Thanks for this info. I tried the audible narration, it worked for the first two books. I tried reading a third book which was on the audible narration list but the listen option button was not there. I tried this on several of my devices. Same thing. I chatted with Amazon, she troubleshooted my account and couldn't find out why this was happening. I was told to purchase the Audible. Wondering if you found a resolution to your issue? I also use Kindle Unlimited on my Samsung and have for several years. My favorite feature of Kindle Unlimited is the Read & Listen for Free! I also usually go through 2 or more books a week (because of the audio option). Since my phone and my Kindle app updated on Dec 29, I have been having more and more problems with the audio working and downloading correctly. Most recently, when I choose a Read & Listen book, the book downloads, but the audio option doesn't show up at all. I have tried returning and re-downloading the books, restarting my phone, uninstalling the Kindle app and reinstalling, and Amazon Support chat(time totally wasted). So far nothing. I'm hoping for a new update.
Thank you so much! I thought the only way to read a book both on Kindle and by audio was to pay for both the Kindle edition and an Audible membership and I’m too cheap to do that so I had to try to manually figure out where I’m at when switching from one to the other. $10 a month would be worth having both access to the book and automatic syncing for books I don’t think I would want in my permanent library (like a lot of fiction).
I'm glad it was helpful! The audio isn't there on every book, but a lot of them have audio and I have been surprised by how many of them do. And $10 isn't much for a month especially since you can just cancel it if you aren't using it like you thought you would.
@@TheReadingandWritingLife Just a follow up--I just joined Kindle Unlimited and wouldn't have done otherwise without the knowledge you dropped in this video. I was going to buy the Kindle version of a book, but it was $4.99 and Amazon was offering two months of Kindle Unlimited for $4.99 so I figured I might as well give it a try for two months and see what value I get out of it. Hi, and thanks! I don’t know that I can pick one nonfiction, but I love The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. And I just read G-Men this year and it was fascinating. What’s you’re favorite?!
@@TheReadingandWritingLife Love that, my fav non fiction at the moment is non-violent communication and it basically highlighted how we are all taught one way to communicate,,, but by changing the way we communicate it can lead to less missunderstandings... super insightful. Why do you like the immortal life and G-men? Would you recommend them? Great channel!!
@@Josephgreentv The Immortal Life was great because it wasn't something I knew a lot about and I'm always here for learning new things. It was also just eye-opening for the amount of crap that people of color had to endure for no reason except that they were seen as "less than" the others around them. It really shed some light on that and how her cells have been so important for everything that we've done for scientific research and her own family members not only didn't know about it, but had no idea of the things that were possible because of her. As for G-Men. That one was just fun because it was interesting learning about a person I know because of his name, but not really anything else about him. It was so cool to me that he was around for so many years and so many different presidencies and all of the stuff that happened during the time he was creating and running the FBI. I also think that if it had been anyone else or anyone with a different mentality, things could be a lot worse as far as government spying goes (and it was still pretty bad). Anyway, it was just interesting to learn about people and things that I only know a little about.
@@TheReadingandWritingLife really love this feedback, and and is great to connect. I hope you have a fantastic day, and thank you for sharing light on the immortal life and G-men!
Great video...BUT your example of a book with the headphones icon is literally the only one I have seen on Amazon. I'm using the audible narration filter and absolutely none of these books have the headphones icon.
Maybe it just doesn’t show up with the filter. Sometimes I have to click on the book and then it shows the icon. They don’t make it easy to just search for them like they should.
Is there an updated guide to activate this for 2023 kindle app? I don’t have an audible account, and my kindle unlimited account is not showing anything other than an audio sample, I cannot figure out how to get the whole book as an audio!!
I have been thinking about redoing this video to update anything that's changed. I will be working on getting that out soon. I have found that it is sometimes easier to find the ones with audio on the amazon website on a computer and then using your device to actually read/listen. I will make sure I do some research on your issue when I make the new video. Thanks!
Same with the German amazon! The option for audible narration is there, same as shown in this video; you must however *purchase* the audible narration! OK, german-amazon will usually offer you the audible audiobook version of the eBook (audible narration) at a reduced price, if you have either purchased the eBook or borrowed it via unlimited! So it still a welcome option for expanding ones audible audio-book collection! (*but somewhat cheeky now that I know, that amazon, in some countries, includes the audible narration when you borrow from unlimited! I guess pros/cons is that audible price is reduced & can keep the audiobook/unlimited can borrow the audiobook at no extra cost, but can't keep it, lose the title when I quit unlimited)
I'm currently on an Audible Premium Plus Plan. Should I cancel and start a Kindle Unlimited with Audible Narration Plan or is there a way to change the first into the second without canceling? Is it fair to state that the Kindle Unlimited with Audible Narration would increase my membership or subscription value by t-w-e-n-t-y times???
Hi! I would say that it depends on what else you’re getting with the Audible Plus because you definitely won’t have as many books to choose from on the kindle unlimited plan, so maybe do a trial of unlimited and see what kinds of books they have available with audible narration and then maybe decide.
You mean you've written a book and it's on kindle? If that's the case, I don't know how you get it added to the KU library or make it available on audible. That would have to be answered by someone with more experience dealing with those things. If you just mean a book you own on the kindle and you'd like to get it on KU and Audible, then you can't do that. The author has control over that part and they would have to put it on KU and audible. Sorry that I may not have answered the question you were asking. Feel free to correct my assumptions and I'll try to answer the real question you were asking.
@@TheReadingandWritingLife "If you just mean a book you own on the kindle and you'd like to get it on KU and Audible" Yes, that is what i meant -- So how the KU are made then and if it is already KU why they cannot be publish on Audible?!
@achille1577 it is two different platforms and two different ways of making the content, so the author has to approve it to be part of KU and audible together in order for it to be available. It has to be a contract or agreement between Amazon and the author. I’m not sure how it all works, but there is nothing a reader can do to get their kindle book on audible if it isn’t already out there by the author.
@@TheReadingandWritingLife Thank you for explaining -- I am talking from the Author perspective if i have ebook i should be able to publish on Kindle, KU and Audible -- I am just looking for how to do or if someone has already done so
Hi on my kindle it says “£7.99 after 30 days” when I try to get the audible version through kindle unlimited? I already pay for kindle unlimited so why is it saying I’d have to pay extra for the audible? Thanks :)
I did an updated version of this video here ruclips.net/video/cYzGH57HmwU/видео.html. If might address some of the issues that you're having. Because it sounds like you have the same issue I had where it says it's part of the KU/audible program one one page, but then when you actually try to use it, it wants you to pay. That is just some kind of glitch in their website. I have the same issue in the new video. I hope they will eventually get their website worked out because it's horrible to say one thing on one page and then not have it on another page.
I think the books available for download change periodically and since I did this over a year ago, it might not be available on audio anymore. Sorry! It does still work though because I just listened to a KU with audible narration the other day.
What if you see a headphone icon but you click on it and it does not say read and listen for free. That is the problem I'm having. So a lot of these audiobooks are not audiobooks, please help.
I have noticed something similar. Including the book that I'm currently reading right now. So, here is what I did and it worked. I have no idea if it will work in the future, but it worked this time. I went to my kindle app and chose the book, then when I opened it, I didn't get the option to down the audio version, BUT when I opened my Audible App the book was there at the top of my library list, so I just downloaded it and listened. I hope it works for you. I have had the issue in the past and just picked a different book instead of going to audible. Hopefully it'll just work like this from now on and I won't have to choose different books.
Is audible narration free to use with kindle unlimited ? I had an audible account, but I don’t want to start it back up again and pay for both kindle and audible. Thank you
@@TheReadingandWritingLife I’ve found out how it works now. Thank you. I don’t think a lot of people know about this. It’s taken me weeks to verify it. Thanks again👍
Are you sure the book is available on audible? And it has to be on a device that can play audiobooks. So, a "regular" kindle with no speakers can't do it. I'm sorry you're having issues. Let me know if I can help.

Thank you for your video. Since the last Kindle unlimited App update on my Android (Dec. 29, 2022), I can download a book that is a Read and Listen for Free book, but the audio option does not download with the book. I have gone through all of my settings, uninstalled and reinstalled the Kindle App, and contacted Amazon (total waste of time), all with no change. My Kindle Unlimited subscription is up to date. Any thoughts? Anyone else having this issue? Thanks for your time!
Someone else was having this issue just the other day, but I don't know what device they were using (you can check some recent comments). They were going to try to contact Amazon. I'm sorry it doesn't work properly. I really don't have any other advice except what you've tried doing already. I wish I knew more about how to help people. I'm sorry.
You just search it out like normal and it will give you the Kindle Unlimited option with the headphones on top if it is part of the KU with Audible Narration group.
I'm not a book leader but on my first book that I bought which was last week I was like I'm not reading this book no way and it's not audible so I said hey Google open the kindle app hey Google read aloud and it just started reading the book to me
I don't know how it works with a paperwhite, but on my iphone, it's just the regular kindle app that you can get from the app store. If the books is available through kindle unlimited audio, then the option will be there to listen as well as read from the kindle app.
If you have a kindle fire or another device that has a speaker system, then yes you can. I'm not sure what kinds of kindle will work for this, but if you kindle doesn't have a speaker, then no, it won't work.
Hi Amanda, thanks for your 'how to' video. Do you know how to trouble shoot a book that should be 'read and listen' but the audible narration doesn't download. The book I just downloaded was So Long, Chester Wheeler. I've done a reboot of my device but the icon to download the audible is still not visible.
Hi! First of all, I'm sorry that something that should work isn't working. I know that can be super frustrating. My first plan (if this happened to me) would be to switch to another device and try it out. Like, if you were using an ipad or kindle, maybe try it on a phone. Or vise versa if you were trying on a phone, I would try on a different device. I know that's not ideal, but I really don't know why sometimes these things happen and sometimes they don't. Again, I'm sorry you're having issues and I wish I had a better answer.
I just got off Amazon Chat - after an hour and four people. They said this was a Kindle issue. I did exactly what she did in the video, when I pull up my kindle app, there are no headphones! I came searching for an answer so I can listen to a new audiobook. My issue was escalated was all I was told.
@@hmterry24 That really sucks. I'm sorry! Amazon owns both kindle AND audible, so I don't understand why their own entities can't communicate with each other correctly!
The search system for this isn't the best because for some reason, it doesn't always show when a book has audible narration. I would recommend searching in Kindle Unlimited first, and then if you see a book that looks like you want to read it, then click on the book and it will say if it has audible narration or not. I'm going to be making an updated version of this video soon since there are still so many questions and issues about this. I'm sorry you're having problems with it. It's just not set up to be super user friendly, unfortunately.
you can't go through the audible app, it has to be done either on the amazon page (probably not the amazon app either), or from the kindle. Once you've added the title to your kindle unlimited, then you can access it from the kindle app (or possibly the audible app, but I don't think I've ever done it that way).
Too bad I've only just found this and it's become obsolete this week. I think they are now pushing you get the audible subscription if you want the audio book. It's kinda annoying me.
Oh no! I just went and looked and it seems like they're all still there. Under the KU section of amazon, you can choose audiobooks and it will show you all of the KU books you can get with audible narration.
I'm not sure. I haven't used it in the last month because I've been trying to read books I already own and not as many on kindle unlimited. I am working on updating the info in this video though, so I'll be looking into that, but let me go check really quickly and see if this is still working.
Okay, I actually found this link that has all of the kindle unlimited books with audible narration still available. It says there are over 6,000 on the list. Here is the link www.amazon.com/Books-with-Narration-in-Kindle-Unlimited/b?ie=UTF8&node=9630682011 Hopefully you can find something on there and it will work for you.
Im sorry you’re having a problem. It will only show up on the ones that have audible available, and one of the worst things is that if they are on audible, you have to be in the right search menu for them to appear. Amazon really needs to fix their browse feature for this.
@@sarahslinsky766 Okay, I looked it up to see if you had to have an audible account (without the subscription). I think you still need to open audible and login with your amazon account info so that the kindle and audible can link to each other. You still won't have to pay anything or have audible and it should work. I looked up "If you Tell" and it says I can read and listen, Regretting You did as well, but I couldn't see the "Read and Listen" unless I clicked on the title on the amazon page. It worked on my laptop as well as my phone. Are you in the US? Maybe some books aren't available outside of the US? Otherwise, I really don't know. I would say chat with amazon customer service and see what they say. I'm really sorry and I hope you can get it to work.

@@iiloveyouamanda Unfortunitly Audible narration does NOT work as expected on the 'normal' Kindles, (I own a paperwhite signature edition) You cannot read and listen at the *same* time, (read & listen *together*) you can only do one or the other! I find this VERY disappointing as I really enjoy combining the eBook with narration. But I also own a fire tablet; on the fire, audible narration works as expected! You open your eBook in the kindle-app, then TAP somewhere in the middle of the screen, the menu opens up below, and you can click on play... *Then the kindle app will actually highlight on your eBook what is being narrated via audible narration! Very Cool! (it even turns the pages for you!) This is great fun, and I really wish the paperwhite-kindle did this as well, as it more comfortable/pleasant to read on the paperwhite screen... But if you purchase a matt screen protector for your fire-tablet, it very much improves the reading experience, because it reduces screen glare and reflections (so you don't have to have the back-lighting up so bright, which causes eye-fatigue)

I also shared your link with my IRL book club in case the content is helpful to any of the other ladies.
@@robbien.3964 Awesome!! I'm glad it was a help for you. And thanks for sharing! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks so much! I hope you find some good reads during the promotion!!
Hey love your channel and you are almost at 1000 subscribers! Wooo just subscribed! keep making great content! What is your fav non-fiction book?
Hi, thank you. I thought it was just me. I can not find any of the books with the headphone icon, I have the filters on, too.
Thanks!
This doesn't seem to be an option for Canadian subscriptions.... sad....
I’m sorry. It works in Australia and the US. I don’t know about any other countries.
Thank you! So if i have a book on kindle, how to convert it to Kindle Unlimited and also publish it on Audible?
@@TheReadingandWritingLife Thank you for explaining -- I am talking from the Author perspective if i have ebook i should be able to publish on Kindle, KU and Audible -- I am just looking for how to do or if someone has already done so
Thank you so much 😊😊😊
You are so welcome!
Is the narration function discontinued? I downloaded reminders of him, and could not see the narration download as shown on your screen. 😢
I think the books available for download change periodically and since I did this over a year ago, it might not be available on audio anymore. Sorry! It does still work though because I just listened to a KU with audible narration the other day.
Is this only for kindle unlimited books? Doesn’t seem to be available for purchased books, even ones also available on audible.
Yes, only kindle unlimited books. To get the audio for owned books, you have to purchase the audio (usually at a reduced price).
Thank youuuuu!!!
You're welcome! I hope it helps you in the future!
Is audible narration free to use with kindle unlimited ? I had an audible account, but I don’t want to start it back up again and pay for both kindle and audible. Thank you
yes, it's free. The audible narration actually plays through your kindle, so there is no need to do anything with audible.
@@TheReadingandWritingLife I’ve found out how it works now. Thank you. I don’t think a lot of people know about this. It’s taken me weeks to verify it. Thanks again👍
PS I loveeeeee audiobooks too!
I do too! ❤️😁
So I did everything correctly but the "Tap to Download" option isn't popping up.
Are you sure the book is available on audible? And it has to be on a device that can play audiobooks. So, a "regular" kindle with no speakers can't do it. I'm sorry you're having issues. Let me know if I can help.
i don't know if there was an update and doesn't have this option or is just an USA update that have this option :(
as an international readear im sad haha
I'm so sorry. Someone else mentioned that it might not work anymore, but it's still working for me (in the US). I am hoping we'll have others from other countries let us know there experience. I'm sorry!!
Do you know if this works for Canadians? I am having issues with it working for me :( I tired the link you posted in a comment but it doesn’t take me to my Canadian account, only my Us account which isn’t active and isn’t synced with my KU
I'm sorry I don't have a straight answer for this. I found this conversation on reddit where someone is asking the same question you have and someone answers them about amazon imprints, but doesn't provide any concrete answers, so I'm not sure how to find this info for you. Yes I have seen the redit post as well! Thank you for looking into it though! I appreciate it!
I'm sorry.
@@TheReadingandWritingLife No worries! Thank you for your reply!
I don’t always want to browse. How can I search for a particular title?
You just search it out like normal and it will give you the Kindle Unlimited option with the headphones on top if it is part of the KU with Audible Narration group.
I'm not a book leader but on my first book that I bought which was last week I was like I'm not reading this book no way and it's not audible so I said hey Google open the kindle app hey Google read aloud and it just started reading the book to me
I know that a lot of people use this feature. I'm pretty sure if you have an alexa device it will also read ebooks to you from your kindle app.
How do I download to iphone; or to paperwhite a kindle unlimited audio??
I don't know how it works with a paperwhite, but on my iphone, it's just the regular kindle app that you can get from the app store. If the books is available through kindle unlimited audio, then the option will be there to listen as well as read from the kindle app.
@@TheReadingandWritingLife Thanks so much!
So can I do this on an Kindle tablet?

What device are you using? People with kindles have been having this issue.
Genius!
Thanks! I hope it works for you.
I can click on kindle unlimited eligible, but I do not see an option for ebooks with audible narration. Any helpful hints with this?
The search system for this isn't the best because for some reason, it doesn't always show when a book has audible narration. I would recommend searching in Kindle Unlimited first, and then if you see a book that looks like you want to read it, then click on the book and it will say if it has audible narration or not. I'm going to be making an updated version of this video soon since there are still so many questions and issues about this. I'm sorry you're having problems with it. It's just not set up to be super user friendly, unfortunately.
Any idea why my audible app doesn't have that feature?
you can't go through the audible app, it has to be done either on the amazon page (probably not the amazon app either), or from the kindle. Once you've added the title to your kindle unlimited, then you can access it from the kindle app (or possibly the audible app, but I don't think I've ever done it that way).
@@TheReadingandWritingLife thank you

I agree. It is really hard to find an easy way to search for them.
This doesn’t seem to work in Canada 😢😢😢😢😢😢
I'm so sorry. Someone else asked me about it working in other countries and I couldn't find a definitive article or information about that.
What's the point on audible now?
Audible still has way more books than with KU, but this is just a little extra for Kindle Unlimited users.
did they take away this feature? i’m not able to listen on kindle unlimited :(
I'm not sure.
Im sorry you’re having a problem. It will only show up on the ones that have audible available, and one of the worst things is that if they are on audible, you have to be in the right search menu for them to appear. Amazon really needs to fix their browse feature for this.
Does this still work?
Yes. I did an updated video linked at the end, but it still works.
I have followed your directions but when I go to download it only says read for free but there is a little headphone
Can you tell me the name of the book and I can try to see what the problem is?
lf You Tell....I also tried Regretting You. In your video when you had the option of read and listen for free...I only had read for free.
@@iiloveyouamanda I couldn't really find a definitive answer about paperwhite, but I found the help page on Audible that explains how to switch between listening and reading and hopefully it'll work for you. www.amazon.com/hz/audible/narrationhelp/
