, forget TalkBack, what you're looking for instead is Select to Speak. Go to Accessibility/Installed apps/Select to speak. You can choose the way it is activated, but the most important thing is, it actually has to be prompted by you, it won't just keep babbling out anything it sees on the screen, rendering the entire device useless.
Assuming you selected a menu icon as the activation prompt, open a Kindle book page, expand the lower phone menu (just swipe it upwards from the bottom without exposing the upper and lower Kindle menu bars so that the book still occupies the whole screen) and press the newly appeared human icon in the lower right corner. This will launch the reading from the first word visible and it will not stop until it reaches the bottom of the page, which is obviously pretty shitty as you want to keep going but that's all we have for now, I'm afraid. At the very least reduce the font size to the minimum so that it reads as much text in one go as it gets. You can use the playback options to rewind and fastforward sentence by sentence.

This is not a helpful way to do this. It is clunky and maddening to use. The text to speech on the Kindle Fire isn't perfect but it doesn't interfere with the rest of the device and is simple to use. Why can't this feature be added to the Kindle app for Android?

Ignore this video, TalkBack is useless as (a) it turns off as soon as the screen turns off, and (b) you have to advance each page, so useless if you're driving or cycling.

This is no good. This setting will drive you insane, don't activate it.

I am hearing impaired but had to stop using the feature because of how annoying it is. Haven't tried it for kindle books. Is it time I tried an iphone?

TIP: You can press the volume up and down buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to turn talk back off and on.

TIP: For Google play books, you can leave talk back off generally and enable the setting "automatically read aloud" in play book settings to still take advantage of the text to speech but not have to deal with the text aloud navigation.

I got the settings on, but holding both volume buttons will not make mine talk back. I can only get it to read anything except what is on the book page.😢

This is not necessary when Google Play Books has text to speech built in.
