    PPQ is an underrated platform

I shot my neighbors PPQ45 back in 2017. Two mags of ammo through it and knew I had to buy one.
I was more more accurate with the Q45 then I was with my P227 EDC.

Honestly, this gun is as accurate as anything else I've shot. It's incredible. I need to shoot my Sig P245 again--that's always been my most accurate .45... but... this thing may have eclipsed it. Thanks for the comment!

I wanted a 45acp for a while my father had a 1911 and i had no problems hittinng targets with it and having 2 other walthers that have never given me trouble plus 12 rounds of 45acp was great it came as a tactical model threaded baŕrel i own a rugged obsidian 45 that configures to everything down from that and of course the 45 round is naturally sub sonic and though its still loud it drops the decibles quite a bit i pull it out once a monrh and I've noticed i am having much better control of my 9mms the can is heavy in long configuration but the weight of the can drastically relieves the flip very happy.

Nice! .45 is a great caliber... and the PPQ is a great gun to shoot it through. Mine was insanely accurate. It's one gun I definitely miss. Thanks!

I bought one (SD model for the longest barrel) back in Feb 2020, and while I haven't shot it as much as I'd like to have, I have about 1,000rnds through it, and like it a lot. I'm 59 and while I've shot a bunch of friends guns over the years, this is the first one I purchased. Everything about it just feels like quality. I don't like Glocks because they feel cheap and gritty, even when just racking the slide. The PPQ slide feels like it rides on ball bearings. While I haven't run a ton of different ammo through it, I've run Federal HST hollowpoints and I've never had any kind of malfunction. The grip texture could be better (like the PDP) and the slide serrations too (like the PDP) but overall I love it. Since my eyesight is bad I can't see the front sight clearly anymore so I put a SRO (red dot) on it and have a Streamlight TLR-8 light/green laser on it so I could tell the difference between the SRO and TLR dots. Works really well. What I DON'T like about it has nothing to do with the gun. It has to do with the fact that even Walther does NOT support the gun. I can't find a level 2/3 holseter for it, AT ALL, or a tungsten guide rod assy for it, or a flared magwell and extended mags, etc. So, since I originally BOUGHT it as a range/fun gun AND an EDC gun, but now the EDC pert is impossible, I just picked up a new PDP full size Pro SD, and while due to a local ammo shortage put only 50 rounds thru it, REALLY like it. The trigger is even better than the already really good PPQ trigger, LOVE the grip texture, and LOVE the slide serrations. So, I plan on putting a Trijicon RCR (when I can find one) and another light/green laser combo on it. I just wish they made the PDP on .45 too.....or maybe 10mm... Can't wait to put more rounds thru it when I get the RCR.

Man, you're making me miss this gun. I recently picked up an HK USP .45... it's not even close. The PPQ .45 is like a magic wand compared to the HK. It's still one of most shootable guns I've ever owned. I miss it. I'm just not comfortable with the trigger for carry. I often consider grabbing another one... just as shooter. Or made I can find some way to rig a safety. Sigh. It's like an existential dilemma. Haha. Thanks for the comment!

@@HipsterTactical Normally people want a trigger with less poundage for the pull, but you might be able to put a stiffer spring in the .45 so you feel more comfortable. I haven't pulled it apart but I assume it's a simple closed&ground (how the ends are made) compression spring. And as Massad says, it's easier to legally justify a stiffer trigger in the case of a self-defense shooting trial vs a LESS stiff "hair trigger". If someone doesn't make a kit, if you're reasonable mechanical, you can probably take it apart, take some measurements of the spring, including spring rate (lbs per inch) and order some new springs from, say, Lee Spring or Associated Spring, maybe even McMaster-Carr (I do Mechanical Design for a living). Best of luck!

The "dingus" is a scurge on triggers. Non flush smooth trigger shoe is Glocks major defect. Walther and HK do far superior smooth.
    Enjoyable presentation 👍

Thanks, my friend! The dingus itself wasn't exactly a deal breaker on this guy... but the 3lb pull with no safety was. Sigh. It was a great shooter.

It looks huge in the slide. I have a GLOCK 21 and it is definitely a full size pistol but that one looks like it is even bigger! I imagine it is a very nice shooter though, that has been my experience with Walther. I have never shot a PPQ but the trigger on my PDP is very light. I have made a double tap or two when that was not my intention. Trigger discipline would be a major concern for carry for the first shot anyway. Anything worth shooting once is worth shooting twice so that don't bother me too much. lol

It's definitely scaled up from a normal PPQ/PDP/P99 footprint. But don't think it's as big as a G21 or a USP. The real magic is in the grip: it doesn't FEEL much bigger than a 9mm PPQ. Feels amazing. Shoots amazing. If they ever offer a .45 with a decocker or a safety... I'll buy one again. Thanks for the comment!

I have a question about being a tactical hipster. What guns make an ordinary gun owner a tactical hipster? And how many guns does one need before they can be recognized in the community as a tactical hipster?

    • @HipsterTactical

Man... you ask the tough questions. I was ready for the "what's the meaning of life?" but, damn. I feel like it's more of an attitude--it's when you derive some sense of self from the firearms you're passionate about. To gun hipsters, guns are more than just tools. More than just objects. They're an extension of your personality and personal equity. Especially when build you skill and confidence with the guns you love. I hope that answer suffices :)
