To me, this song is Burr's defining moment. It explains so clearly the differences between Burr and Hamilton and why they could never really resolve their issues. Hamilton has nothing to lose - he's already lost everything important to him and all he has left is the legacy he leaves. Burr is his parents legacy, and because of that he feels an obligation to uphold their name. He has a fear of failure that holds him back and resent his contemporary.
You know what would be an interesting dynamic that I hadn't thought of before? A Phillip that tries to uphold his fathers legacy the same way Burr does. I know he did challenge a dude to a duel for his fathers honor, but imagine if he took a more Burr approach knowing that anything he did would be a mark on his fathers reputation
I know Satisfied is most people’s favorite and it’s truly stunning but to me, it’s this song that’s really the pinnacle of the musical. It’s so easy to connect to, it’s a beautiful solo number that pulls the curtain back on our antagonist and what he’s really feeling, and then of course Leslie’s voice and acting is just impossible to look away from. It’s my top song and it always has been.
To me the theme of this song is universal. “Death doesn't discriminate Between the sinners and the saints It takes and it takes and it takes And we keep living anyway. We rise and we fall and we break And we make our mistakes.” I mean, really. A monumental song, perfectly performed. Doesn’t get better for me.
“I am not standing still, I am lying in wait” Love that line, and it says so much about how Burr thinks of himself as opposed to how others see him. Really love the (lack of) choreography in this piece as well - it’d be really tempting to have the company jump up and start moving around when the music kicks in, but I love that they all stay there, just watching
I noticed that stillness the first time I saw it on Disney+. Then the room where it happens is the complete opposite. His movements are huge and almost ridiculous at times but in a great way.
I like how you said that the company is just watching, because that's essentially how Aaron Burr feels at this point in time going forward. That history already has it's eyes on them and he's feeling the weight of inadequacy next to Hamilton but knows that there's more for him, so he must wait.
What I love most about that section of the song is that he seems to be trying to talk himself into it--this is what he wants to believe about himself but at the same time he knows that if he really believed that about himself he would take more chances and step out more boldly. Superb!!!
I agree with you MDP about his stillness at the beginning of the song. But his stillness is not just deadpan, it more like Olympic sprinters in the blocks waiting for the Starters pistol. They emit an energy even while they are still. We are holding our breath with anticipation of what is to come.
His performance is incredible all the way through and this song is really genius. I do love Leslie Odom Jr's subtle acting, and so appreciate being able to see it up close because it adds so much subtext. One of my favorite moments acting wise is after the line "I am inimitable. I am an original." He closes his eyes and nods to himself. It's a mantra that he is reaffirming. He needs to because he is doubting himself so deeply, but this was how he was taught to rise, and it has to be right, right? I'm definitely a Burr more often than a Hamilton, so I really relate.
I like the line "I am not standing still I am lying in wait." He is really trying hard to turn inaction into action. But yes, I would say most of us are more often Burr - good things come to those who wait - than a Hamilton who will "rise above my station".
Yes! The passion and conviction he delivers with these lines is palpable. It literally makes me tear up when I see it because I too hesitate a lot in life…an approach that isn’t glorified like the go-getters. But there is a time and place for everything…
The first time he shouts wait for it I am the one thing in life I can control....his face shows so much pent up rage and repressed anger. Ugh it’s amazing
Fabulous breakdown! Lin’s perfect writing & Leslie’s perfect delivery. The switching from Love doesn’t discriminate to Death doesn’t discriminate to Life doesn’t discriminate.... very powerful.
The way he stops right at before the end of the song before the quiet “wait for it” lines to me really shows how hesitant he is every time I here it I’m expecting a big finish yet he still holds back exactly like he’s explaining though the song. To me it’s another reason why i find Hamilton to be absolute genius as I know nothing about music or musical theatre.
i’ve had days where i just skip back on disney+ and watch Wait For It 4 or 5 times in a row. and i cry every time. It’s such an amazing and powerful performance.
I've been OBSESSED with Hamilton since the movie came out. Having been unable to see the production live, this film has at least given me a glimpse as to why this musical has achieved the reputation that it has and why it is completely justified. I think I've played the soundtrack to Hamilton at least a couple of times a week every week since the middle of this year and I just can't get enough of it or the performances of this remarkable cast. I mean, how do you pick a stand out cast member in this cast line up where everyone, including the ensemble, is just remarkable?
That is definitely me when I first started out listening to it! Tbh, I was avoiding Hamilton bc I had my doubts but I am now definitely a true Hamilfan!! Welcome to the family.

I would love to see you do “Non-stop”. That’s another one that really showcases how alike and different Burr and Hamilton are and there’s just so many amazing details to pick apart in that number the stuff with Angelica and Eliza and their interactions with Hamilton are so great!
The moment when he's still I really love. You can see the subtle little changes in his face that reflect, like you pointed out, where the song sits with him emotionally. There's a lot being said in that subtle ways his expression changes and it just adds so much more to his performance.
the part where he sings about hamilton and everyone looks at hamilton except him is my favourite part of this song. it’s like he can’t face the reality that someone who is the exact same as him is doing better because he’s too scared to himself.
I love those little touches. My favorite one is how at the end when he sings “Hamilton is the one who died, but I’m the one who payed for it” Hamilton in the background is slowly walking away and up the stairs and stops, steps back down a step and turns to stare at Burr, like “uhm.. excuse me, wtf did you just say?” Lol It’s so good. Lin really is a genius and there is so much to appreciate in rewatches.
This song makes me cry every single time because of the unbelievable acting skills of Leslie. I absolutely love that he starts out very rigid and controlled, then by the first chorus he loses his control a TINY bit - which he tries to correct by closing his eyes and shaking his head just slightly - and then by the end truly comes to life and lets go. I’ve made my fam watch this song so many times and they never seem as awe struck as me. Knowing that there are other Hamilton freaks out there makes me feel way better. 🙃
I've been playing this song on loop for the last so many months...it has touched me the most about Leslie and Burr. I think we tend to be more Burr than Hamilton in our day to day lives. Leslie's pain n helplessness is so apparent and he's so intense in this! Thanks for the review...it made my day :)
When I first heard Wait For It , I cried uncontrollably, for about 45 minutes. I saw Leslie perform it live at his concert, it was incredible. I get to see Hamilton live for the first time in November, finally.
I take a slightly different interpretation on this. In some ways yeah he does wait for it and that is part of what he's doing but I mean he approached Washington first. So for me this song feels so much like a every time I try to do what Hamilton does I get knocked on my ass and every time he does it he wins. So yeah I am going to hold back I am going to wait for it and I am going to watch from my moment. Because Hamilton seems to be able to win no matter what he does no matter who he pisses off no matter what happens and I just can't do that I'm not that person so I'm going to play a different game. I think it is good to remember that within this character you also have the historic reality that this man becomes the vice president. Hamilton cannot actually achieve the same political heights that Burr accomplishes in his life. But where I connect to this song is in this idea that every time I try to put myself out there the way other people do I don't get the same results. I'm not that person I'm just not Hamilton. I'm done pretending that I have to be to get what I want so I'm going to wait for it and I'm going to get it in my own time, in my own way. Let's not forget he gets the girl and he has beautiful children and he gets to live a fairly amazing life by all standards. He just learns he has to do it in his own way and I feel like for me when he gets to the climax of the song he's coming to this realization that I don't have to be Hamilton to get what I want in my life and I'm tired of trying.
Thank you! This hit me, and I found myself nodding a lot whilst reading - sometimes you look at what other people get away with, wondering why in the world they would, and then you think you wanr to give it a try, fail misserably and wonder WHY?! Finding out who I really am and what I want and what I am willing to do to get it, is probably the hardest thing I had to learn and I am still at it *sigh* It seems so much easier to just look at others and think that THIS is whar I want, THAT is how I want to be...
I agree with the overall point you are making here, however the political heights that Burr achieves fall flat of what Hamilton was able to achieve, because the office of the Vice President, especially under Jefferson would not yield the same political power, as Hamilton was able to amass as Secretary of the Treasury under Washington - in two presidential terms that Washington served, Hamilton was able to shape the future of America as much as, if not more than most presidents, while at the same time he started from a much humbler beginning than Burr and was an immigrant as well. So while both people were outstanding and very complex, I recognize that Hamilton was more successful than Burr in many areas. However politically Burr was more akin to the now established political behavior than Hamilton, and in the present day the more accomplished would be Burr, rather than Hamilton.
@@mr.tutelloni It depends on how you define success. Hamilton did achieve more politically, but his legacy will forever be tainted by the Reynolds pamphlet. Hamilton's lack of wisdom and impetuousness when it came to his decisions cost him a great deal. For some people it's worth it; for others, it's not.
@@misspriss2482 I do agree, the legacy of Hamilton is not spotless. And then again, Burr tainted his own reputation in the duel with Hamilton also. So it is a very controversial subject.
Rewatched Hamilton last night and to be honest, the first time this number didnt hit me as much as The Room Where it Happens, but man, now seeing your comments on it, made me understand a lot more about the theatrical part of it, so thank you so very much. Hamilton and your channel are making a big fan of music theater on me, and I'm really thankful for it
My favorite description of this song was a friend who said “Hamilton is a shark, constantly moving forward, never resting and always ready to take a bite out of anything. Burr is one of those hermit crabs who eats whatever trickles down to the bottom or waits for something interesting to come close to his shell. While Hamilton is constantly exploring new reefs and chomping on anything new, Burr is hiding in his shell wondering why no one will notice him and offer him the things he wants. There’s a whole ocean out there and they both started on the same reef, but only one of them was a natural born hunter.” I’ve never heard such perfect comparisons for them and she’s right… Burr just moves from shell to shell, and yeah.. he makes some progress but he’s always going to be a hermit crab, he will always be helpless without his shell. Being a shark isn’t perfect either though because sometimes they bite off more than they can chew, or eat something they weren’t supposed to and Hamilton definitely let his appetite be his downfall. Both of them, victims of their own nature. The relentless hunter who would literally die if he stopped moving and the smart little crab who thought that things would just work out if he waited long enough and he spent his whole life chasing the bigger shell.
Especially after all that power he put into the lines before it, all the emotion comes drifting right back inside. It's like his frustration collapsed in on itself.
"I am the one thing in life I can control" on of my favourite lines in the musical im not a a ambiguous as burr of course but a lot of pigheaded stubbornness got me through the pandemic I graduated college in some of the worst parts of with little job prospects.
This reminds me of In the Air Tonight. Phill Collins performance is very understated, it uses momentary silence to create anticipation and then it has that huge change up.
I am an actor and did a few musicals and all I remember from coachings and working with the directors was the importance of Less is more sometimes. and also to having space or leaving room in the song to raise stakes. You made really strong points on this. I strongly agree
Love this song and LOJ is pure 🔥 in every way! The way he sings and phrases the "rise" and "fall" in this version gives me chills every single time 👏 He is world class and the lyrics are just genius! I've had this song stuck in my head for weeks along with Satisfied, Burn and Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Our Story. Just love this musical so much. I'm so happy they did the film version on Disney+ with this cast too as I was desperate to see it on Broadway but alas I'm in the UK so to get a chance to see this version and close up with the characters facial expressions and the choreography is just amazing. They all do such a phenomenal job it is hard to choose a favourite. I've kept Disney+ purely to watch Hamilton over and over 🙈 they need to release it onto DVD and BluRay 🤞🤞🤞 Another great and insightful reaction video! Thank you :-) x
Episode 2 of Song Exploder on Netflix is Lin Manuel Miranda, the show’s musical director, and show director talking about this song and how it came about. It is incredibly interesting and I highly recommend.
There was a PBS documentary that came out a while ago about the making of Hamilton and a general brush-up of historical context (someone uploaded it to RUclips, if you type in "PBS Great Performances: Hamilton's America" it should be the first result) and I would go so far as to say it should be required viewing for anyone who wants to watch Hamilton and understand, not only the history behind the musical, but also the meaning behind the phenomenal storytelling and character narratives that are going on all throughout the show. One of my favorite parts of the documentary is when Lin is talking about his intention behind writing "Wait for It", and I'll simply quote him, because it's so beautifully said: "If Hamilton's response to loss is to go as fast as he can, Burr's response to loss is, "I'm not gonna do anything until I know it's the right move. I'm alive, other people I love are dead; there's a reason for that.""
I can’t say enough how much I love this song, it encompasses everything we go through in life as well as how we feel about ourselves, “death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints, it takes and it takes and it takes,” means more now since the death of my brother in May, he was very much a Christian man who loved the Lord and his family.
The most genius part of the while song is if you notice. The entire song all Burr does is tilt and move his head while standing completely still never moving. This perfectly represents Burr's actions throughout the entire production up until the last third of the second act. All he does is allow things to happen to him, never fighting to achieve anything, never attempting anything more ambitious then joining the revoultion and in turn the US government. Even when Hamilton stole opportunities from right below Burr's grasp all he did was let it happen. That is until the room where it happens where he finally realizes he will be forgotten if he does not do something. This is perfectly represented and forshadowed in wait for it. Burr only begins moving right at the very end the words "life doesnt discriminate" cause him to finally move for once, but not only does he move he begins rushing up and down the stage violently waving his arms representing his partial realization that he has to do something or Hamilton will take all of Burrs possible opertiunities from him. It also foreshadows the things such as the election of 1800 in which Burr begins to win over public opinion in an attempt to achieve presidency
this is my absolute favorite from Hamilton. there is so much nuance in Leslie's performance here, even the way he seems like he is literally holding his breath after he sings each verse like he is waiting for validation; it's just brilliant! I've loved Leslie since the show SMASH and I, like you, am proud of every choice he's made for his career. he is simply an amazing talent.
Hamilton is such a great show, wait for it being one of the best songs in my opinion. Also a fun song to sing when u are home alone. I am so happy u reacted to this song
Thank you for doing this performance! Leslie Odom Jr. is such a phenomenal performer, starting with his ability to truly understand the soul of his character. You can feel this character in him, through him. Brilliant
After I watched the hamil-film I was obsessed with this song and Leslie’s performance . I’ve watched it and listened to it 1000 times and no chance of stopping
This is my favorite song from Hamilton and Leslie Odom Jr is second to none. Thanks for reviewing this one!! I was wondering if you cut the songs for copyright purposes or for time? Just curious, I've noticed it in some other videos, too.
this actually is my personal favorite song in all of Hamilton, the fact that it's Burr reflecting on everything he went through up to now and comparing it to Hamilton and questioning how Hamilton is succeeding while he himself is not is awesome and I feel a lot of people can relate to that in someway.
*screams* It's my favorite Hamilton song!! Yay! I feel this song just so deep in my core, Burr is just so complete to me; I feel every aspect of him and his motivations and thought processes.
I still think this is one of my favorites of the musical (besides Burn) and Leslie has such amazing control of his face. Everyone was amazing but Leslie is just outstanding. The emotion he portrays and the changes from love to death and life.
This song means so much to me and the one I have wanted to hear your take and once again you did not disappoint! Your ending discussion gave me chills because of how spot on it was just as the performance was. Thank you!
I'm a massive hip hop fan but I've seen Hamilton live I London. Loved every second and I still cant stop listening to the soundtrack. Thanks for explaining a lot of what I didn't understand regarding the technical ability of the actors. Brilliant reactions to all the Hamiltons songs. You have a new sub!
What I just really love about this is at the very end he is waiting for something more to happen but the song is over and he drops his hands in defeat because there is nothing to wait for anymore. He waits for something that never comes.
Thank you so much for Hamilton and the analysis! I always love to hear your thoughts on why the actors or people behind the scenes did something. I absolutely enjoyed this video!! guess you could say I was... SATISFIED... 😉
Just discovered you. I love your deep insights. There is an authority mixed with a humility in your words. I’m a fan of Hamilton and my appreciation of it has deepened after watching just two of your videos: satisfied and Wait For It. Thanks.
This is by far one of my top 3 favorites in Hamilton and I love the one line that for me encapsulates Burr's approach to life. "I'm not standing still, I'm lying in wait!" But this song is one of the most powerful songs in the entire musical and he preforms it Masterfully!
Great review. If you haven’t seen it, this song is featured on Song Exploder on Netflix. It goes into depth about writing it and has lots of great info on the choices Lin-Manuel Miranda made about the character and music.
Thank you for all your videos! My wife and i love watching them together! Please keep it up! This is a powerful song because it starts with his girl since that’s the catalyst from the previous number. But then it opens up to his ethos as a character. But its still subdue because we are learning about him. Things get more exciting when he talks about Hamilton because Hamilton is challenging his logic in life. You brought it up. When he is just standing there and yelling to him self, its like he’s fighting within himself saying his inaction is still the best course. But that quiet moment is so powerful because that’s his doubts. It represents his rock bottom. Then after that quiet moment is his conclusion, how he’s going to see how Hamilton’s life turns out. Then he starts dancing and finishing the song in a powerful number. It’s a masterclass in song writing. You get his ethos, his conflict and his conclusion / synthesis. Amazing breakdown video! Keep them coming!!!!!!!!
The look on his face in the opening number after he says "I'm the damned fool who shot him" gave me goosebumps. Still does, and it was what sucked me in. He's an amazing actor.
Watching your analyzation of each Hamilton number -Leslie Odom Jr's in particular - adds an extra layer of enjoyment for me. You voice what I think and feel about his skill and his choices. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My favorite song without a doubt. And whilst I’ve watched your videos before and liked your analysis of them, this one made me subscribe because you said precisely what I think/feel when watch this.
I hadn’t seen this number before. And just. His stillness at the start. This is a stage production and movement often seems a little broader and a little more when acting on a stage to get it out to the back row, but this. He literally could not be moving less without being silent at the start. And it works so well because through the song’s progression that stillness goes from passive to a surface cover barely holding back the electrical surge of ambition, the way that frustration and anger starts popping out and then goes back under the surface to stillness. For seeming so static in motion, that stillness is unbelievably dynamic. Brilliant. I’m going to have to find and watch this production soon, I think.
i never had a favorite song when i first started getting into hamilton (back in like 2017), but when the movie came out and i could finally actually watch it (i could never afford to actually go see it), it was a game changer. i could genuinely feel all the emotions and the character i felt myself most resonate with was burr. and since then wait for it has and will probably always be my favorite song, along with non stop.
That was an amazing instruction (and explanation) of the performance AND a great life lesson as well! It could be that I liked it so much because I’m Leslie’s biggest fan 😂 but your teaching approach is top notch!
It took me a while to get the last part, I’ve been listening to the Hamilton soundtrack since 2016 but only this year did i understand that at the end he was saying “wait for it” like there’s something coming up or something’s about to happen but nothing does and the song ends. I mean really it’s not that special but just the way the lyrics were made instead of “i’m willing to wait for it” lmm made it “i’m willing to...” “wait for it” i remember the time i realized it i panicked because i got chills from how amazingly that line was crafted and used.

My favorite one is how at the end when he sings “Hamilton is the one who died, but I’m the one who payed for it” Hamilton in the background is slowly walking away and up the stairs and stops, steps back down a step and turns to stare at Burr, like “uhm.. excuse me, wtf did you just say?” Lol
It’s so good.
Total freak!!✋🏾
Can’t wait for you to react to “Room where it happened”!
Like most legendary protagonists/antagonists, Ham and Burr mirror each other in so many ways. Thank you for a wonderful commentary.
I've been playing this song on loop for the last so many months...it has touched me the most about Leslie and Burr. I think we tend to be more Burr than Hamilton in our day to day lives. Leslie's pain n helplessness is so apparent and he's so intense in this! Thanks for the review...it made my day :)
This song gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. It hits so close to home and Leslie Odom Jr’s performance just enhances this.
Finding out who I really am and what I want and what I am willing to do to get it, is probably the hardest thing I had to learn and I am still at it *sigh*
It seems so much easier to just look at others and think that THIS is whar I want, THAT is how I want to be...
❤️
This song gives me shivers every time. My favorite in the whole show!
I just loveeee this man. Leslie is a star.
Rewatched Hamilton last night and to be honest, the first time this number didnt hit me as much as The Room Where it Happens, but man, now seeing your comments on it, made me understand a lot more about the theatrical part of it, so thank you so very much. Hamilton and your channel are making a big fan of music theater on me, and I'm really thankful for it
Let's be honest, Aaron Burr is the star of this show not Hamilton
Factual
actually I disagree. The entire musical is actually about Eliza. Which is why its called "hamilton" not "Alexander hamilton "
I have a feeling you would like Pretty Much It's video on Hamilton
I thought the main character is 'Murica
@@KSan357 I LOVED IT
You are definitely the most insightful and eloquent of the Hamilton reactors. Looking forward to more!
I’ve been waiting for this one, no pun intended! This is my favorite song from the show. Thanks for doing it!
There’s a whole ocean out there and they both started on the same reef, but only one of them was a natural born hunter.”
I’ve never heard such perfect comparisons for them and she’s right… Burr just moves from shell to shell, and yeah.. he makes some progress but he’s always going to be a hermit crab, he will always be helpless without his shell.
When the song flips and the key changes, the song has a real Michael Jackson feel to it!
I was really blown by how Leslie's eyes are also acting out which gives it more of genuine feel. His eyes did the acting really.
No comment on the line, “what is it like in his shoes”? That is such a pivotal line to me.
Especially after all that power he put into the lines before it, all the emotion comes drifting right back inside. It's like his frustration collapsed in on itself.
I have been WAITING FOR this reaction! I love this so much, thank you. Your joy in reacting to musical numbers makes them even more special.
Aww, thanks so much Sarah
He sings with almost every character and his voice
blends so well! And I mean with everyone he’s talented!!!!
This is the song I replay the most from Disney+ version. Such an amazing performance.
That restrained, careful manner that Odem Jr sings with matches Burr's personality perfectly as well, and it's perfect. Love this song.
Ooh, going to watch.
I just made the same comment! I'm glad to see yours!
Yes!! 100%. Such a great episode
I just watched it because of this comment and its a brilliant episode
I find him such a mesmerizing physical presence, as well. Just amazing.
I love the ending and how it's this soft note versus a note that is held or belted. And Leslie's controlled performance is so perfect.
Also, Burr says he's waiting, and Hamilton tells others to wait for him to do amazing things.
It’s so weird (but pretty cool) to see Hamilton making a comeback!! I’m so happy to have more content☺️
Always look forward to your videos!!
Appreciate you sharing your story Bethany. This song might be making a comeback on the channel this week ps 😂
@@MarcDanielPatrick thank you for your response!! Love your channel!
YES!!! I've been waiting for this.... now I just need: Satisfied, Helpless and One Last Time. Please and thank you!
Soo basically the whole show? 😂
@@MarcDanielPatrick ... well, I certainly wouldn't complain about that. 🙃😅
@@MarcDanielPatrick yes please!!! The whole show!!!
this is my absolute favorite from Hamilton. there is so much nuance in Leslie's performance here, even the way he seems like he is literally holding his breath after he sings each verse like he is waiting for validation; it's just brilliant!
Brilliant
My favorite number by far this and non-stop
I've been watching all your hamilton videos and was looking forward to this one so much I couldn't "wait for it" lol, thanks for another great video!
The episode of Song Exploder on Netflix about “Wait for it” is incredible
this actually is my personal favorite song in all of Hamilton, the fact that it's Burr reflecting on everything he went through up to now and comparing it to Hamilton and questioning how Hamilton is succeeding while he himself is not is awesome and I feel a lot of people can relate to that in someway.
The first time I saw this I found I was crying at the end of the song and I didn’t even realise, that’s how hard it hits
Leslie is a genius on stage, like in every single one of his songs you can feel te emotios. And his voice is just mind blowing.
This song and performance is beyond brilliant. Lyrically, performace, and music. Just amazing!!!
His voice is stellar and this song is beautiful.
I have just discovered by conversations about Hamilton. Thank you so much!!! I love this show.
This is my favorite song of the show. His performance is stunning. I am a fan of his now. Such a beautiful voice.
This song means so much to me and the one I have wanted to hear your take and once again you did not disappoint! Your ending discussion gave me chills because of how spot on it was just as the performance was. Thank you!
So sweet of you, thanks.
Lin, Alex and Tommy explained how Wait For It was made in an episode of Song Exploder in Netflix! It's so good! Highly recommend it!
I was
Waiting for this....I will let myself out
In the key change bit where the song takes off, his voice almost has elements of Michael Jackson with the raw parts
My favorite song from the show!!!
Just discovered you. I love your deep insights. There is an authority mixed with a humility in your words. I’m a fan of Hamilton and my appreciation of it has deepened after watching just two of your videos: satisfied and Wait For It. Thanks.
This was so fantastic! Thank you, thank you! I think your channel should be mandatory viewing for anyone preparing audition songs. Mandatory.
I love this video and your whole perception of this song, and the play itself!
This is by far one of my top 3 favorites in Hamilton and I love the one line that for me encapsulates Burr's approach to life. "I'm not standing still, I'm lying in wait!"
But this song is one of the most powerful songs in the entire musical and he preforms it Masterfully!
Great review. If you haven’t seen it, this song is featured on Song Exploder on Netflix. It goes into depth about writing it and has lots of great info on the choices Lin-Manuel Miranda made about the character and music.
It's beautiful the reflection you make in the end. I think i definitly relate to Burr and this song. Is so much like me😌😥
Thank you for all your videos!
I'm SO happy!!! I was hoping you'd do this song!!!
One of my favorite songs ever! He performs it beautifully!
A fantastic breakdown. I really appreciated it.
Watching your analyzation of each Hamilton number -Leslie Odom Jr's in particular - adds an extra layer of enjoyment for me. You voice what I think and feel about his skill and his choices. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
appreciate it. thanks so much
Wait For It is seriously my favorite song of the whole show!!!
I love how you explained everything ❤️ It’s like you took the words about my mouth.
i never had a favorite song when i first started getting into hamilton (back in like 2017), but when the movie came out and i could finally actually watch it (i could never afford to actually go see it), it was a game changer. i could genuinely feel all the emotions and the character i felt myself most resonate with was burr. and since then wait for it has and will probably always be my favorite song, along with non stop.
That was an amazing instruction (and explanation) of the performance AND a great life lesson as well! It could be that I liked it so much because I’m Leslie’s biggest fan 😂 but your teaching approach is top notch!
Okayyyy time to watch Hamilton again lol i really love Leslie's portrayal of Burr
My Favorit Lines, "I am inimitable, I am an original. I'm not falling behind or running late. I'm not standing still, I am lying in wait"
